I’ve watched and few of your dog food videos and loved them! My recipes for my dogs are very similar. I’ve been making it for a year now and it’s been excellent for my dogs! My oldest dog has lost weight and looks forward to eating now! My favorite way I found to save money on this is to buy whole turkeys on sale after thanksgiving. I was able to get them for $0.47 a pound in December and thankfully had the room in my freezer to stock up! I’m able to make a lot of meals from one turkey and then add the bones to my crockpot and make bone broth for them as well. My youngest dog won’t eat his food now without some bone broth on it. It has collagen in it and helps with their joints. I keep track of the cost of everything and I can make their meals for about $0.30 per serving! Yes it definitely does take time to make homemade dog food but it is absolutely worth it! Saving money is a bonus. Seeing my dogs thrive, get healthier, and watching my 12 year old dog turn back into a puppy again is worth every second I spend in the kitchen!! Wishing you all the best! Sable is beautiful!

Is your recipe like his? Would like to see your recipe also if different.
@hannah51619 ай бұрын
@@judymorlan8970 yes it is very similar but I add a few different things. I actually made a batch today. Whole turkey deboned, rice, canned pumpkin, dried pinto beans, dried black beans, oats, carrots, a can of mixed veggies, turmeric, black pepper. I baked the turkey and made the rice separate. Everything else went into my crockpots. I use two 8qt crock pots when I’m baking a whole turkey. Once everything is finished cooking I mix it all together and let the rice absorb the juice. Then put it in individual containers and freeze. Today was a simple recipe and I just used the things I had on hand. Other things I add are sweet potatoes, celery, split peas, eggs, lentils, liver. I’ve used ground turkey before but found the whole turkey saves me more money and I make bone broth too. I’ve also used whole chickens, chicken breasts, and chicken leg quarters(while these are cheap it is extremely time consuming to pick through to get every little bone). I try to swap out ingredients each time I make a batch so it’s not the exact same each time. My dog really enjoys that. I can’t stress enough what a difference I’ve seen in my dog since swapping to homemade!! He is a different dog now and plays like a puppy! I truly believe that the homemade dog food is going to prolong his life!

Research coconut oil and honey. Both very good for dogs. I alternate a beef and poultry menu. Ground beef, beef liver, spinach, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, brown rice, coconut oil, honey, tumeric,parsley Poultry: ground turkey, chicken liver and gizzards, one chicken breast, peas, carrots, sweet potatoe, brown rice, honey, tumeric, basil, broccoli stalks. The florets cause gas so I only use the stalks of broccoli and we have the florets for dinner. I will add pepper thank you for that tip. I also cook eggs for my dogs for breakfast every couple of days and I do give them a strip of bacon/sausage when we have them. Dogs in the wild will always go after the organs first of their catch as it is the healthiest part. You are a great dog dad.

I would suggest you cut back on the sweet potatoes, she’ll lose a bit of weight which will help relieve a bit of her joint pain. Not that she’s overweight, but when dogs are a bit heavier it puts a bit more strain on their joints. I use sweet potatoes and rice to put weight on my dogs that gain weight very slowly, and within 2 months or so with their exercise routine they tend to put on anywhere from 5-15lbs depending on the dog. I also cut it out for my dogs that are a bit older and the ones that are just naturally great weight gainers. I try to keep the pups and elderly dogs a bit lighter so that their joints aren’t stressed.

I got an Instant pot about a year ago and it's still in the box and haven't used it because I have never used one before and I didn't know that steam came out like that so I'll probably burn myself. I'm not sure what I'm doing but wanna try it. I have just been adding frozen toppers to my puppy's dog food. I switch up the stuff I put in it and just used rice this morning and they loved it. I use olive oil, greek yogurt, flax seed, calcium from eggshells, parsley flakes, rosemary leaves, nutrtitional yeast flakes, turmeric & black pepper, ground ginger and then I will put frozen veggies and frozen fruit in and mix it all up in his puppy chow. I've used carrots, strawberries, blueberries, okra, sugar snap peas, green beans, corn, apple, and pineapple and butternut squash and I think that's all I have tried so far. I'm going to get some different stuff next time I'm trying to see what they like and what they don't. They seem to be liking it and I haven't seen any problems, like tummy aches or diarrhea. Oh yeah and I used cheddar cheese, boiled eggs and scrambled eggs. I don't think they are going to like broccoli or cauliflower but I could be wrong and spinach. Oh and I got some deep sea fish oil pills and my dog willingly will take these and chew them up on his own and he loves them. I think he likes the texture when he chews them. I've never seen a dog willingly take a pill that wasn't flavored.

Gabapentin is something doctors use for nerve pain but it hasn't been properly veted! I've been (supposed) to take 1-800 MG pill 3 times a day. But I only take one because I've read negative reports on possible side effects of large doses. I would NEVER give my Aussie gabapentin! A Vet even prescribed my Aussie puppy 5 years ago Tarazadone which I know is a psychotropic medication that has side effects I'm glad I worked in a Psych ward and was familiar with some of these medications.I gave him 1 pill and my very energetic Aussie was a zombie!!! I threw the rest away and asked the vet for a refund which she gave. She's still my Vetanarian. Note: the reason I was prescribed gabapentin is a large cancerous tumor had swollen my right arm to twice it's normal size compressing nerves in my arm and hand (Non-Hodgkins Lymjphoma stage 4) Thanks be to my Lord and Savior Yahweh, Jesus Christ, that Chop Chemotherapy, radiation, and 2 great Cancer doctors has had me in remission since 2011.

May I suggest replacing the sweet potato or carrot with leafy greens or other low glycemic veggies. Also weigh all ingredients instead of measuring. Stay within 20-25% total plant based. Add organ meat at 5% for one and up to 10% if using two different ones. Sunflower oil is rancid leading to inflammation so choose coconut, olive or omega 3 oil. I use omega 3 oil in order to balance omega 6 within meat which too much is inflammatory.

Dogs do not need carbs
@sirrahinct47111 ай бұрын
Do dogs need carbohydrates? Canines do need carbs. In fact, even grain-free diets are a good source of carbohydrates. That can be surprising for pet parents because grain-free dog foods are often thought of as low-carb or carb-free. Dogs need carbohydrates to provide the essential fuel for their daily activities. When carbohydrates are digested, glucose is released into the body for the muscles and brain to use. When you choose carbohydrates from a variety of sources, including grains, cereals, legumes and starches, your dog gets access to essential nutrients that nourish the body and contribute to a healthy microbiome. Complex carbs are nutritional powerhouses, containing amino acids, antioxidants, fiber, starches, vitamins and minerals.
@christinaedwards35611 ай бұрын
@@sirrahinct471As per well known online holistic vets I follow starchy carbs are not needed and can play against the Pancreas; actually this is how Pancreatitis begins which is why a lot of kibble fed dogs develop Pancreatitis. Carbs can be fed through low glycemic options. Also fat gives your dog energy, not starchy carbs. As far as amino acids egg as well as variety meats will provide the amount needed. Your dog is a Carnivore not to be mistaken for an Omnivore (human) or an Obligate Carnivore (cat) which means majority of the diet should be meat, egg, fatty fish, organ/innards. I've fed my dog homemade almost 6 years and she can't be healthier and her diet fluctuates between 75-82% animal based. This doesn't include homemade bone broth every other day or her dehydrated one ingredient chews twice weekly. Working breeds who are exercised regularly may require more animal based as protein and fat is what fuels a Canine and the more exercise the more fuel needed.
@Tpane1710 ай бұрын
@@christinaedwards356 fatty proteins play a large part in pancreatitis as well. Many believe giving their dogs the fatty trim if their table meat is ok 😑
@christinaedwards35610 ай бұрын
@@Tpane17 Too much fat can trigger a Pancreatic attack within a dog with Pancreatic issues, but starchy carbs is what set the animal up for this health issue. A Pancreatic dog should be taken off of all processed starchy filled kibble and onto a very basic simple diet low in fat. Once pup has recovered can gradually add fattier meats and organ draining ingredients. Never put back onto kibble. Drs Judy Morgan, Peter Dobias, Karen Becker, Conor Brady (book Feeding Dogs), Nick Thompson, Katie Woodley may be able to help you better understanding a dog's biological digestive system and Pancreatitis.
