Just love Tommy Hearns he never boasted never trash talked he was a devastating puncher and did his talking in the ring. Total respect for this man

and the one time he did trash-talk (against Hagler), that was more about trying to promote the fight than showing animousity or disrespect.

Tommy did his fair share of trash talk. Just not the retarded trash talk of the next generation. He was not shy about telling you how he was going to knock you out.

I worked with Jeff and spoke with him about this fight. He said he didn't remember anything after the first knockdown. He was a low key easy going guy.

Thank you Tim Ryan for saying that Hearns was born in Memphis. So many announcers assume he was born in Detroit. 1 of 9 kids you know there was hardship there. L In the Legendary nights for Hearns vs Hagler Ralph Wiley talks about Hearns coming to Kronk to learn how to fight because he was tired of getting his coats stolen. That always gets to me.

Back in the day I'd go to department stores to watch fights on their TVs. I've watched fights standing on the street watching TVs in store Windows too. We're talking 80s here I grew up in the country and there wasn't even the option of having cable. I'd read the TV guide and on Saturday and Sunday I'd have to figure out where I could watch the fights. I also used to listen to them on the radio. I listened to Duran Leonard and Ali Berbick on the radio.

I have to disagree with you on the Hagler fight. Hagler was only in trouble because of the cuts. Other than that, Hagler took Hearns to school the way he came up the ranks. What I saw about the Hitman, was the same thing I saw from a boxer from Florida. The only difference is the Hitman was a hell of a boxer, who fell in love with the ability to put guys to sleep. Had he trained for going the distance, he would have easily whupped Ray Leonard and possibly took Hagler the distance.
@kufujitsu
@kufujitsu Жыл бұрын
If Hearns fought Hagler the way he fought Benitez, he would have had a shot at beating him. But Hearns was coming off that early KO against Duran, & he got too caught up in the Hagler/Hearns pre-fight hype, which was about whether or not Hearns could do the same thing to Hagler that he did to Duran Hearns should have boxed Hagler like Leonard did.

Dsd BsAs,Argentina.

My favorite Hearns fights are his welterweight bouts. When he was on the come up. When he could still make that weight. He just came out for the first round and tape measured their chins. And when the second round came he unleashed rapid fire punishment. Those little dudes were helpless. When he got to Middleweight he was still tall for the weight, but not two weight classes below his height like his earlier years. Makes Tyson that much more impressive knowing that he was usually fighting somebody 4 to 8 inches taller and that didn't count for shit for 4 years. I disagree with pundits about Tyson injecting life into a stagnant heavyweight division. The division was far stronger under Holmes. Holmes just doesn't get his due because he almost killed Ali. The best fighter Tyson whipped was Holmes, and then #2 was Spinks who was an unworthy champion to begin with. Besides that, those Tubbs, Tucker, Smith, Berbciks were all trash. Buster Douglas for one night in Tokyo was the best heavyweight between Tyson and Lewis. Buster in shape was pretty impressive. And Tyson still had him KOd Its so funny that Hagler KOd Hearns, but Tommy still gets more love. I think it's because the American people love Detroit and hate Boston. As it should be. Only Boston bitches like Boston.

I thought Hearns was a legend but he had that legendary glass chin,he`d go down quiet easily.Nigel Benn was at one time looking to fight him and i think would have sparked him.But he ran into Chris Eubank.
@kevindean1327
@kevindean1327 2 жыл бұрын
He didn't have a great chin but he was only stopped a couple times so he had a decent chin, he was no Amir Khan!!! But he wasn't Jake LaMotta either. I think him coming in at 145 for the first Leonard fight caused stamina issues, He had Hagler wanting to kill him on the press tour, and Barkley was his cryptonite. Aside from that his chin took him to the top of the game. Another thing to consider is that knockout artists sacrafice defense to a degree because they don't play it safe so they're susceptible to being countered. Did Tyson have a good chin? I think so but he was stopped more times than Tommy.

Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, Buster Douglas (RIP) , Riddick Bowe, Meldrick Taylor, Muhammed Ali (RIP)), plus many many more all sound the exact same. All the same slurred, mumbled speech. Repeated head shot damage. Sad. What other big names am I missing? And I'm guessing this is why so many of them fade from public view.
