But that's club football. The whole idea of national team competition is that you can only draw from the pool of talent from within your own country. And the manager is such an essential part to a team's success, especially nowadays, that to hire a foreign manager to give you success is like signing foreign players for your national team. It's basically cheating and should be disallowed. And for a great footballing nation like England to consider doing this, after already having done it in the past, is frankly embarrassing. If you don't have great managers in your country, you can't win the world cup, tough luck. Just like when you don't have a great striker or a great defense.

But if those were the rules it would put many smaller nations who predominantly have foreign managers at a huge disadvantage. But again maybe your opinion on that is just "tough luck" too. Is it embarrassing that England need to look abroad for an elite manager...yes it is. Do England fans know that...yes they do. But given this is the situation, and its also embarrassing we haven't won a major tournament in 60 years, I will take any win with any coach. Interesting fact though I don't think anyone has won a world cup with a foreign manager.

The French National team has been managed by foreigners 3 times, Sid Kimpton, Jose Arribas and Stefan Kovacs. That they had little success is not blemish against them. Poch is a great choice for USMNT because who are the good American options? His point about coaches from one country coaching another country applies to “big” football nations…a French coach coaching Saudia Arabia or Georgia is not the same as a French coach coaching a big footballing nation like Spain or Germany (which is a moot point, as those countries develop good coaches). The problem in England is they lack good coaches.

It's not beneath England to appoint a foreign coach. They've done it twice before and whilst they weren't successful it wasn't because they were foreign either (although it wouldve been better if Capello knew how to speak English!). England once approached Sir Alex Ferguson for the job and being a Scot, that's probably as controversial as going for a German. And for a few years fans when debating who should be the next manager, Wenger and Mourninho would come up a lot. Maybe appointing a German is a bit too far, I dont know but I think the modern English fan is more tolerant of a foreign coach than ever before.

One of the great things about football is that every nation has a different style, therefore I always thought that the coach by rule should have to be from the nation he’s coaching. When I watch X nation I want to see X nation football style. After all, the coach is probably the one most important person on the team. I understand this will put some nations at a disadvantage, but it also incentivizes nations to develop coaches.

Well, he could ve went the positive route and highlight the great opportunity for the young guys etc. Tuchels glas is mostly half empty. A coach should always consider what could go wrong in a game, but you also need to know when it s fine and be optimistic. „That could work out great for us“ is not Thomas Tuchel as a coach England fans would hate his guts a their coach

the problem is tuchel is a coach who is extremely stubborn, he isnt mostly wrong about the weaknesses of a club but he opts the wrong way to deal with it. I believe he will have much more flexibility to deal with weaknesses and strength as he can drop and call up his favourite players as he would like. Trust me, he made dier a world class CB at Bayern in a short span of 4 months, he can do that at England as well.

Add gomez and England all of a sudden have their own version of xavi,inesta and busquets . Replace stones with rice in defence . rice started his career there. Ex players have said he has the makings of a top class centre back . Replace pickford with pope and they have a decent keeper . As for their forwards and wingers . Take your pick from foden, madison, palmer, watkins, kane , solanke, rogers, eze, saka, mikey moore,palmer,foden,bellingham , philogene,elliot,. Their list of potential great attackers is endless. Make all those adjustments and they will be really hard to beat at the next world cup . I am not even English but its clear to see that they truly have a golden generation on the horizon .
