When Thomas Lang does any clinic, they should always put a camera behind to show his incredible footwork. Amazing!

There are only a handful of drummers in the world who can even come close to matching this guy in the footwork department.

The internet is filled with opinions about who the "Best" drummer is (or was). Rich, Peart, Portnoy, Mangini, Phillips, Carey, Bonham, Weckl, Colaiuta, etc...While all these guys (and some gals) are (or were) great, if I HAD to pick one, it would be Thomas Lang. He, pretty much, has it all. Strength, speed, finesse, independence, dynamics, and some incredible stick tricks too! And his ostinatos are off the chart! There are lots of KZbin drummers who do pretty good impressions of many of the famous drummers I listed, but I have yet to see one come close to playing like Thomas Lang. If there is, let me know.....

Well said, he definitely has incredible chops. Marco Minnemann has a similar style, very impressive too.

Pro fusion drummer here - Great comment - you appreciate more advanced techniques - many don't understand the skill levels, dedication, & creativity to do this caliber of drumming. For a 'best all-around soloist' T. Lang is my #2 - there is a drummer I found on YT by accident about 18 yrs ago who's beyond T. Lang (well, everybody) - look up 'Amazing Drum Solo' by Dylan Elise - 16 yrs. old at Tauranga National Jazz Festival, New Zealand - this particular solo is the best I've ever seen by a long shot - the speed, technique, stick/brush control, versatility, global creativity - total mastery & harmony with the instrument - it's beyond words - all the drummers you listed are great, but Dylan's on another level, especially for this particular solo - watch it & be amazed - - For drummers in touring groups, best-all-around - imo - D. Weckl's #1 for jazz fusion/latin jazz - J. Porcaro for pop/rock - N. Peart for prog/jazz rock - J. Morello/L. Bellson for jazz/swing jazz - Tony Royster Jr. for hip hop/r&b - F. Beard for blues rock/Texas shuffle - T. Yeung for speed metal/thrash - - for most recorded drummer - easily goes to J. Porcaro - besides Toto, he performed/recorded with everyone from the 1970's thru early 90's - some of the most famous rhythms in music history (also, V. Colaiuta - one of the most recorded session drummers/touring performers in history in many genres - from jazz fusion to hard rock - he's done it all for nearly 50 yrs - very few have done that)

@@davparksoh Dylan Elise is amazing and definitely up there with Thomas Lang, but I still prefer TL. TL's playing, IMHO, is more fluid, musical, and effortless, while Dylan works up quite a sweat. I also think TL's ostinatos are much better. Regardless, they are both light years ahead of me!
