During Robert Bork's nomination to the Supreme Court under Reagan.
" In the course of any given year, Congress votes on taxes, medical care, military spending, foreign aid, agriculture, labor, international trade, airlines, housing, insurance, courts, natural resources, and much more. There are professionals who have spent their entire adult lives specializing in just one of these fields. They idea that Congress [or the American voter] can be competent in all these areas simultaneously is staggering." - Sowell
"Compared to what? At what cost? What hard evidence do you have?" -Thomas Sowell

Better yet a supreme Court Justice. They have more power inside the country than the president because of life terms and laws. President is more important when considering outside the country like dealing with our enemies and allies. The congress is the only power that can do both but they seem to always be on vacation until election comes around again.

In the Bible it says that when God wants to punish a man, he takes away his mind. God has punished Sleepy Joe long ago. I want Mr. Sowell to take his mind intact to heavens above, that man will be imperative to existence even after this life. Joe is over there rubbing Zelensky's back, not very..."presidently" lol, unless we are talking about Bill Clinton, then he is holding that standard.

Thomas Sowell said on NPR some 30+ years ago "the increasing number of lawyers who occupy federal positions, especially in Congress, and more specifically - in the Democrat Party - is a serious concern - -or it should be -- to the American people about the future of a self-governing Nation." He went on to say "I can envision a scenario where lawyers, posed as politicians, can - one day - tell American voters that their votes were not proper or legal, and telling them, instead, how their votes SHOULD have been counted, based on outcome expectations." This is EXACTLY where we are today, in America!

Thing is, figures often do NOT say what he says they do. He's certainly right sometimes. But Sowell is wrong a hell of a lot of times, too. The difference here is that one is asking questions for clarity, and the other is providing answers for clarity. I think we say this is a good faith effort on both of their parts. That this feels like a "difference" in objectivity...please. Sowell is NOT an objective participant in political issues. His professional work is chock full of speculative positions that are highly partisan not because of "figures" and objectivity, but because he espouses conservative values, and tries to translate conservative values into pragmatic, statistical analysis. There's nothing wrong with this, but let's not mistake it for objectivity. He's a showman just like Chomsky and other hyper political intellectuals.
@iridescentsquids
@iridescentsquids 3 жыл бұрын
@Mateo Montoya Sounds about right. Objectivity takes effort. Politics disguised as objectivity is often just another political game. You got the right idea now lets just be honest about it.

How long was Mary Jo Kopechne alive after the car flipped? Kopechne likely did not die instantaneously, but her final moments remain a mystery. When John Farrar, a diver for the local fire department, found Kopechne’s body the morning after the crash, its positioning suggested she had remained alive for an unknown period of time after the car went underwater. Her face was pressed into the footwell, and her hands gripped the back of the front seat, as if she had been trying to push her head into a pocket of air.

@@orion8921 TED CHAPPAQUIDDICK - - How long was Mary Jo Kopechne alive after the car flipped? Kopechne likely did not die instantaneously, but her final moments remain a mystery. When John Farrar, a diver for the local fire department, found Kopechne’s body the morning after the crash, its positioning suggested she had remained alive for an unknown period of time after the car went underwater. Her face was pressed into the footwell, and her hands gripped the back of the front seat, as if she had been trying to push her head into a pocket of air.

This is one of the most racist comments on this video, no matter what explanation you give for this despicable comment. It implies you're calling Sowell "not black" because he's a smart thinker as though smartness is an exclusive preserve of non-black ethnicities. I'm offended by your comment and you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
@danvillalba2497
@danvillalba2497 4 жыл бұрын
This comment relates to an interview where Biden said “you ain’t black” if you have to choose between voting for him or President Trump. The only thing racist and despicable here is Biden’s comment, implying that any black American who would vote Republican somehow loses their racial identity. According to Biden (not myself, and I’m amazed that you could input this opinion on me from the comment) is that Sowell isn’t truly black people he is a free thinker who doesn’t adhere to the lies continually being perpetuated to keep black Americans in poverty and in reliance of the government.
@rolandmotari

@@danvillalba2497 You're full of bullshit. Sowell's speech was completely unrelated to voting Trump or Biden. You're a race-baiting bigot and deep down you have no true sense of moral decorum. You're again using racist innuendos to denigrate people of color. As if your insinuation wasn't terrible enough you have just again insulted people of color by stating that only conservative blacks are free thinkers and those with a left leaning liberal political ideology are like sheep. And that is simply because you're conservative and therefore must exhibit all your biases by publicly denigrating a whole ethnic group. Can't you see how insulting that is? My comment was never in defense of Joe Biden, I'm staunchly conservative, prolly even more than you, but your comments and thinking is utterly despicable. The fundamental reason blacks are the underdogs in American society is because they're the minority here with a protracted history of exclusion. Other reasons abound as well, but they're more or less symptoms of the disease.

Mr Sowell's level of intellect so far surpasses Joe's -- how is it that he would be at the big table making a decision like this while Mr Sowell argues for the nominee with facts and figures. Joe looked so confused,.....and still does. This statement really struck me "Legal principals are not just abstract intellectual matters. They are often far more important to far more people than the specific issues that provoke single issue organizations to venom and propaganda."

It’s amazing how much insight this man has and we see the negative effects of these programs as Harvard is DELIBERATELY discriminating against Asians and requiring a lower GPA and SAT for black students which detrimentally affects the black community as he alluded to where Blacks were at the bottom 10% at these schools.
