The annealing temperature of ally is about the same as the burn temperature of soot. If you lay some soot on the ally casting where you want to hit it then heat it with a blow torch until the soot disappears you will have softened the casting. It'll work harden quickly as you move it with a hammer. So multiple heatings may be needed

Perserverance for the win! Had a similar shift lever issue on my project 1950 14hp Fastwin last summer. Thankfully discovered the lever could be adjusted for travel in both axis. Was a great feature for Evinrudes first year full shift outboard. Everything else was a pain. Great work!

Compression is good you just need everything else that’s why I have 3 extra ones for parts my wife says why do you need so many 1956 30hp Johnson motors I said parts is parts they all run 👍🏻🤘🏻

The dog inset to drive gears forward or reverse are off set from each other....if forward gear goes in easy then to apply reverse prop shaft or even crank drive shaft will have to rotate slightly to get it to syink to the reverse gear insert dog

You're never going to be able to sell that motor you can't get out of it what you got in it plus I believe that motor just does not like you it's had a rough life and it's ready to die

The manual want's those to be in F gear when removing and installing the lower. Also, safety stop on mag plate for the throttle twist has to be in position so that stop doesn't interfere. The issue is you can't get to the top screw (of the 2) for the shift shaft coupler thru the window when it's in F, so I think you just remove the bottom screw on the linkage coupler and you can pull your lower and leave it in F with the top screw in the coupler left in place on the shiftt shaft , if I remember right, but do correct me if I'm wrong! Look forward to see how it goes.

Is that lever on a spline if so just like a old dirt bike clutch shift or gear change lever it can be move a spline or two either way. I recon that a win fix. 👍🇦🇺🦘
