Playing broken thirds like you did at 5:42 is a part of my typical warm up as well. I usually start my warm up by playing major and minor arpeggios starting on C major (3rd fret of A string) and working up the fret board chromatically to the 12th fret. Then, run through a major and minor in broken thirds in all keys.

Great insight, thank you Julia! I am not a bass player but my warm up "gymnastics" without instrument are pretty much the same. I just add some strechings for thumbs, hands, arms, shoulders and neck before playing scales and after the scales before practising music. I can strongly recommend that to everybody who has muscle-tension issues....

After stretching my hands and back, I like to play an ascending arpeggio exercise. start on C and play major arpeggio, then minor arpeggio and ascend up chromatically. I think i learned this from a Daric Bennett video. I also like to play major and minor scales in broken 3rds and 5ths. After the ascending arpeggios and broken 3rds and 5ths. I'm warmed up and ready to go! EDIT: i had commented before watching the entire video and see Julia does the broken 3rds as well. Nice!

Nice mix for a warm-up! When I´m not holding cymbals I move my fingers one finger per fret from high to low going through all strings for warm-up 1234, next run 4321, or sometimes with a Beatles song slowly (Drive my Car e.g.) ;)

Try this.. Finger tips touching of both hands out in front of you. Flex the pyramid it forms to stretch the muscles. No need to push hard just flex back and forth. Next while flexing rotate your hands pointing away from you and back towards your self. That motion builds the muscles in the arms that help move the hands. You will feel the difference right away. This has helped the arthritis in my hands greatly. I hope it helps you or others.

very enlightening. can you go over your tuning, as in when you say you chose D flat major. as opposed to regular tuning? i pretend to play with a group that likes to play heavy metal so they like to play in drop D and drop B and such. and i understand the concept of these lower key tunings or whatever. i would like to know if you have any cool tricks for easily adjusting the bass tuning between different ways such as drop D, drop B, etc... great video!

Okay that answered the question of how I and so many of my friends got in trouble over the years. Don’t swirl drinks in a glass and change the weight by drinking what is in the glass.......as warm up. My second and third base are both older than you my first died when I dropped it down a flight of stairs. Its last notes light me on fire and let me go out like a Jimmy Hendrix guitar. It is simply a pleasure to see how much you enjoy playing. My passion is now working of sounds for video games.......
