Katie you always amaze me. You have come so far with your skills and abilities, you were very impressive as you chopped that wood and loaded it in the truck. You and Greg are one hard working couple. I enjoy the interaction with the animals and the look forward to following the progress on the deck. Have a great week ahead and be safe. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

My dad and I have always used yellow cedar for fence posts or anything to do with outside red Cedar which is not as many because my dad only burnt yellow cedar for firewood it always burnt the hottest and left hardly any ash in this wood stove so that's what he burnt was strictly yellow cedar and seems that he worked for logging company since he was 15 years old he got all his firewood for free and they even bucked it up a lot of times at the way past the other side of Mount Washington they would buck it up and then after work we would all go up there and load it up on their trucks and bring it home My dad and my uncle operated the first faller bunchers that came onto the island my uncles was track and my dads was tires they were the highest seniority guys in timber West and I tell you they may he made a lot of money running that machine he started driving log and truck when he was 15 years old because he lied of his age until they got the followed bunchers my dad's name was even written on a rock Bluff on the Canyon by the backside of Mount Washington because he had a trailer turnover and lean up against the Rock Bluff because the loader operator loaded him upside heavy and he was lucky he didn't go over the other way because his truck and trailer would went right down into the canyon it was written Norman on the side of the Rock Bluff My uncle Malcolm used to run the tugboat on Comox Lake until they stopped running tugboats

I recently learned something about chainsaws and falling trees I never knew about and quite frankly is pretty cool!!! Most all chainsaws have a perpendicular line to the bar on the body of the saw, between the handles...which is meant to be used when cutting your directional notch to use as a sight line guide for where you want the tree to fall! Now it's not gna make the tree fall exactly, all trees are different but it's a neat trick to help you sight in when making that notch. You learn something everyday!! 🇨🇦🇺🇲💯✌

I'm in Alabama. I have a maul and a log splitter. Don't use either. I cut logs that are small enough to fit in the heater if possible. Not always possible I understand. But those slabs are perfect for me for firewood. I see other KZbinrs just burn them in a pile as trash. I don't understand that. Are you going to do that too or use them as firewood? They are probably dry now .
@PoorMansHomesteadCanadaBC1961
@PoorMansHomesteadCanadaBC1961 Жыл бұрын
I probably cut and sold firewood for around 20 years big old growth for out of all the burn piles that log companies left and not once did I ever think of using a wedge to stop the log from pinching your power saw now how dumb is that I always thought of wedges as uses for falling a tree but now that I've watched KZbin so many times people using wedges to stop the log from pinching your saw mind you I always had an ax anyway with me or a mall but cutting firewood for so many years and being dumb picking up big great big old growth chunks of firewood rolling them into the up into the back of a truck where only three or four pieces would fill the whole back of the truck that's why I'm lying in bed on painkillers most of the time and now I don't burn firewood because the cost of firewood is way too high here and you can't get it because companies have given the woodlots to one or two people and those you get is the scraps that's left over after they sell all the good stuff so and it's cheaper to heat my house with oil heaters than it is With wood over $300 a cord 1 quarter a month you figure that out and the woman that I live with like the house at 90 degrees I'd probably could have got away with a half a quarter a month if it was seated the way I liked 65 70 Degrees

I used to haul firewood from all the way up top in the Commons Lake Bay way past Crookshank River with AS ten 4 by 4 and a trailer big old growth it was so big that I would roll it off the burn pile and it would almost knock my truck over three or four pieces would fill up the whole truck quick load all all weekend split and sell during the week always had a pile of wood in stock alongside my 37 foot bus stacked to the roof and over to the house ran a big 30 by 40 foot tarp all winter attached to the house across to the bus so the wood was always under the tarp you just backed in underneath the tarp loaded your truck and delivered the ears of cotton firewood screwed up my shoulder had to build my own splitter cost me $600 which split three foot rounds no problem ram came off AD8 cat the five horse briggs is tracking on it and it was on wheels so I could move it around with my three Wheeler or the truck sold it two years ago for $600 got my money out of it that's all I wanted very slow going splitter but no wood could stop it And get this the man that bought it got maybe at one mile away from my house he decided to tow it behind a vehicle it was never built for that because it was just spindles off a citation with tires on it on a straight heart axle wheel fell off it he had to call the tow truck to pick it up and he didn't even ask for his money back and give me the splitter back you still wanted the splitter

Girl you have to learn to read the wood before you can split wood look for the hardest part of the block of wood like a knot any other than just nice looking wood look for a defect hit it on top of the defect where it is the hardest part of the wood and it splits easier sharp axes don't split as good as dull axis sharp batches get stuck deluxe is don't And never split your log of wood while it sits on the ground where it can bounce always put it on top of another chunk of wood or on very very hard ground like a big rock
