Leonard here shows superior speed, accuracy, defense, timing, ring generalship. If Hagler hit harder as a middleweight in this position he would have take care of a little welterweight. I doubt Leonard beats Jake Lamotta, Frank Klaus, Stanley Ketchel the more aggressive harder hitting guys. I think Haglers boxing ability and punching power are both overrated. He was maybe the toughest mw next to Lamotta but agood middleweight is supposed to destroy a welterweight not get dominated by one.

This fight has been analyzed for decades by boxing experts and computer technology and the fact is that Marvelous Marvin Hager landed 73 percent of all clean punches landed. If Leonard threw a 6 punch combination and landed 1 clean punch, the crowd went crazy and obviously his score went up, however the fact is this. Apart from the fact that Haggler should never have agreed to Leonards demands for a bigger ring than the standard size and bigger gloves than the standard size, so Leonard could run away from Haggler and Haggler would find it more difficult to hurt Leonard with the bigger gloves. Hagler was my all-time favorite boxer. But he was lacklustre on this occasion. Probably his poorest overall performance ever. Leonard may have been backpedaling all fight but his punching was far more accurate and therefore scored more points.. And of course there's no rule saying you can't fight using that tactic . I think the "draw" Leonard got with Hearns wes a travesty. Hearns beat him all ends up that night.

Marvelous Marvin is my favorite fighter of all time and the greatest middleweight in my lifetime. I’ve watched this fight multiple times and can’t get away from the fact that Marvin gave away the first four rounds and Leonard won the tactical game by stealing close rounds by throwing combinations at the end of them and impressing the judges. The fight was lost before the first bell by Hagler when he caved to Leonard’s demands for the 12 rounds, larger ring and gloves. Had It gone 15 rounds, Hagler would have knocked Ray out because he was gassed after 12 and Marvin was coming on. RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Hagler won this. Leonard is a psychological boxer but the psychology is on the judges not on the opponent, it's all about trying to make it look like he is controlling the fight by constantly running away and playing tag game show off. Hagler does not respect his punch because they are harmless. Leonard plays on his opponent frustration by not fighting toe to toe and then once in a while let him come in and throws a flurry and it's rabbit runaway again.. Just questionable boxing. Mayweather junior took this and pushed it even further and it's not quite boxing. To be fair Leonard has a great hook technique coming from the hip and shoulders on both side that is like a flash. He also uses it for body shot. I give him that. But i don't think he beat haggler, he just make him look bad by dancing with haggler looks like those dogs trying to approach a standing horse and cannot catch any of his legs.

I could only detect SRL winning like 2 rounds at most, with many being draws, and MMH clearly winning a few rounds (it's been a year or so since I watched it all more closely and sort of kept score).
