Grass fed beef and whole cheese without additives is good. Whole cheese is in blocks. Shredded cheeses often contain artificial additives to prevent the grated pieces from sticking to each other. I like whole fat dairy, especially unsweetened Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. But low fat and nonfat dairy have far to much sugar and artificial additives. Or you can use half and half in your coffee.

I have read labels and steered clear of processed foods and grains for 40 years now, but was on the whole grains are good train. I have gotten nauseous from animal fats since I was a child, so high dairy and eggs have been my thing. I also get sick from high sugar, especially when combined with flour and fat. Now I find out I have this rs5082 CC/GG abnormality at the ApoA2 gene that increases obesity with high saturated fats and consequently MAY affect cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk. I started taking K2 MK-7 60mcg and my A1c dropped from 5.4 to 5.0 and has stayed there for over a year. Don't know why. I am not an LMHR. Switched to avocado oil a few years ago and substituted soy milk for cow milk for my morning coffee. Never low fat anything as I am satisfied with 1/2 cup full dairy but 1-2 cups low fat doesn't do it. Anyways, apparently not enough research on this gene abnormality, but it leads me to believe I should lower saturated fat intake. Just started low carb diet at 100g or less to start, but very curious if I will finally be able to lose weight and improve triglycerides with this.

**Key Takeaways: The Most Promising Foods for Insulin Resistance in 2025** ### **1. Context Matters: Meat and Cheese Are Not Inherently Problematic** The assumption that meat and cheese cause insulin resistance is flawed. The real culprits are often hyper-palatable processed foods (e.g., refined starches, sugars) paired with these foods. Insulin resistance arises from poor dietary combinations, not wholesome animal products alone. --- ### **2. Dairy: Quality and Type Are Critical** - **Insulinogenic Nature of Dairy**: Whey protein in dairy (e.g., milk, yogurt) spikes insulin, but glucagon counterbalances this effect. Aged cheeses (parmesan, pecorino Romano, Swiss) and goat/feta cheeses are better choices due to lower whey content. - **Saturated Fat Moderation**: Saturated fat from dairy isn’t harmful in moderation but becomes problematic when overconsumed or paired with sugar. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado oil) slightly outperform saturated fats for insulin sensitivity. - **Avoid High-Sugar Dairy**: Sweetened yogurts, flavored milk, and processed dairy products exacerbate insulin resistance. --- ### **3. Meat: Prioritize CLA-Rich and Lean Options** - **Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)**: Found in grass-fed beef, lamb, venison, and game meats, CLA enhances insulin sensitivity by upregulating GLUT4 and PPARγ (genes linked to glucose uptake). Lean cuts (filet, flank steak) balance protein intake without excess calories. - **Protein + Exercise Synergy**: High-protein diets combined with exercise reduce inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity more than exercise alone. --- ### **4. Fatty Fish and Omega-3s: A Dual Benefit** Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel) rich in omega-3s improve insulin sensitivity by reducing inflammation. Omega-3 supplements (e.g., fish oil, cod liver oil) offer similar benefits for non-fish eaters. --- ### **5. Practical Food Recommendations** - **Dairy**: Aged cheeses (Brie, blue cheese), heavy cream (low insulin response), unsweetened Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese. - **Meat**: Venison, lamb, lean beef, and game meats for CLA; fatty fish for omega-3s. - **Fats**: Prioritize monounsaturated fats (avocado, olive oil) but don’t fear moderate saturated fat from quality sources. --- ### **6. Avoid Overconsumption and Processed Foods** Caloric excess and processed foods drive insulin resistance. Even healthy foods like cheese can be harmful in excess due to inflammation from overeating. --- ### **Conclusion: A Balanced, Context-Driven Approach** The fight against insulin resistance in 2025 hinges on food quality, not just macronutrient categories. Key strategies include: - Choosing **aged cheeses** and **CLA-rich meats** to leverage metabolic benefits. - Incorporating **omega-3s** from fish or supplements. - Avoiding processed foods and moderating saturated fat intake. - Pairing protein with exercise for amplified insulin sensitivity improvements. By focusing on nutrient-dense, minimally processed animal products and mindful eating habits, individuals can optimize metabolic health without demonizing entire food groups. The future of insulin resistance management lies in precision-understanding *what* to eat, *how much*, and *in what context*.

Thomas, is there real factual literature stating that too much red meat can cause cancer specifically colon cancer? I was eating eggs and beef daily and now I don't know if I should eat red meat every day
@leemanwrong14 сағат бұрын
Nope there is no cause and effect data for meat and cancer. Meat being carcinogenic is merely the opinion of the WHO with no science to back it up.

Basically all cheese has the whey separated out of it as a and is almost entirely casein. That's what primarily supplies the whey protein industry. The fact that he just listed ones less common than cheddar gives me super "secret knowledge" charlatan vibes...just eat hard cheese if you want to avoid whey. Also, whey has (or stimulates) glutathione, the body's master antioxidant, and he's promoted the benefits of that many times. Whey is very good. Casein was demonized like gluten not long ago. I want to believe Thomas is trying to help his audience, but content like his is a primary cause of the mass confusion on the subject. Truth is, your conscience knows when you're eating poorly. People just want to rationalize or biohack their way out of it. "Eat whole foods in moderation" is the only advice people need, and they can gague how much deviation their body can tolerate from there.

Too much meat and dairy fat MIGHT lead to an increase of LDL cholesterol (even without too much calorie intake), one thing to watch out for...
@leemanwrong14 сағат бұрын
LDL is of no concern, it’s under the control of our genes so whatever the level is that’s exactly what it’s supposed to be.

People with low stomach acid can't do carnivore.. Meat only isn't sustainable anyway.. That protocol just isn't for everyone... I wish the meat gurus would stress that...
@leemanwrong14 сағат бұрын
I’ve done nothing but meat for four years it’s very sustainable. Shawn Baker would be the first to say not everyone needs to do it but for those who are sick it can help them heal.

I love pasta. Give me pasta and I’m Fat and happy, but not that healthy, Until I discovered carnivore, learnt about carbs and insulin. Now I’m slim, eat shed loads of cheese and meat. Loads of consistent energy. And once a month some pizza and red wine. This week I’m on cheese and cream only. soooo good. Adding cream stops me from over eating.

Kangaroo tastes closer to venison
@PhilosoFox19 сағат бұрын
True. It’s colored similarly to venison as well and tastes great, but more difficult to cook in a pan. Just use a grill and get some experience for it often felt like taming some bouncy gum… It’s dirt cheap in Australia as well, for it’s widely regarded as dog food and -surprise, surprise - the actual dog food had the very same color😜. Just treasure it as widely under appreciated super food like I did
