*Cut muster* "mustered" is new and older term is muster. "Possibly derived from the idiom 'to pass muster', an expression for assembling military troops for inspection. A troop who has achieved excellent performance in, for example, a room inspection, is allowed to skip, or "cut" having to stand a formal muster or formation and go on liberty early, etc. It may possibly also refer to the idea of 'making the cut of those who are mustered', or being seen as a good example of what is on show. Usage evidence does not support this derivation."

Glad to find you. My wife and I are in our 60s so we were raised filing paper copies ad infinitum. We are endlessly drowning in papers, so converting to digital is our next goal. Thanks for being interesting. Other videos I watched on filing systems were about as interesting as watching a bowl of dust.
@karenrich90925 жыл бұрын
You discussed digitizing your papers. I have found it is a great idea to digitize an important historical document for some of us -- the high school yearbook. You can scan all the pages (and covers) of your yearbooks and save them on a flash drive. I currently preserve the history of a high school in Martinez, California and have scanned 95 volumes covering from 1909 to 2014. I also scan the pictures from family albums, various papers I've collected, and my scanner allows me to scan photo slides. It is amazing to realize that you could have your entire history collection stored on flash drives that would fit in your pocket! I enjoy a lot of your videos on KZbin. Thanks.

Thanks, I found that your system is great as I am always looking at improving my system. Just wanted to share my experience : 1. A physical fire proof file box for extremely important papers is an essential component. Like original certificates and Will etc. 2. Filing in a categorical system such as car, home, work contract, etc.. is easier than alphabetical. 3. A space for receipts and warranties has easily saved me the money and huge headaches. 4. I struggle with digitising because time is needed to name the file to efficiently retrieve it in future - but I like your system and thinking of ways to adapt it. Scan bot on this end of the world charges a subscription and so I use cam scanner. 5. Being ruthless with shredding important papers and cards is best done as Mail is picked up. Otherwise it can become overwhelming. I really enjoy your productivity optimisation strategies. Thank you again and I look forward to more of your amazing content.

Great video. I am also a digitization enthusiast, storing quite a lot of stuff with cloud services. One thing to consider though are the problems coming with having everything online. Besides privacy issues, having everything in easily accessible, online locations also creates a carbon footprint through the energy used to create and maintain the servers of the cloud. So, I personally think one has to decide what really needs to be "safe" in the cloud and what you can do with on an external drive.

RE: digitizing-- 1) computers can and do crash, and then you've lost everything. (And yes, this includes online or 'cloud' backups--they are, after all, merely on someone else's server/hard drive, and that is in turn, a computer that can crash, or even worse, get hacked. ) I keep everything in the original paper format. I go through annually, and shred papers with sensitive info that I no longer need, and dump the rest in the recycle bin. 2) receipts should be saved as hard copies. If you need to return something, the majority of stores want the original receipt, not a copy. They will scan the bar code, then CIRCLE the item that was being returned, and hand you back the receipt STAPLED to a new receipt acknowledging the return credit. Ditto for mail-in offers--the ORIGINAL receipt is required; copies are invalid.
