I fully agree that these labels are being handed out like sweets when it could actually be a symptom of something else, say trauma, the amount of people who all have major trauma and have been properly diagnosed with ADHD and Autism is no coincidence.
@debbieparnell75822 ай бұрын
That's a hatefully ignorant, deceptive, deeply irresponsible and harmful thing to say. Being diagnosed much later in life and still being expected to meet neurotypical milestones of life is inherently 'major trauma' - you're missing the mark to have noticed the connection between them and dismiss the fact they cooccur. It took me 6 months of solid personal research to even apply for the extra 4 years to get my ADHD diagnosis and having just got my autistic diagnosis a lot of that process was proving the traits that weren't just autistic crossovers, and presenting a convincing argument to my doctor which took me 6 months to sort because my ADHD was debilitating me that much. My degree was a thousand times easier to get... and I actually learnt more during my own study than you'd learn for a degree. All that and further 7+ months and counting to access medication. The assessment is too rigorous if you spoke to any one of us before making and sharing your assumptions you'd realise that - it's staggeringly arrogant to the point of being hostile to think you don't just know more about the conditions than both trained professionals and people with a lifetime of experience. We don't fight so hard to get the diagnosis so ignorant people can invalidate our identity and the mountain we've had to climb to get it recognised. You need to learn the 2 meanings of the word 'trend' the only trend is more understanding of the conditions including the fact they don't only happen in white male children. That's the polar opposite of the truth.
@ninaleach63502 ай бұрын
As a late diagnosed autistic (67) and currently awaiting confirmation of ADHD, I can honestly say that within the neurodivergent community, we struggle to get diagnosed. Diagnoses aren't handed out, the process is very rigorous and often overwhelming. I've recently also finally been diagnosed with CPTSD and can confidently attribute my trauma response to the fact that I perceive the world differently because of my neurobiology. I don't think I was misdiagnosed with depression and anxiety as they are a consequence of living with undiagnosed neurodivergence. There are many co-occuring conditions.

Not in The Amish community ..? Are you joking ? Have you ever seen interviews with people who have escaped The Amish ? Just because the Catholics had less divorces doesn’t equate to happy marriages …just people trapped . There is of course ADHD in Amish community, as well as many undiagnosed conditions , and huge numbers of people with depression stemming from restrictive lifestyles . Just because you didn’t see people with wheelchairs in 70s didn’t mean people had no disabilities or accidents, they were simply kept out of sight .
