Transparent part just means you will be able to see the wood grain, if you wanted the natural color of the wood you should have got the clear finish with no stain added

Getting ready to put this on a Wishing Well I built for our yard. 7 foot tall at the peak. I believe this will look GREAT for the Well and the Bridge I built as well. Beads up nice too ! Thanks for the video !!

The color actually looks very nice😊

I agree with you. I don't like it. I like a regular stain that just soaks into the wood and gives a tint, not a painted look. Then go over it with the water seal. Appreciate your honesty. I wouldn't want this to happen to me.

I've been putting off sealing some new decking ... because HOT .. definitely going to do it though seeing how it makes water bead

I know rolling it on doesn't seem that thick. In thompsons video they say to not roll but use a brush pad. Maybe the pad leaves a thinner layer allowing more grain to show. Doing my deck today, hope the grain shows.

I used clear finish on mine and it's no color. You just see fresh treated wood. You were looking for a natural look. You should've gotten clear
@urbanman15163 жыл бұрын
Does it give a 'wet' look with the clear colour? Does it dry clear like the original wood?
@bearclawws4 жыл бұрын
Cedar stain should be called what it looks like, carrot.
@jeramiet1544 жыл бұрын
You used cedar which is tinted with cedar color yet still transparent. Maybe you should have used a clear sealer instead of a stained /tinted sealer? It will tint a light wood to look cedar like. I dont think it's made for cedar.

So obviously way too late to really matter even a little but with anything with stain I’ve noticed a lot of how it turns out depends on the grain in the wood. Obviously I can’t see the wood in person of your deck but it could be that your deck wood just didn’t have really contrasting wood grain to begin with. I’ve had that issue with traditional stains on furniture. I used this product in teak on my fence and I absolutely love it. I’ve also seen a lot of negative reviews which sucks. Did this last even a little bit at 3 years later like they advertise?

You say it is too dark, I like that color. And it looks like you put it on a bit thick
@Jimmy_Cavallo Жыл бұрын
💥 This is transparent stain made to change the color but let the grain show through. What it seems that you wanted is clear, not transparent. Semi solid blocks even more grain. Solid blocks the grain 100%

Why would you think it's supposed to be the natural color of a wood if you got cedar colored STAIN?

I put it on my deck which is partially covered. Anywhere that is exposed to the rain, it looks like it has been beaten off of the wood. it no longer beads well in those areas

Is a polyurethane coating the same thing or not?
@daxshell2423 жыл бұрын
noooo. polyurethane is a plastic like coating. best for indoor surfaces and countertops, or marine projects. in uv light, it will eventually get cloudy and peel. then you need to grind it off to refinish. stains go into the wood. with time they will fade, but you can just add more.

Should gone with clear with no stain.

We've had to redo ours every year. Not happy with the product. It looked great for most of the summer months.

Yeah we've noticed the same thing. We have to re-apply every year instead of the stated 2-3 years

Yeah they need to stop the false advertising. It makes wood very orange not the desaturated pale layer even on the can itself.

How is it transparent if it’s natural cedar tint?
@5thhorseman9823 жыл бұрын
"If a substance or object is transparent, you can see through it very clearly:" -Cambridge Dictionary
@barackobama53042 жыл бұрын
Its like a highlighter. It adds color but you can still read the letters underneath. You can still see the wood grain with the tint.

cedar tone! doesnt mean it will look like cedar. natural wood has variation in tone. a stain can never have variation. its just 1 tone. cedar tone is just that slightly redish brown tone.
@banjax807 ай бұрын
It's cedar color. You needed to use clear.
@rom44864 жыл бұрын
No you not supposed to see natural wood colour when you apply transparent waterproof wood stain !! You supposed to see wood grain only !!!

He used "natural cedar - transparent". He should have used Thompson's "CLEAR" if he wanted no color change.

Hello 👋🏾 The reason it came on dark is because you didn’t sand or chemically brighten the wood first. If you want a lighter tint you have to start with lighter wood. 😉
@Bennymarz4 жыл бұрын
I guarantee you a year later it’s all peeling and coming off, I did mine last summer and a week later it looked just like yours. 6 months later it started peeling . I just spent two days pressure washing it off and another day sanding the wood for the new stain.

What prep did you use the 1st time? What climate/state are you in, in terms of weather?
@Bennymarz4 жыл бұрын
Retro Amplification Minnesota I’m in New York, I replaced the deck-boards with pressure treated pine in may 2018, let the wood dry for a year. In may 2019 I cleaned the deck using deck cleaner, I sprayed it, let it sit for 20 minutes , scrubbed it and washed it off. I applied two light coats of Thompson’s water seal (I believe it was transparent cedar color). It started peeling by October of 2019. I just redid it using Olympic . Hopefully much better results this time around.
@biggstile4 жыл бұрын
@@Bennymarz I've thought about a deck cleaner too, but I trust a pressure washer better. Sorry that happened to you.

I hate all wood stains. I always power wash my deck with a surface cleaner once a year and after 15 years still in really good shape. Stains crack , then they trap water in and rot the wood
