This poor woman was drowning in her own blood unconcious and has had to have her body part amputated because of a cyclist! So yes! I got hit by a van last year and from that accident it has drastically changed my life as it resulted me in a concussion bad bruises, whiplash and a medial lateral knee ligament tear In my left knee. I have been getting lots of physio and medical treatment but I haven’t had any compensation yet. The van the guy was driving was a company van so he’s not liable to be convicted. The road was stationed and a single road and overtook a big double decker bus. But I’m lucky I didn’t loose any of my limbs and am still walking outside with a crutch.

I recently went to Blackpool with my toddler for a holiday and I was really shocked at how fast the cyclists go on the front I’d say at least 20/30 mph ! I could see dogs and kids running to the sea and coming so close to getting hit 😢 even at night when the lights was on and the front was packed with families they was still speeding ! It’s a massive accident waiting to happen

the fact that this has been in law for longer than the car has been around shows that awareness of this should have been ramped up years. The tricky thing with insuring bikes is it puts a big downer on the number of people who will want to get a bike and that will effect the green targets. I'd say that all E-bikes need to be insured because they are practically motor vehicles, especially when people just use the motor instead of the pedals, but the fines for colliding with someone on the pavement needs to go up and be proportional to the costs of care to the victim, and face jail time in the case of a fatality.

Cyclist knocked me over and into a busy road cycling the wrong way down a cycle route. Still in pain and lots of cctv but police just sent a three line letter saying they could not find enough information. It was hard even to report as the electronic form was more about someone hitting a cyclist and nothing about pedestrians.

Strangely inconsistent reactions in the comments. It is blamed all on 'existing laws', yet on the very few occasions when someone riding a cycle is at fault in an fatal accident, they are far more likely to get a prison sentence than a motor vehicle driver who causes a death. In this case the cyclist received a far more severe penalty than a motor vehicle driver typically does when causing this degree of injury. It's not at all clear that these injuries reach the threshold for "serious" under IDS's proposed law.

The amount of comments saying bikes have to pay Road tax, road tax doesn’t exist it’s an emission tax, hence electric cars don’t pay anything. Also saying registration plates and insurance for bikes/cyclist’s is ridiculous. Who is going to ensure a child, and are we saying they shouldn’t be allowed to cycle. And with registration, it would never be policed, the amount of stolen bikes on the road and the police don’t even investigate burglaries, think they will do anything about unregistered push bikes is laughable. Agree though that sentencing needs to be revised for dangerous cyclists.
