I'm not sure if HMB was just a newer supplement when this video was made, or if the price came down dramatically, but it seems like with bulk supplements, leucine is significantly more expensive. HMB is 300 capsules/ 150 servings at 1g for $22, vs leucine 300 capsules is 30 servings, for $20, but the serving is 5g. What would you recommend, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Excellent video Thomas. Obviously this isn’t something that you can take when you’re fasting because it will spike your insulin and break your fast. But as a carpenter he takes wear and tear on the body. I would recommend taking this in the morning before you start work or at least by lunch. Catabolism in the muscle and maybe take two more grams before a workout. It’s all about the Preservation of muscle. When you’re not benefiting from the elevated human growth hormone from fasting. It is so bad that I am continuing my TRT from sources off the net. Plus they said that there was an increase in testosterone.from taking the two together. I had been taking them for a couple of years before I read that and it seamed like it was true to me. I was able to get better progress with them. I'm 73 years old now and you need all the help you can get at that age. Both work separately gwit well but combined it was magic. Not using technical names just knowing A1 A2 B1 B2 B3. This will help you to how to get to your goal. You can target them better. Also there are different systems to achieve the objective you want. Your muscles have a mind of thier own you can make them do what you want if you train them like a dog to behave, and they will obey. PS. There are percentages involved here as well like 30 to 40% targets the A muscles. Say you can lift a 100 lbs, then 30 to 40 pounds would hit these muscles with at least 20 to 30 reps. for one to to two sets. The B muscles would be 70 to 80%. The high B brut strength ones would be 85 to 90%. These all take time to work up to. Healing time can be different for each one and there is different reps as well, including sets. I have been taking HMB for 3 weeks, before even watching this video (crazy how this came up on my youtube feed? lol) and i take 1G (1 scoop) of HMB every morning, to go along with my morning shake. I mixed it with whey protein (or half serving of weight gainer), cistanche, and pine pollen powder. Mind you i did change my diet a bit too. I went from 4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day to just 1. I eliminated a lot of the snacks/chocolate i was eating throughout the day and my lunch strictly consists of chicken, kale/spinach, and potatoes (i'm getting tired of the same lunch LOL). 3 weeks later i can absolutely see improvements on energy levels, recovery, and strength when i workout. I find myself lifting the weights much easier, not getting fatigued midway or losing focus etc. When back in the day it felt like the same weight i was doing, i couldn't even do, even though some days i could. Some days i just couldn't. There was no consistency. So i won't say HMB is the magic formula as i changed a lot of other things to see improvements. For 20 bucks on amazon, and 250 servings, HMB is worth trying.

@@carterhayes4624 I didn't cut all junk food out, i would say more than half though. Before i would eat cookies or a donut and coffee mid morning breakfast but it's replaced by a protein/fruit smoothie. Then for lunch i have the chicken (or salmon) with kale.spinach and potatoes. Then mid afternoon snack i would do the same thing, either chips or cookies/donut and another cup of coffee. Now that's replaced by a whey isolate protein shake. I get home from work and have decaf cup of coffee when before EVERYTHING was caffeinated coffee. Then for dinner will be whatever i can make or find. So it's not a perfect diet but i did make some improvements. With those improvements i noticed more energy throughout the day and i just feel better. I'm sure if i went on a strict ZERO junk food diet i would feel even more amazing but i'm not trying to do all that because while it's good to start eating a bit healthier, i am trying to bulk so i need calories.

I have supplemented HMB-ca for over 8 years now. I don't like the fact that you don't get into a tldr for people who don't understand you. The basics of HMB is that it's a leucine metabolite used to prevent catabolism, it does not promote anabolism, it's used in muscle wasting diseases and those on chemo, and also in livestock. It has minimal to no effect in all moderately trained individuals. The only use it would have in trained individuals is for cuts/caloric deficits which require preventing going catabolic, the same reason I use it. It's not recommended for anyone or anything tbh. I have only been taking HMB for about 3 months. All my gains have come recently. Best shape (muscle wise) of my life and I have been an (amateur after college) athlete all my life. The HMB extends the duration of muscle density for people my age. This and H I I T has changed my physique. Cheers!

@@Dr.MikeGranato To me it kinda is: Overeat and train: Gain muscle and fat. Undereat and train: Lose muscle and fat. So if I lost weight vs if I gained weight I'd assume that would affect my strength. Now if it's just 1 kg difference over a month then maybe not. Hmb + creatine can help, but in no way compared to even low dose test. Hmb has been around since 90s and prices come down significantly. But leucine is cheaper, however to leucine can spike insulin if you need to be low insulin hmb better than leucine . Hmb pretty mild on the body like creatine and best when these 2 are combined, but you need do research and find a manufacturer that has independent inspection and proof the product is what claims it is . as supplements have no regulation in u.s. and can put saw dust in it and sell you it , you have no right to know. Many times if you have digestive problems with creatine, protein powders etc it's because the product is filled with unregulated filler garbage.

If one is worried about insulin spiking, taking the leucine with a complete protein, or some fat, should slow down and regulate/smooth out that process more.

When it comes to enhancing muscle growth, incorporating supplements like HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate) can be beneficial. However, it's important to remember that supplements should never replace a proper diet and exercise regimen. Look for supplements that include ingredients like creatine, protein, and beta-alanine, as they have shown potential in aiding muscle growth and recovery. Always keep in mind that supplements should be used to complement your training and diet, rather than serving as a complete replacement:kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5_Sn3eun66Ahq8

I'd be more interested in the effect without training. All these studies are about increase in strength while excercising and then even try to compare it to steroids is kinda a joke. Steroids are so strong, that you build muscle and burn fat, while literally sitting on your ass. You don't need to do anything to get big and lean, as long as you don't spontaneously double your calorie intake. How would HMB perform on a person, that isn't experienced in training and also doesn't start working out after taking it? We know that even creatine pumps the existing muscles full of water, so you look a bit better, even without training, because your muscles get fuller, even if no actual muscle-fibers get added. Does HMB have any effect with no training at all?

While I will not make any claims of benefits to all users, I can say with certainty that the effect while consuming HMB regularly (I started with it in the 90s) is clearly noticeable for me specifically. I tried taking Leucine for some time alternately and honestly did not notice the same level of benefit but would not say it's impossible. Recovery and soreness if you really are pushing is somewhat muted for me on HMB and bounceback is far superior to any other supplement that I've tried. Having taken it through a few injuries I also felt that I healed faster but that admittedly is purely anecdotal and could be the placebo effect in action but would at least be consistent with the muscle repair speed it seemed to aid. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it'd rival something like steroids and similar, but I would not opt to take those things due to their significant negatives which I've neither realized nor seen referenced in regards to studies for HMB.
@Accidic2 жыл бұрын
Also, considering a 1.5-2g dose (most studies are done at 3g dose) was over $1.50 a dose in the late 90s (though $0.50-$0.60/dose was achievable (perhaps foolishly) if you procured it as many did as it was first being realized), you can easily find pure (human) food grade HMB in the vicinity of $30/lb or less. That's approximately $0.20/dose for 3g. I easily spend that much on iodine sources alone as I do not live near the coast and hate eggs. I'm also certainly not going to stress over $0.20-$0.50/day when I'm seeking out a $5-10 cut of meat (single portion) for a single meal.

CK is a waste byproduct of muscle and creatine metabolism. As a result, those who lift, who are more muscular, consume creatine and more protein will have more CK in their blood. Thomas, what can I do to help my skinny teenager to gain muscle... I cant find good videos in this subject for teens. I am worried. Thank you!
@gman212662 жыл бұрын
I am 57 now. And I'm still a small guy. But as a teenager I was VERY skinny. My frame has always been very small boned. Most thin women have larger wrist than I do. My mom and dad were brutal and had me doing extremely heavy physical work for long periods. And I was lucky to ever get a good nights sleep in all of my high school days. My teen life was work work work go go go. I ate a lot of food. But never gained weight. However... I also consumed a LOT of sugar. And I NEVER drank water. I was strong as hell. Much stronger than kids 50 pounds larger than myself. Never hit a gym but I threw 200 pound logs all day like they were toys. And I was ripped as hell. But still skinny. (I eventually went on to become a US Army Airborne Ranger at 140 pounds). But I was always really skinny as a kid. I was 5 feet 9 inches when I graduated high school. 112 pounds. So here is my advice: 1 -- Is your teenager too skinny? Or just thin boned? If they are very thin boned - then focus on building up muscle with more protein, less carbs, grinding workouts with good recovery times, and all the sleep they want - but only at night. 2 -- Are they eating enough good calories? And if so, are they negating it with junk food and sugars? Don't let them know you are monitoring what they eat. Just watch closely for a while and then make your best guess. 3 -- Is it possible they have a vitamin or mineral deficiency? Consider doing a blood test to make sure. Possibly twice. 4 -- Most importantly --- Talk to your kid, Show love and concern and understanding. Let them know you understand that they may not like the way they look, or the way other kids treat them. But also let them know that you believe in them, you are confident in them, and explain to them that there is really no reason for them to ever feel insecure. THEN!!! 5 -- Get involved with them - to improve BOTH of you. Diet, gym, lifestyle. etc. And KNOW that you will be doing BOTH of you a great thing. :)

If you can afford to take about 9-10grams a day, then the stuff does actually work pretty good. Decreases muscle soreness big time, more energy, fat loss: but I think that has to do more with increased muscle mass. Reduced joint soreness. Slightly increased strength, but again I think has to do with some increase in muscle mass. Biggest thing was endurance for me. Very noticeable endurance increase after about 2 weeks. I did this for 2 months. Workout days:3g in morning, 2g before workout, 2g after, 3g at bedtime. Off days: 3g, spaced out AM, Afternoon, PM. I was 205, probably 15%BF, dropped to 193ish at around 8-10% BF. With thighs and arms about a half inch bigger. I personally had no stomach discomfort, which some people do. If the stuff were cheaper, I’d definitely use it. I just don’t think the results are worth the money you spend.

@@aphexish No problems, you just don’t continue to see the benefits. Having said that, once you increase your muscle cell size(hypertrophy) that cell remains stretched out. So, when you lose some of the muscle size you gained while taking any supplement really, you are able to gain most of it back. Basically it all depends on what your goals are. The stuff does work, but unless your body is very good at absorbing and utilizing it, you’ll just need a lot more than the dosage on the bottle. I didn’t see any negatives except for the cost. Biggest thing I noticed after stop using it for about a week was the return of muscle soreness.

The Jacob Wilson studies were held in very poor regard, to put it diplomatically. There's a lot of talk about what happened there. I wasn't there so I can't say that it's true. I don't think Wilson works for the University of Tampa anymore, FWIW.

I used once HMB back in the days when going for losing fat, i fasted 16 hours every day and training on the gym 4 times a week and also daily hour walks. Dont really know how much it really helped my Journey but i did get the results i wanted so thats that

Im literally doing the exact same thing as you - but fasting for 20 hours a day. How did the results look after a couple of months?

HMB was a hyped thing when I started training around 2004. When alot of studies showed it was not worth the money compared to leucine it dissappeared. Im starting to see alot of ineffective supplements making a return now like ecdysterone, tribulus etc.
@dapapaful2 жыл бұрын
Why ecdysterone?
@borgir832 жыл бұрын
@@dapapaful Probably because in a study on ants it had great anabolic response. Since its a plant sterol and works on bugs, it was marketed as anabolic in humans. It probably is, but in those doses you have to take it, you probably die of the fillers used in the capsules :-).

I've taken Ecdysterone and I've gained strength and muscle. Not insane buff but good muscle. Just ordered 2 bottles gonna start again stack it with laxogenin.

Any suggestions for what I should take?
@borgir832 жыл бұрын
@@lunard8690 Eat alot of protein rich food and take a shake with hydrowhey and added creatine and maltodextrine before and after training. That will take you far. I have tried ALOT of supplements, some good, some bad. But in hindsight alot of them are not worth the money. I also added glutamine to my shakes. Cant say if its neccesary thou, but at least its cheap. Then its good to take a multivitamin. A PWO can be a great booster sometimes. Beta alanine is great for endurance, but most people take it in too small doses. It has to be taken for a month, three to four times a day in 2-3 gram doses. After that a maintenance dose of 1 grams twice a day is enough.

I’ve experimented with HMB and I’ve had the best results with it in comparison to other supplements alone.
@qwertyqwertyqwerty43242 жыл бұрын
better than creatine?
@tripinvest81602 жыл бұрын
@@qwertyqwertyqwerty4324 Yes. As soon as you stop using creatine, size and strength drops. But, with HMB, body mass can be maintained longer as well as strength. Between the two, HMB actually contributes to the building of new muscle tissue rather than an artificial pump with creatine, but I do like the strength boost with creatine…Both in conjunction would be ideal for gains imo.

In my youth I mixed HMB in caps with a machine, working out 4-5/week and doing both construction and lumberjacking I was dosing lots of creatine monohydrate, HMB and EAA daily with a decent diet on 2500-3500 kcal and my strength/energy was unmatched

I train for triathlon (half Ironman distances) and I have been trying HMB for almost one month now. What I can say is my recovery does seem to be a bit better / faster. Is this the magic end all supplement, no, but it does seem to help with proper recovery. I am also starting to see slight gains in cycling (speed / endurance). I will continue to take for now and possibly follow up with an additional comment with more info.

@constantintrudel3756 Жыл бұрын
@@Chronx100 I actually ended up taking a mixed creatine and HMB. I Cycle on and off since, and it seems to do the job. As I train a good amount for Triathlon (5-10 hrs a week), I am definitely seeing results, but it's hard for me to evaluate and say it's the mix that is making the difference. What I can say, is my recovery is pretty good compared to without. That allows me to perform better during training and the circle continues. I will say though, it's not magic. Taking this doesn't magically decrease fat. Diet is still the key in that race.

None of these studies ever delve into the genetic differences between experiment subjects. Some people methylate different things differently. Some people respond differently metabolically to different substances at different times of the day. People more epigenetically susceptible to insulin insensitivity, people who have more or less myostatin, people with more fast twitch or slow twitch muscle fiber ratios…et cetera, on and on. Supplements are going to work with different efficacy on different people. I can say this for my experience. 50 year old caucasian of mostly Irish descent. 6’2”, 215lbs, always have had a propensity towards an endomorphic but overall slim build (skinnyfat). I noticed in my late 40s, like most of us that age, that my muscle tissue was atrophying regardless of diet. I have started resistance training as a necessity for metabolism preservation vis-a-vis testosterone maintenance. I have also used a technique for stimulating HGH production to that end. Here is what I do: 1. 3-4 days at a time of no carb eating, light carbs at the end of the day here and there on other days so my body remembers how to handle them. One or two days a week, I don’t eat anything until I’ve been awake about 8 hours. I mix it up. 2. 30/30/30 fat loss method; Most days of the week, I eat 5 eggs within 30 minutes after waking and immediately go do 30 minutes of light cardio (
