Forty years ago, I owned an 1977 998 cc Austin Mini Clubman estate. I followed David Vizard's advice in his book "TUNING THE A-SERIES ENGINE " & polished & ported the head, had it skimmed a few thou, fitted a Reece Fish carburetter & straight through exhaust (muffler). The vehicle was quite a bit quicker & far nicer to drive. According to that book, there was much more that could have been done, but we traded it in for something quieter. I even purchased Clive Trickey's book "MORE MINI TUNING" as I thought about buying an MG Midget, but realised I was not up to welding rusty air.! The "A" series engines in your cars would reward you, if you don't already own those two books on Amazon. All the best.

Great stuff. Not the quickest car out there (I've raced slow cars and know how it feels to be constantly looking in the mirrors after a few laps) but it goes very well. Ive owned and raced street midgets and mgb's and they are great fun. Cant beat some historic racing.

Gearing looks ok..might be down on power..maybe suspension not quite compliant(too hard)..

It probably had half the power of any other car there, it was the only FIA App.K legal car running that weekend. The grey Sebring used to be log booked car as well but they swapped in a 1275 among other things and made it no longer a legal FIA car.
