This is - by Thom Browne standards - quite restrained. Unlike his other shows, there are pieces that could actually be worn. Some of the beaded work is beautiful and the embroidery is exquisite. It's not as wacky as other shows, but I prefer this blend of clothes-from-another-planet and elegant wearable looks. Pretty amazing, Thom! Related thought: Why don't they do this show in the afternoon for the fashion press and invited guests - then do the same show in the evening with tickets for sale? This is theater and I would pay $200 - $300 to see it. Maybe make back some of the money that goes into a production like this.

I see what you mean. But let's not forget that this is a fashion show, and its main purpose is not necessarily to be appealing. In fact, its main aim is to be contemporary, capturing those aspects that have marked our present, regardless of whether good or bad, and putting them together through the means of fashion. Just like a contemporary painting or installation. For example, while I agree with your feeling about it, all I can see here is still extreme beauty and artistry, it's almost cinematic, the slow movements, the colours, the setting. I can see past, present and future blending in with one another.

So, please tell me what is the Japanese influence, cos I don't see it. And I really don't know haute couture, I just watch fashion on YT. I'm no fashion expert at all, so my opinion is just my own. Still, I love the presentation, especially because the clothes parade cheekily to my favorite classical music selections. Anyway, stripped of the models' cartoonishly theatrical makeup and hairstyles, the collection has all the recognizable Thom Browne signature mix of tailored pieces in various proportions and well-chosen fabrics. And they are actually wearable - if one has the budget for and is inclined to wear them.

not the intended concept at all, but to me this brings to mind a very specific story for me. It's a scene of two people saying goodbye on a dock on a foggy morning, with one of them about to make a long ocean voyage. the two people exchange what can possibly be their last moments together as passers-by dressed solemnly board the ship. there is the lingering, unspoken fear that over time they'll lead separate lives and forget each other's faces and eventually become as strange to each other as the other people and birds in the scene all dressed in grey. with every toll of the bell, the hour of departure draws nearer. the waves churn into a foam of inexpressible things caught in their throats. The person left behind comes back to the dock often to sit there and watch the ocean, birds, and other people getting on ships. life goes on, but this ocean scene never changes. but then again I feel like you could write a million melancholy stories about the color grey and the sea.

I commented on a fashion show once about how unrealistic these clothes are and wondered if people really wore some of this stuff. A person commented, 'These aren't wearables; they're watchables'. It makes me see them in a whole new light. I still don't know how much you would have to pay me to model them, but it would have to be a LOT! Like the music.

Interesting, but I get a feeling of a sad dystopian society trying very hard not to fall face first while wearing incredibly awkward shoes. Love the handbags.

Magnificent collection. It’s reminiscent of German expressionism of the 1930’s. I have to have that coat with the huge bell sleeves!! This collection gives me chills!! Love it!!

What a strange and beautiful story. I couldn’t stop watching! I did feel sorry for the models that got the impossible shoes. I could see several of them with shaking legs and near miss stumbles.

I mean everything was everything but the shoes just made everyone look like they had an impediment. Their one job is to 'walk' and it was made almost impossible and completely painful looking.
