He probably knew for years he had been dealing with a diabolical monster, yet couldn’t put his finger on it, and worse, every one else was blind to it , having some solid facts to what he deeply knew so long, most likely gave him motivation to fight to win his life back, bc at the point these assholes are ready to totally discard you, you have been so used up , and separated from everything and every one that brought you joy ... I imagine to him it was to light at the end of the tunnel... and short of this he truly wouldn’t ever be free in any real sense ... he’d been forever a victim of her stalking and intrusion into his life in every way .

Actually it's harder to ignore them than you think. When we fall in love (you know the first stage of being in love the butterflies, you're nervous etc) the part of the brain that detects red flags turns off. Doesn't mean you can't spot red flags just means its harder. So when we leave the first stage of being in love we choose to ignore it because we love them

1000%. I was 13 when my dad died very unexpectedly, and my stepdad died when I was 19 in a frwak accident. You spend a while hoping it's fake. A dream. A false reality. But to actually be told it was fake must be so traumatizing. I can't even imagining the emotional trauma it would have caused, never mind later finding out the reason why he faked it. putting all the obvious aside can't imagine having to hide for 3 days knowing that your kids, family & friends have been told your dead murdered & grieving. I truly feel for all them too, I know they would be happy he is still alive but imagine it would mess some peoples heads up as for those few days that was totally real & traumatic for them.

It would be truly heartbreaking. However I believe that his family members weren't told that he was dead (I think that the show hosts just misspoke). The way the story was told, I'm quite sure that he had only been thought of as missing by his family during this time. Yes, still an awful thing for them, but not as terrible as "knowing" that he was dead.
