The proper name for them is four bar linkage, you can do some really cool things with them. Love how your table looks good in the closed and open modes.

How's the hinges working out. I was thinking the threads on the bolts would chew through the mdf eventually. You could always put steel bushings in larger holes or get bolts with long smooth shoulders and cut to length.

Nice coffee table. there is a Q. Are you varnished or oiled the coffee table and how do you make it ????
@thiswoodwork7 жыл бұрын
+Aden City Thanks Aden! I applied 3 coats of "finishing oil", which I believe is a mixture of oils and resins. You should be able to see it in my first video. I then buffed that out lightly with some paste wax. Hope that helps!

Well done young sir, tell me, is there a counter balance issue? So if you put your weight on it will it tip ?
@thiswoodwork7 жыл бұрын
+Dave Williams Thanks Dave! To my surprise it's quite stable. Yes, if you put your weight on the very edge it would tip as there is little counterbalance with this design. Having it stop not as far forward would've certainly helped, but I didn't want that. That said, for normal use it is fine and I haven't had any problems - I use it every day!

Nice one, love it though, great design and well built.

I like your rounding jig for the belt sander. How much does walnut cost in the UK? In the Seattle area it's about $15 or 11 pounds B/F.

Glad you could pick up something from the video! I couldn't give an exact figure but as a non-native specie, much more expensive unfortunately, as it is one of my favorite woods.

This is by far the best woodworking book I have ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . My woodworking teacher endorses it to all of his students. I am impressed how authors managed to write very detailed topics. I`m surprised by the material and didn`t have a tough time following the lessons..

Great video Alex. I like that sanding jig. Is the table for yourself, or is it a gift?
@thiswoodwork7 жыл бұрын
+magicrobharv Thanks! The table is for myself as I desperately needed furniture for the new apartment I am living in! This dual function has come in really handy.

ThisWoodwork Alex, you should make an update video. Are you still in University, have you graduated or close to graduation, are you living by yourself or with roommates? Some of us have been following your woodworking videos since you were doing them as the teen woodworker. An update video would put things in context. Keep the great videos coming!

Does it lock in place when raised?
@thiswoodwork7 жыл бұрын
+Heavyboxes DIY Master As the parallelogram is forward from vertical the weight acts to hold it in the raised position. That combined with the spring force serves as a pretty sufficient lock.
