Sometimes, the most troubling issues we face are ones we’re too frightened or hesitant to talk about with others. In this episode, Thomas deals with some troubling thoughts from the night before, and it has the Sides at odds with how to address the situation, if at all. I really, really like Janus' line in Forbidden Fruit. "He said you're wanting to be more honest and be direct dealing with your issues, no longer will you deceive yourself about the ugliness within you." It's actually really upseting that it took a fan comic for me to finally realize this was referring to Thomas, but once I did, it easily became one of my favorite lines out of the whole series. Janus represents self-preservation, which comes with deceit. But he doesn't just want Thomas to deceive others, and thats where the misinterpretations of his character mess up. He's responsible for Thomas deceiving himself aswell, and we're told that alongside his introduction. And that idea is what causes a lot of the later episodes to happen. For example in Selfishness v Selflessness, when Patton says Thomas was really excited to go to the wedding Thomas hesitates before agreeing with him, and we later find out that he actually didn't want to go to the wedding at all. And yet there was still a dilemma between whether or not choosing the callback would make Thomas a bad person or not, so he chooses the wedding regardless. Even Roman, someone who agreed with what Janus was arguing for, ultimately went against him because of the way Thomas viewed self-preservation at the time. And that's the cause behind this episode. Virgil and Patton, the 2 sides who had conflicted with Janus the most up until Putting Others First, both jump on the thoughts Thomas had and make them out to be a bigger deal than they were because of that fear of being a bad person. Thomas wants to be more honest with himself, and with that he ends up making this out to be more indicative of his true character than it really was.

What I was _trying_ to say was that Janus says Thomas wants to be more honest with myself and thats why Remus is revealed, and Thomas is trying to be more honest with myself because of SvS. Idk why I couldn't just say that in the og comment instead of making it so incoherent tho lol. Like to think I've gotten better at explaining things

Those two have a connection that virg doesn’t have with the other sides. They two understand each other completely differently. Logan can tell with Virgil is on the verge of an anxiety attack and watches him closely. He knows what triggers Virgil and when he accidentally mentions something, he stops himself and uses different vocabulary to ease Virgil. I love their friendship and it’s SO UNDERRATED

In rewatching this episode, there was one detail that stuck out to me. In SVS, Janus called out Virgil for being a Dark Side, doing everything except explicitly stating it. When Remus showed up, look how Virgil looked at Thomas. He was scared that he was going to be outed as a Dark, and apologetic about not keeping the others away. Virgil also was blinking a lot through this, and his eyes were red. He genuinely looked like he was about to cry for the entire episode. And when he was about to tell Thomas he was a Dark, he covered his eyes. He had started crying, only after the others left. He didn’t want to be vulnerable. Even more than that, he probably was afraid that would tell them everything, even though he only wanted to tell Thomas. He didn’t want to be patronized by Patton, made fun of by Roman, taunted by Remus, or have Logan explain it in enough detail to make it bigger than it was. Virgil didn’t want to tell anyone except Thomas about his past.

roman, patton, and logan already knew, actually. thats made clear by the way patton and logan have this annoyed look on their faces like "what an asshole" after remus said "it was just like old times!" keep in mind, they already knew about janus and remus before they were revealed. so it would only make sense for them to know about virgil, considering they already knew who he was when he was revealed. (ex: "hey there princey." "oh-kay, I cant stand that guy...") the only thing they didnt know about him was his name. which follows, considering they didnt know janus or remus' either. the reveal that virgil used to be a dark side was for thomas alone. and technically the audience too, but i mean...we called it a long time ago lol.

I deal with intrusive sexual thoughts all the time, which is weird given the fact I’m completely Asexual and have no intention of ever doing any deed. Once I was with a couple of friends and we were just hanging out and I started dry heaving due to this gross thought. It quickly passed, but I hate that this is how my brain works

In fact, its more closer to a disorder like BPD in my opinion, as someone who actively has intrusive sexual thoughts and has BPD. Hypersexuality can also be a resort of SA trauma and can be worsened by PTSD. Its a coping mechanism even for people who may not have any other underlying disorders.
