Tommy's father was a transient worker, moving from state to state. While working down south, he heard Tommy was about to start boxing as a 13-year-old. Father drove all the way back to Detroit to tell Tommy in no uncertain terms that he did not want him boxing. Tommy did not listen (probably told his father that he would follow his advice), and the rest is history.

Wasn't dominating but was winning. Remember Leonard had Hearns hurt in middle rd . Ray knew from there he would get him later. Dundee told Leonard he was blowing it and Ray responded Tommy had no chance then ! Tommy definitely won 2nd fight which they called a draw.

Boxing has been good to the Hit Man and the Hit Man has been good to boxing and is definitely deserving of a place in the Hall of Fame. With that said, Boxing has definitely taken much from the Hit Man as far as his health is concerned which is obvious in his speech and with that said, Thomas Hearns, just like all the Legends of Old in the Great Sport of Boxing have given so very much of themselves to make this Great Sport what it is today, paving the way for all who come after them.

Hearns only lost 5 fights during his career. He started at welterweight and later on moved up to light heavyweight. He is tall and has broad shoulders and was very skinny at 147 lbs. I saw many of his fights including his fights with Sugar Ray Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Cuevas, Virgil Hill and Iran Barkley.
