FYI, BLACKPINK actually debuted with two songs, dropped simultaneously. The other song was WHISTLE, which is WAYYY different than BOOMBAYAH. In their Netflix documentary BLACKPINK: LIGHT UP THE SKY, their writer/producer Teddy Park said "Too many people thought it (WHISTLE) was risky, most people at the company were against because it has this weird Country vibe to it, and it's super minimal. It just sounded too empty for a lot of people, most people were against it but we just pushed forward, whatever." WHISTLE went on to break the record for the fastest that a new artist reached number one in the charts, after only 13 days. ...I discovered BLACKPINK two weeks after they debuted. I saw a small mention in Entertainment Weekly about a new group to check out with a photo from BOOMBAYAH. I watched the video and my brain melted, it was so different than the rock/rap that I was used to! (and they didn't even have subtitles back then!) That was my introduction to K-Pop and I've been a BLINK and a K-Pop fan ever since.

The truck that Lisa appears in in this video is the same one that appears in Shut Down, but here it is full of garbage bags and in Shut Down it is full of black bags with bills. Between one song and another they have made a lot of economic progress 😁😁

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the original title was supposed to be "oppaya", but Jisoo requested it be changed to boombayah.

Lots of music aficionados are only discovering kpop now. The development of kpop music happened so fast, there's a progression and history to the music styles and how they've changed in the past couple of decades. There's a lot to go back and discover and I don't think anyone has written that history yet.

If you go back and pay attention to the background during the classroom dance part the windows have some shapes to them they are actually water bottles that they piled up on top of one another to create that effect and on also during Jisoo's part where shes silling against the truck the sweat on her face is actually because where they shot the video the temperature was extremely hot that day also it is Jisoo that helps with the visuals of the videos

I came in two months after their debut but this was the first song I heard by them and whistle I did catch their comeback, playing with fire and stay and they are still my favorites today so I have been a fan of their since 2016 there is not one song that I don’t like that’s how good they are

They've got there this fast thanks to Blackpink, to some extent at least, because a lot of Blinks are there for them as they are Blackpink's little sisters. And kpop is bigger now than it was at the time of BP's debut. They are talented, of course, but I do think that it would have taken them a bit longer if they were completely on their own there.

It starts to get a bit silly attributing the success of 1 group to another group. This is the YG DNA. It started with 1TYM. YG himself was an idol. You could call Baby Monster YG girl group version 3.0. Anyway Blackpink girls are too busy with their own stuff so they may never get back as a group again. Give up and go support Baby Monster.
