The last question you ever ask a victim is why didn't they leave. Do you know how convinced they've become that they deserve that treatment or that they did aomwthing to cause it? That shame keeps them silent so often. I'm so glad this man did get free and that he is safe now and either knows his own worth or is continuing to learn that as he heals.

If you've never experienced abuse first hand, know someone that has experienced it or let alone seen a documentary about the 'abuser process' you could be forgiven about being confused and ignorant about the subject because on face-value it just seems preposterous why someone wouldn't leave an abuser that is doing mental and/or physical harm.

Just finished the video and they went as far as to ask how he feels about her. I don’t think they really thought about the fact they’re talking to someone who has trauma. This maybe in a private conversation could be supportive but on live television. I’d rather hear about how well he’s doing now coming out of all of her control.

I wouldn’t allow her to see them until they turned 18. Yeah I know it’s cruel. But that’s how I would feel. I don’t think I would have been able to move on. But if I had kids I’d probably find away. Hopefully when released she gets a warning to stay away from Alex and his family or risk going back to prison.

Honestly these abusers are monsters. They come across as charming but are slowly breaking you down. My brother was so verbally abusive to me that he convinced me that i was worthless and a loser. Guess what? I did everything to win his approval. I tried to dress like him, listened to the same music etc. My heart goes out to this man. I hope he can heal and move on.

I suggest to go get him and give him somewhere to stay while until he’s better and can get a new place. I had to run down the street and jump in my car while my ex chased me down the road. I stayed with a friend for about a week and he was messaging threats. I had to just keep asking him to leave the house I was renting. Eventually he left. I could have called the police to have him removed and I wish I had as it took about 3 months until he moved out. He never hit me but he threatened a lot and threw things towards me and would block the door so I couldn’t leave the house.

People who abuse in this way are usually very intelligent and they use specific techniques to target and manipulate people into becoming very isolated. It’s easy to say what you would and wouldn’t do in a situation however until you’ve Experienced it you don’t understand what it’s like. He doesn’t need to man up he needs to be loved and protected. Just like a woman would. Abuse has no gender it can happen to anyone who falls prey to that situation. In fact alot of the reason why male victims don’t speak up is because they are judged and made to feel like they need to ‘man up’ this is what leads to them ending their own lives eventually. Let’s be open and educated when talking about this because again u don’t know how you would react until it directly affects you or someone you care about.

As an abuse survivor, abuse is abuse. Idc what your gender is. And what this man went through was nothing short of torture. Absolutely horrific. And he endured most of what he went through for the sake of his daughter and thinking him accepting this abuse was the only way to protect his child. And that breaks my heart. I’m happy he’s able to share his story and him and his daughter are able to move forward in life away from this horrible woman. We need to take abuse of men much more seriously.

The gaslighting, narcissistic psychopathic behaviours.. you feel less and less of a man and Zero confidence. It's not easy to get out. The threats that if you do this i will destroy you.. even to this day, she believes she did nothing wrong and it was all my fault. Even after being arrested for domestic abuse by the police that she called to actually arrest me. Told me police will never believe that a big man like you will never believe that you are being abused by a small woman like me. The bruises.. you not alone mate and m glad you can talk about it now

I'm so sorry to hear this. My brother was abused by his girlfriend for a number of years. The abuse consisted of throwing crockery and glasses across the room at him, one time a set of keys that cut him right next to his eye, throwing him out the house every few weeks, verbally abusing him in front of the 2 kids and that's only what I know. He would appear at my parent's house with bruises. His neighbour heard a lot of it offered for him to sit round theirs to give him time away from the girl. Last thing that happened was their daughter saw her kicking off so he decided to leave for the kids' benefit. Should have gone for custody in my opinion. I always knew there was something wrong with the girl and we butted heads a few times when she tried to get funny with me.

Asking someone why they didn't leave is ok for me as a victim of teen dating violence. I did not stay because I felt worthless or shamed or thought I deserved the violent treatment that was done on me. My boyfriend was not able to take away my spirit or sense of worth. I stayed about 4 years because as many in abusive situations say, you've already "fallen in love" with that person, and for me, I had hoped he would eventually change. But he did not, and I left. Leave early enough to not get drawn in, and don't let someone take your lifetime. I made a good decision at any early age to stop the violence and take back my life. Recognizing signs of violence in another is the first step to not walking that path with them.

Now imagine them questioning a woman. “There wasn’t anything you did to make him* do this?” “So you were just too scared to fight him*?”We gotta get over this mindset. When you’re in a relationship like this you’re a victim. You don’t ask a survivor of a murderer “you were too scared to try to get away?” “You didn’t do anything to cause it right?” Those questions are irrelevant uncomfortable and disrespectful unless you’re the law trying to find this person what does it change that this person may have said the wrong thing or didn’t leave at the right time? A normal person wouldn’t attack their partner. Ever. Let’s start treating THEM like the problem for once.

She'd leave with the kids. From there, he doesn't have her, he's free. But wait a second... His kids are not, and I think you can guess what would happen to his kids.

Stop the BS! STOP excuses saying she may have been abused. You would not say that if the roles were reversed. She is a MONSTER and deserves no sympathy.

That makes it worse because lots of people have been abused the majority do not torture and almost kill others. Pay it forward is for good deeds. This girl chose to break him down and torture him. She must take accountability. He did nothing to her.
