Dang it, I got half way through before I broke down. My Dad was never there for me. He left us when I was 5. I’ve always felt empty, having this void that can never be filled. But as I listened to this I didn’t think about that as much as I thought about the Dad I’ve become regardless of his absence. I Thank God everyday I was blessed with my children and being able to be the Father I never had.

@@FK-oz8kl the crazy thing is my Dad now has mental health issues. I’m out about $12k in bills and lawyer fees to get guardianship and conservatorship over my Dad. He was about to lose his house, and be another mentally ill Veteran on the streets. Luckily he worked for the govt and had money. I’ve cleared the 3 liens on his home, credit cards in collections, and had his power and water restored in his home. So now I’ve had to be there for the Father who was never there for me. Funny world. In June 2020 my Brother killed himself and his Daughter. Who was the same age as my Daughter. I had to clean up his house. Packed all his stuff. Set up his cremation. My Family didn’t or couldn’t help. My Mom dove back to alcoholism, my Dad deeper into mental illness. If it wasn’t for my faith, my Wife and kids I’m not sure how I could have done it. Thank you for your kind words. God Bless you and your family.

@@addieonline4097 yeah my Mom remarried when I was 10. My Step Dad was a good guy but already raised his kids and didn’t want to raise more, so we spent several years avoiding each other. A lot of it I didn’t help. I was angry, hurt, and rebelling. It wasn’t until I was in my mid 20s we got closer and became really close as the years went on. Looking back he didn’t really actively teach me much, but I learned my honesty, character, and work ethic from him. Which has helped me a lot in life. I still have that void. The pain. The wounds that never healed. Keeping healing. Talk about it, how you feel, and learn about how that experience affects the things you do so you can help spot the trauma and negative affects it has on how you do, what you do

My father left me with my promiscuous mom when I was 5. I don’t blame him for leaving. I wish he would’ve took me with him, but he probably doubted I was his kid. I don’t blame him. Fast forward 30 years without a word, he finds me in jail facing 25 years. We talk through the glass and he has tears in his eyes and apologizes to me for letting me down. He writes me and continues to visit me as I go through trial. In the end, I am vindicated of my charges. I get out and catch up for time lost with my dad…2 years go by with us spending time together and one day I get a call on the phone that my dad shot himself in the head and died. I can’t explain the pain I felt and the anger I had. After a few years passed, I realized how grateful i felt having my dad in my life, even if it was just for a short time. I am a dad of 4 girls and I’d never put my daughters through life like this. This experience was actually a turning point in my life and I’m glad I was able to learn from it. I feel my dad taught me something after all. I sure do miss him.

What a beautiful and clever approach to this song! My dad died 6 1/2 years ago, 1 week after coming back from a trip to Europe. Blame the stupid very unexpected brain hemorrhage on Father's Day. Our last silly conversation a few days before was our last conversation. Make sure to end conversations positive, you never know if that one conversation will become a memory.

I'm so sorry to my dad for all the times, I have argued with him or made him mad. I've always known he's the only one I'll ever have. Sometimes, I don't think about what I do. I'm so sorry to all those who have lost their father. Dad, if you see this, I promise to try to be better and do my best to listen to what you tell me... I'm sorry.

Wow this is the first time I have ever heard this song and it's Xmas morning have my 3yo cuddled up in my arm rn listening to dad and daughter songs. And she doesn't even know yet about how much I truly love her even though I tell her multiple times a day. But she will remember all these little things that we do together. My father committed suicide in front of me when I was 13. And that's something that I can't and won't ever get over. There will always be that cloud that follows me because of that. But I know I'll never do to Onyx my daughter what he did to us.. me and my brother mom and GPA. I will always try to be a better dad then he was. Till next time toodles ya'll be safe and don't miss out on any opportunities that you have with your kid's.
