great video. in my opinion the 707 is a great kick to start with and especially for modern or melodic styles. good click, has punch, and not too low. it’s also short so it gets out of the way quickly

the perfect kick drum can only be crafted once the rest of the tune is complete, as the 'perfect' kick drum, by definition, must sit in complete harmony and sympathy with the rest of the orchestration. and we all know most of us cant be bothered by that stage. but it is worth it.

Many artists start with the kickdrum though…..????
@MartsMcfly3 ай бұрын
Yes of course, but once the tune is "finished" go and switch it out with a better perfect kick that complements the whole peice. This is something I do almost every track and it is definitely a critical step for me @@TechnoAssassin-vx6zf

For me, i think the most difficult part of production is finding the right kick. Nice video!

@ThomannSynthesizers definitely very well explained and helpful. I will check that Transify plugin!

Great video. My advice is get the VST Chop Suey by Dawsome. Placing your transient / (body) / sub sequentially rather than in parallel (layering) was a revelation to me. My kicks never sounded so clean and tight: No more phasing issues.

Jonas with 9 minutes on kick drums? Hold my calls.

I think the kick is the most unimportant element of a track. How many times have you heard a song and thought "wow, everything's so good but the kick ruins it for me"? You can have a phenomenal kick but if the other tracks aren't great the whole song is shit. But if you have some amazing tracks on top of a lame kick the song can still be great. Of course that's just my opinion. A lot of people happily dance to songs that have amazing kicks and not a lot more going on.

i start EQing kickdrum from highs to lows. Highpass filter starting from high, mid+highs and after the lows. Like this I know how much bass would be enough with the rest. I hope this is helpful!

Dear Jonas and all the viewers, can anyone tell me where i can get that "table" or rack you are using for your modular system at 0:15 ? This would fit my small studio perfectly

What is your technique to send mid and hi only to reverb?
@ThomannSynthesizers4 ай бұрын
Heyy, depending on the Kick I am using, bust most easy is if a have different layers. I’ll have a send channel with reverb 100% wet and send the mid signal to it + sidechaining it to the mid signal itself to clean it a little. On the reverb itself I’ll take the lows off to avoid muddy frequencies flying around. If it’s not layered then you can group multiband dynamics into low/mid/high and create a rack on the the channel you want. Duplicate it there and have one with 100% reverb and one without. Adjust the volume to your likes :)
