An older gentleman gave me 2 of those 25s yesterday. They look to be right around same year model. I haven't decoded them yet. With out a doubt will be very fun projects. Nothing beats the old 2 stroke engines

Hi, great video! Just wondering have you ever used any car engine oil treatment with the outboards you fix? I was thinking of using Duralube as it has always worked amazing with my cars!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks. No never tried anything outside the recommendations other than putting some stop leak in a gear case once. Back in the 50's they used regular motor oil to mix in the gas. I would be very careful with doing that, the 2-stroke is a different breed and trying different things could do more harm than good. Just saying. You don't want to burn up your motor. Thanks again. Stay tuned !

Hey I’ve got a 1979 25hp got it in pieces and I’ve got it together and running. It’s fairly reliable but I feel like I’ve got some of the carb linkage hooked up wrong. Do you think you could possibly show how the linkage is connected and I also can’t get the tilt to keep the motor up I no I just be missing a piece but I can’t figure out what it is any help is appreciated. Keep up the awesome videos bye they are super informative they have helped me build mine up

Hi, great video! I have watched all your videos that I could find! I have the same engine here in Finland and I just started restoring it. Also, I plan on painting the engine. Unfortunately, there are a lot of broken bolts on it - mostly on the power head. OMC bolts are pretty high price. Is it ok just to use regular high tensile steel bolts or should it always be OMC? I have tried to read about what bolts to use and where but there seems to be so many different opinions on that. What would you recommend for bolts? Maybe tutorial on bolts could be an idea for a video? Just a thought. Best wishes, Richard
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes, the bolts are stupid expensive, even used ones on ebay. But if you haven't already checked ebay it may be worth a shot. I personally don't have a problem using different bolts. Sometimes they're a bit short but a little loctite takes care of that. I think you'll be okay with regular high tensile steel bolts. I've picked up old outboards and they didn't have all the original bolts and it never seemed to make a difference as long as the torque down. Thanks again and any time I can help LMK. Stay tuned !
@richardlundell1202
@richardlundell1202 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your advice! Ok, sounds good - I will do that. Yes, I checked ebay but as you say the used ones are also very expensive. I will try high tensile with right torque. Thanks again, and yes I will stay tuned. Take care! Best wishes, Richard

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Maybe some of that liquid electrical tape will work. 3-4 coats and let it dry between coats. Other then that, cut/splice some new wire in. Connectors and heat shrink. Can get it all at any auto parts store. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

THIS OLD OUTBOARD I found the paint. Thank you. I hope to be done with it in a couple weeks. It's a good motor. We had it out on the water a couple of weeks ago. But I am fixing the electric start and kill switch. Going to also rebuild the carb but I can't find a low speed linkage. Guess that I have to make one. Lol. I will send you some pictures of it tomorrow.

No I seen it on KZbin guy welded right next to the bag that you don't actually well the flywheel that all you put a rag between the magnet in the middle right up against it and you make a couple welds and it changes the magnetic field in the magnet no actual welding done to the flywheel at all it picked up like 10 quarter inch nuts with the old flywheel and then welded it and then it picked up twenty or so I don't know if you remember the numbers. But when I first used the chips I sparked once and then stopped then I took a magnet and rubbed it on to the magnet of the flywheel then it started sparking again. Then it started the engine for about a minute maybe and seemed like it lost the magnetism in the flywheel again Sparks flashing white instead of dark blue. I guess I'm just being lazy and not putting in the new points and condenser like I should. But I'll get out there and get the new points. My plastic is missing off of the old button will I get shocked by that.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Жыл бұрын
I dont have a clue to what your describing. Like I said those chips are only good for little 3-4 horse motors. give it a good tune up then go from there. like I always say, if it's got good compression the rest is just a pain in the azz!

I got a 73 25hp evinrude guy said it needed a stator shoot me a video on stator s and how they play a part in the motor running
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 5 жыл бұрын
Hey. I wish that was all I had to do is whip out videos on request but unfortunately I dont. But here is some info. First of all your motor dosent have a stator.... But if it did, heres what it does.... A stator is basically a generator on earlier model outboards, or an alternator on later models. The purpose of the stator is to supply the energy needed to operate the ignition system on an outboard boat motor. It also contains charge coils which provides a charge current for the batteries. You do have a driver/charge coil. www.leeroysramblings.com/johnson_magneto.htm www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1973&hp=25

How do you check a fuel pump?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 5 жыл бұрын
Hey. I would always just start the motor, then while shes up and running pull the fuel line off the carb and rev it up, the gas should be squirting out at a pretty high volume, but you have to do it fast. You can also do a pressure test on the pump but we're just talkin bout a 25 horse here not a 250 horse, so if its looking good you're alright, if its just dribbling you have a problem . thx. Stay tuned !

Hey. Special tools, what special tools. Hahaha. Yes, its not that hard. I dont know your motor but I'm assuming you have good points, Good condensers, coils and plugs. Oh yeah, lets not forget Good compression on both cylinders and a Good Clean Carb. You will need a feeler gauge for the points and gap gauge for the plugs which you can get at any auto parts store. Ok, so heres the link for everything you need to know and dont woory about the horse power, this information pertains to all these small outboards. Tons of info at leeroys, thats where I learned everything. www.leeroysramblings.com/johnson_magneto.htm Also here is a link for the manual boatinfo.no/lib/evinrude/manuals/1971-1989johnsonevinrude.html#/0, good luck, let me know how it goes. thx.
