Hi Roscoe!! I’ve been following your BTS journey for a while now. I’m normally very shy to comment but as a Pakistani I was so excited to see you reacting to this. Coke studio does an incredible job of mixing modern and traditional Pakistani sounds. Kana Yaari and Thagyan have the same modern-traditional mix and Peechay Hutt is more pop/rap … if you wanted to check out more (all from coke studio season 14). Ps I absolutely love your content … Love from Canada 💜💜

im so glad that youre actually interested in the culture. im pakistani and I'll try my best to explain: so i see you're somewhat familiar with the arranged marriage culture which could be a possible plot behind the lyircs but just so you know, even if a third party is not involved falling in love in pakistan and being very open about it is not something that just casually happens. from what ive seen, when people do fall in love they'll make hideouts where they can exchange letters between classes or "meet up" discreetly infront of a remote shop where it doesn't actually look like the two people know each other. the word pasoori literally means difficulty, inconvenience or something synonymous to those words. just falling in love in a society like that is a brave move, because you never know if people will accept you and your lover at all. the line that you really like "i hope you fall in love, i hope it breaks your heart" stems from something we pakistanis just tend to say alot generally, "i hope you go through the thing I'm going through so you know how i feel". Its usually very half hearted and that's how i interpreted the lyrics, one of them probably caught the other lacking ; maybe the other person wasnt on their hide out on time, didn't reply to their messages or something like that so the person feels very betrayed because they're giving it all they've got despite the world being against them and their lover isn't matching their energy. those lyrics potray them feeling like they're the only one whose actually in love and risking their all for love so they're basically cursing the other person that i hope you fall in love with someone like i fell in love with you and they treat you the same way you're treating me and when that breaks your heart, you'll know what i went through. this got kind of long but you'll find similar meaning behind many, many pakistani songs and urdu ghazals.

I interpret it as young passionate lovers who can't imagine being away from each other. They get nervous whenever distant develops whether it's for simple things like work, chores, arguments, etc... or whatever the reason would be. They're just expressing it in a raw manner and I love it.

I like to interpret this song as yes they're in love and they want to be vulnerable enough with each other or they want each other to be vulnerable enough to put their heart on the line for each other and maybe it may break or maybe not but its worth a shot.

Xulfi has been the producer and director of cokestudio amd S14 was co-produced by Abdullah siddiqui. Xulfi is a genius and maestro. The melodies he brings in cokestudio is like dream. Mixing of traditional and modern music is what he believes creates magic and world needs this blend as we have created the extremes in music. Cokestudio songs are highly poetic and deep. There is alwaus a story behind them. Overall Pakistani songs have high quality poetry. Also do check some pop songs like "Na cher malanga nu" it is a tribute to taylor swift. "Ae Ajnabi" by atif aslam.

this song can be interpreted into many meanings, so my way of understanding is, if i start from beginning, I mainly focus on the name of song which gives idea what writer wanted to say, the word pasoori means a problem/complex situation, then both singers go about their problems with eachother and why they think they got heartbroken so they are telling each other(complaining to eachother) they want each other to go through breakup to feel that pain of leaving other person so they will understand how he/she used to love him/her and come back to them. once they have complained to each other and now their hearts/consciousness are clear from all griefs and complaints they came to realize they both were suffering from same pain. hence, they want to get back together and understand each other's pasoori(problem), burn problems and worries (help each other solve their problems). so they used same words to start with complaints and tell eachothers side of story then they used same words to say we will solve them together.. this was my understanding, for understanding real meaning u can watch BTS(behind the scenes) of this song :)

It's so normal about Pasoori to decide whether to listen, read the lyrics or to watch the masterpiece that the video is. I think you need to watch the video twice, once to understand the lyrcis and once to watch the video becuase every second of the video is a piece of art. you can't blink your eye.

Man !! .. as a Pakistani I LOVED your reaction ! I am so happy to see how our beautiful music, culture and poetry is FINALLY being acknowledged and recognised all over the world . 🙏🙌 To explain the phrase you said U didnt understand ..its not about arrange marriage 😁... This song is about 2 lovers In Seperation that plagues their relationship ! PASORI in punjabi means " Panic " something thats hurried.. so the guy is pissed off about the distance and the hurried short meetings they have . So the distance has turned love poisonous but he is still willing to drink it.. because he's madly in love with her ! So he wants to set Fire to all the circumstances and Setbacks that keeps them apart. As he yearns and longs for her .. and she is mirroring his yearning as well ! Coke Studio Pakistan is Da Bomb ! So proud 🙏❤

Hi, new to the channel from Pakistan. 13:02 So what I interpret from what I know a bit about cultural literature and poetry and the concept of love, is very entwined with with Godly and humanly concepts of love. So usually poetry and literature point to more of an all consuming love in which you experience the highs and the lows, the reunions and the heartbreaks, which mould you and complete you. If you haven’t experienced a heartbreak, you haven’t experienced the depth. Heartbreak might not necessarily mean to break up, rather that you can feel the sorrow and happiness of the beloved. A very famous verse from a very historical poet Bulleh Shah, revolving around two historical lovers from this region Ranjha (guy) and Heer (girl), translate somewhat to “Chanting the name of Ranjha, I have become Ranjha myself, O people, call me Ranjha now, don’t call me Heer” roughly interpreting to being so in love that your emotions become completely in sync with your lover, losing your own self behind. Both lovers transforming them selves into each other. This is also a Sufi concept where if to achieve complete nirvana and transcendence you need to lose yourself and become one with God, only reflecting His characteristics. To letting go of one’s egos. Hence it doesn’t necessarily represent cursing someone to fall in love and having a break up, rather experiencing heartbreak. Also, watch the Magical Journey for this song where Ali explains the concept of Conflict, breaking of boundaries , represented in the song

Hi Roscoe, By this time you might have already known but let me tell you just in case. Coke Studio started in 2008 and earlier they used to sing covers and make renditions of old songs. With years passing by it matured, added some amateur singers also to promote them, added new songs and enhanced production. All songs are one take and sung live. A very beautiful idea which flourished and matured with time. Loved your reaction because you being a music director understood the idea behind the song, read the lyrics, enjoyed the music and gave a very genuine reaction. Thank You for exploring Pakistani Culture and Music.

The theory is very off lol. It has nothing to do with an arranged marriage. There is a bts video of them working on the song and it's more about 2 people who want to be together, can't be together. Pasoori translates into "conflict" which is what the song is about.

Hi Roscoe, I am pretty sure a lot of people from Pakistan had alredy told you about the concept of the song😅. But i just wanted to add that (also as a side information about our culture). As many might have told you that almost all the songs have the same concept it is because in Pakistan loving someone openly is not very common. It's very rare when a someone claims to love someone oppenly as it is like prohibited even though it is not prohibitted in Islam(in Islam you can love someone but you cannot be their boyfriend/girlfriend if you want the boundaries to fo away you have to marry her) . In the song you can see Shae Gil says "I forgot my chains and people's refrains" which means "I don't care what other people think" and they are finding difficulty to meet due to our culture. Even though it is slowly disappearing it still sometimes happens.

The first time I heard this song, I found it very interesting that Ali Sethi also uses the masculine pronouns to refer to his lover in the song, given the prevalent social norms around sexuality in PK. It turns out he’s queer so this adds another dimension to the song, alongside the other interpretations regarding heterosexual relations. 😊

All the confusion is cause it's a typical lost in translation case, that too literally. The guys is saying I hope she falls in love too and experience heart break just like him. And the girl says she's broken all chains of tradition and loved him, and he's unaware of her dilemma(pasoori). That being said, it's hard to translate word from word as it loses its meaning.
