WE HUNT THE FLAME IS SO GOOD OMG 🥺 the beginning is a little slow, but it really sets up the world/history of the story so it’s necessary. THE BEST ZUMRA OMG!! The ending is also very satisfying and I was very happy with it! I’m so excited for you 💖

I’m devoting my tbr for February to black history month and reading books by black authors, I’m reading Raybearer, Ring Shout, The Vanishing Half, Yellow Wife and The Year of the Witching! I think it’s going to be a great month!

From blood and ash gets way more dept when you get to the main plot twist closer to the end of the book- the world becomes much more interesting and the romance becomes so much more angsty. I love angst so I prefer the second book but both are some of my faves to read. If you don’t like reading a romance centered fantasy then I can see why you wouldn’t enjoy the series but I think the story is so interesting - there is so much mystery to it.

I'm a huge JLA fan and I LOVED From Blood and Ash, but she is definitely the type of author whose writing style isn't award-winning but has a way of sucking you in with her characters and stories. If you read it with the mindset of it being a fun, dramatic, but addicting ride rather than a mind-blowing piece of literature, you'll probably enjoy it more! I would give it a little more time :)

We Hunt The Flame was one of my favorite reads of 2020. The world building was beautiful, the character development was superb and the plot was engaging too! I just got the second book in the mail and I did not realize it's almost 600 pages ahah 🤣 Also, the exquisite covers make them all the much better! ❤

I just finished the sequel to WE HUNT THE FLAME and let me tell you both books are an emotional Rollercoaster with a lot of fun banter and great character development in two books which is fascinating 😍🤩 and the ending of the first book will make you cry 😭😭😭 well deserved tears ofcourse

I promise you From Blood and Ash picks up and soooo much happens. Its was one of my fav books of 2020 and the sequel was a wild ride. I read both We Hunt the Flame and We Free the Stars this past month and I would say that it was average - gave each 3.5 stars. There are parts I loved and some parts I felt like dragged on. But I was def entertained and still liked the story. Given that it was a debut duology I thought it was really good and I will be reading whatever she puts out next.

I guess I would say for Blood and Ash- it picks up a lot more soon from where you are and it gets super twisty! But it’s totally understandable if you don’t like the tropes... they aren’t like necessarily meant to be likable lol. But if you push on it picks up very quickly and then I couldn’t put it down! Hope that helps :)

I read We Hunt the Flame at the end of the year and enjoyed it! I found the weakest part to be the plot, but the characters and atmosphere make it worth it. I haven’t picked up the second book but definitely plan on doing so, because I really loved the character development!

I am currently finishing up “IT” but here is my TBR for February: “The Mother of Black Hollywood” by Jennifer Lewis. “The Truths We Hold” by Kamala Harris. “A Promise Land” by Barrack Obama and “Just As I Am” by Cicely Tyson. I’ve been holding off on memoirs because I wasn’t in the mood to deal with real world things(if you haven’t read “Becoming” you really should). Non-memoirs TBR: “The Vanishing Half” “Go Tell It On The Mountain” “Such A Fun Age” “My Sister, The Serial Killer” “The Hate U Give” and “The Bluest Eye” All of these book are by black authors ☺️

I recently read The Memory Police, and had to switch from Ebook to Audiobook, because of the pace, and writing. I really loved the book, it was written beautifully, and the story was intresting. I would really recommend it as an audiobook!
