Thom Green of Alt-J - Living with Alport Syndrome Part 1 of 4

Interview with Alt-J Drummer Thom Green, who talks about living with Alport Syndrome. This is part 1 of a 4-part series.
Thom has a rare genetic disease called Alport Syndrome, which causes a decline in kidney function, hearing loss, and vision problems. He was on kidney dialysis for 4 years before receiving a kidney transplant.
The interview took place at New York City's historic Madison Square Garden on March 30, 2015, only hours before Thom and his band Alt-J performed to a sold out crowd.
Thom was interviewed by Kevin Schnurr, a 29-year-old Alport Syndrome patient and transplant recipient.

I'm really surprised, I've been following Alt-j long time ago and I love their job, their songs, their music, and today I realized that one of their members has alport syndrome and I have alport syndrome, but I'm a woman, so the disease is not too aggressive with me, I have a hearing loss and "hematuria", I'm 27 years old and I feel identified with Thom. My brother has a kidney transplant since 25 years old, and is from my father, and a lot of members of my family has the syndrome or they are "carriers". Yes, we are not the only one and we are not alone.

No we are not. I was also born with Alport syndrome, but since i'm also a woman, it is not so aggresive to me. I have severe proteinuria and eye and ear abnormalities. Got it from my mom, who got it from her father. My grandpa had a severe case of Alports and died young. Seeing this video surprised me aswell. Stay strong. Love Thom 😊
