Not quite - there was a French House scene already (v. inspired by Chicago House and 70s/80's funk/disco) but it was very much a local thing, not very well known outside the Paris clubs. Bangalter was arguably the first French DJ to add something that was unique and that inspired a sound in French House that was all its own. That and his label releases were a part of what helped it gain popularity elsewhere, and his Daft Punk work with Guy-Man helped bring it to the attention of a wider audience

I listened to Crydamoure Waves volumes I and II, and I; I really enjoyed their mix of Raw Man's Lovers, amongst their other things, but I still think that Thomas Bangalter pretty much still blows everyone out of the water. Dave Armstrong put out some really great tracks, like Make Your Move, and of course Sebastien Leger's We Are was just delicious. It'd be nice if we returned more to the repetitious banging tracks, rather than the poppified house of today.

Random access memories n'a rien à voir avec ce que les Daft Punk faisaient au début... Les temps ont changé, ça ne sera jamais plus pareil.
