its really sad. the guy im working with now, while he is a skilled worker, it feels like hes talking down to me no matter what i do or say, so i just dont really have the motivation to do anything that would help us work quicker. his self-proclaimed observation skills have yet to determine that im doing it on purpose, even though i do hint at it a few times a day, but its barely been a week. The foreman already knows what im capable of, as i helped him start the job. on the other hand, i did somewhat carry another journeyman who was in the business for 30+ years. I was a 1st year apprentice at the time. i was working with him so he wouldnt steal every single ladder on the less than 3000 square foot jobsite, or pull out 50 feet of drag line from the bucket. i was one of the few people that had the patience to work with him, and was one of the very few who he hadnt managed to piss off or just creep out

@@masterbond9 if you can manage to maintain half of the positive attitude that this little girl has then you will rise to the top, and that right quick. I am living proof that there is tons of cash to be made, but you have to start and maintain a heart like this child. Her positive attitude is so inspiring. As a boss, I know that her positive attitude can carry her through the most challenging projects life can throw at her. Boss's must be very careful not to accidentally break this spirit, because if you do, it can be almost impossible to rebuild.

This is very exciting, seeing a young person (boy or girl, it doesn't matter) being interested in the trades. As a teacher in both secondary and higher education, I am fully in favour in people getting educated, become practical and think critically. As a polymath, I am a DIY enthousiast, as it promotes independence and increases confidence in one's self. And the reason is my father. When me and my brothers were growing up in the 90's, it was he who exposed us to homeimprovement, DIY and practicality, by letting us assist him in tasks around the house and various jobs, after he retired from the army. Also, we used to have a small workshop in the basement of our house with various tool we learned to use on our own, including stick welding! Well done to the little one aspiring carpenter.

I have heard Richard say that when running gas or water lines it is always best to have fewer connections because the chances for a leak increases. Lately i have seen him using pre-threaded gas pipe up to six feet. Wouldn't it be better to run longer pipes like they used too even if they have to thread them or soldering copper connections instead of shark bites, I know they are trying to be faster but when it comes to gas or water piping i am sure the customer wouldn't mind paying for the extra cost of threading gas lines and/or soldering water lines, i know i wouldn't mind especially if there is kids living in the house. If anyone out there reads my comment please let me know what you think. Thanx

OMG, I cannot like this video enough!!!!! All kids need this type of education. It’s so much easier to comprehend the concept of fractions when you can actually put them to practical use. Also, it’s great to see this young lady learning her way around a shop. When I was in 8th grade (in 1982), I transferred to a public school, where I wanted to choose Shop as my elective class. The advisor said, “oh no, that’s only for boys. You must take Home Economics”. Even after I explained to him that I had just taken Home Ec the previous year at my private school, he still insisted I register for Home Ec. Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking and sewing, but I really wanted to learn about woodworking. Oh well, over the years of buying several fixer upper houses, and with help from my father and brother (and of course This Old House), I have learned so much. This channel is invaluable!

They are likely discontinued by now and replaced by something newer. These episodes are likely about 2-3 years old if they go the same as TOH being posted on here.

CO is heavier than air. A ceiling detector detects the poison gas when the room is fully filled and this is too late. Better to have a dedicated CO detector underneath the device with a flame.

You may have given me a clue to why the pressure relief valve on my coal boiler leaks. There is an expansion tank and a new feed water valve. I also have a pressure reduction valve on the house water supply. Oh, I just realized that’s not it. The high pressure would need to go through the feed water back to domestic. That is not it. So anyway what could it be? I run at about 20 psi. When the coal boiler gets cranking the pressure slowly rises until the valve leaks.

Dear Ask this old house, Modern smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are mounted on the ceiling of houses, this does not make sense to me because smoke gathers at the top of a house so putting them on the ceiling is the best place, but carbon monoxide is heavier than air so this should be at ground level not ceiling? But they are in the same device.

The part i don't get is when Richard says that it was that the homeowner retired, but before he retired and lets just say that they were both at work all day (8hrs) wouldn't it have leaked out of the pressure relief valve. The homeowner says he gets up later doesn't run the water like for about 4 hours after his wife uses the water. Another thing is why is he using the shark bite fittings, those things are only good for temporary use
