Excellent book. I remember a review of his book in the NYT or other paper that said people vote for a candidate based on policies other than those that benefit one's own interests. I thought those reviewers were condescending to the great unwashed. And I was right. The pundits who support or ignore Trump's bizarre nonsense are the same. They know Trump is not in the best interest of the nation. But it does not matter. Wealthy candidates who win elections don't work for the interest of the majority. They talk religion and family values. They acquire money at the expense of the poor and doltish majority. The education system is a disaster.

The election of Donald Trump in 2016, is the first real evidence of meaningful progress for the Social Conservatives who were so aptly lampooned in Thomas Frank's prophetic book, "What's the Matter With Kansas?" The untold truth is that these exact same ProLife Social Conservatives faithfully attended Trump Rallies, and helped Trump with his many Primary Season victories, sometimes openly in opposition to their own entrenched Republican Party leadership in 2015 and 2016, giving Trump his unanticipated (by most) General Election Victory in November. I am writing this in June of 2016, and I am still on cloud-9 over Trump's win! Thomas Frank needs a new chapter in his book!

The problem with Conservative politicians is that they do not care about the working class and seek to exploit them, but at least they are honest and the working class can believe them. The problem with Liberal politicians is that they pretend to be something that the working class does not believe even exists ... a politicians that will represent the working class. Liberal politicians need to be watched and vetted more, and the working class is afraid they will give away their tax money to people who do not deserve it. The working class is righteously mad because they pay too much taxes since they are making up for the upper classes who do not really pay taxes - the richer they are the less tax they pay. So the majority of those who do pay taxes are mad because they are hit with the deficit/debt. We have something like 18 trillion debt and add to that every year, and the money that the very rich do not pay in taxes goes into their rainy day fund for when it call collapses so they can buy everything up. The working class don't seem to realize or do not believe that they rich or anyone else has any responsiblity to the country and the people. Americans hate and disrespect each other. They don't realize that if the rich paid their taxes they would not feel over-burdened and would have health care and education benefits that would lead to growth. The Conservatives want to make sure that is never proven to the working class or else they will always vote Liberal ... and so both parties must be taken over in addition to the media so the people never learn the truth and keep paying and feeling miserable for it until they demand government shut down and the rich elite oligarchs run everything ... yes, we are that stupid apparently.

Just so everyone knows! This author grew up in one of the most liberal counties in Kansas and went to the most liberal college in Kansas which happens to be the other liberal county and the only two counties to vote for Hillary in Kansas in the 2016 presidential election. He does not to have a clue about what the people in the other 103 of the 105 counties stand for. He seems to think we're idiots for not taking other people's money to support ourselves. We believe you should leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. We want our land grant colleges to study how to raise the best crops we can without polluting the land and water, we pay them for that! By the way most of the farmers and rancher in kansas have a college degree! We believe in personal choice and right to life! If we make bad decisions we expect you to take responsibility for that choice, if we make a good choice we expect to reap the rewards for that choice and not be penalized for it ! We judge a man or woman based on their character not their color or their sexial choice. There are a few, very few, racist in Kansas but they are very old for the most part and no amount of arguing is going to change their mind so we try to get the younger ones around them to see how wrong and backwards they are. As for the old racists we'll just have to wait for them to die on their own. There are many women that own and operate farms and ranches in Kansas and we are proud of them. My grandmother farmed and ranched on her own for 25 years after my grandfather died, and even while fighting skin cancer she never asked for shit, she was one tough woman! Years after she'd beaten skin cancer she got cancer in her neck and the day after all her cattle were sold and on my grandfathers birthday she died from it. I only heard her curse once in her life, i was 12 at the time, it was on July 3 1988 while watching the 6pm news on CBS,one of the 3 tv channels she had. On the tv were protests in Iran and in America over Iran Air Flight 655 passenger plane being shot down by the missile cruiser USS Vincennes. Both the Iranian people and American protester were burning the american flag! She said "they'll never get it"meaning both protesters in Iran and America. I asked her what she meant? She said that" we could be beating the shit out of each other, brother to brother, neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend, enemy to enemy and that we were all Americans and if we were attacked no matter what our battles were about the same Americans fighting each other would turn shoulder to shoulder and fight alongside each other and for each other as Americans" She said "the Americans burning their own countries flag were a bunch liberal pussies who would never understand or respect their own country". I think she was right! IF YOU ASK WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KANSAS? I ASK WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU!
