I start my landscape photography adventure just outside of Arches National Park, Utah as I hike towards Corona Arch. Unfortunately after a couple of hours of witing for the light, a crowd of photographers arrive and set up a picnic in the middle of my frame. How is best to deal with this situation? I then drive up to the La Sal Mountains with a group of friends and photograph the beautiful autumn colours on display.

Most people are fine about moving. I was catching a sunset over a loch and shouted for a paddle boarder to go further over to get a silhouette of her in the sun (in a polite way of course) she was more than happy to and asked for a copy of the shot. So ended up we both got something out of it

1) Funny that a group of photographers wouldn't have noticed you already set up. 2) If I'm waiting 2 hours for a shot I'm damn well asking them (very politely) to move for a few minutes so I can get it done lol.

Haha yeah I had a sunset shot all ready and another photographer put his tripod right on the beach about the same distance as those guys I was like ummm, so I moved coz I felt rude asking him to move 😖

Look at it from their perspective, they also just walked in from however far away, and are now captivated by the "absolutely stunning" scene before them. It's easy not to notice you're in someone else's shot especially when you can't really work out what they are framing up. A polite ask for a spare 5 minute to grab the pic is probably ok, but no one should ever have any expectation of privacy, or primacy, at these locations IMO. Add to that a photographer who is commoditizing to some degree their use of that space, and I'd say that puts them further back in line behind the regular old public for viewing privileges. That's not to say I would't also be super frustrated!

This is so British, I love it. Wait for 2hrs to take a shot and don't want to ask the people to move as they have the same right as you to be there. Then again, Thomas, you as much right as them to get a banging photograph. Us Brits are just too polite it gets awkward. Thank god you were with an American who just went for it!

Great Vlog as always Tom lad. Superb photos and the leaves shot in the water and in the snow showed why you are ahead of the game. Us normal human hobby photographers wouldn’t have the idea to look for things like that. What I also appreciated was how you dealt with the crowd at the Arch. For someone who I’ve subscribed with for a while, I’ve watched your career and popularity grow, but you as a person has stayed the same. Your courtesy, humility and almost shyness is a real credit to you buddy. Don’t change as your success continue to grow. Keep up the great vlogs you really are an inspiration to me. 📸👍

Haven't you learned from your lava field experience? Don't be afraid to ask nicely to get the shot! The worst thing they will do is say "no", end you end up in the same situation as if you had never asked. But 9 out of 10 times people will be nice and cooperate when you ask them to in a friendly manner. ;)
