I literally bumped into Thom Yorke in 2003 in a charity shop doorway in Oxford. We did the little synchronised left-right, no you go first shuffle. He was very short and looked pretty annoyed by the interaction. I fucking loved it.

I saw Thom Yorke in a grocery store in LA today. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Thom trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

@@Creed1317 That's correct. It's a remake of the original Argento film.
@TheRaspberryExperiment6 жыл бұрын
Creed It’s officially a re-make but the director has said he doesn’t conceive it as that, but as a re-imagining of it. Probably the production company made it called Suspiria to draw the audience. It seems to be nothing like the original. That masterpiece and style can’t be recreated. The director of the new one seems to acknowledge that and I respect that.
@masterchain33356 жыл бұрын
If you watch the trailer for this one it's immediately obvious that it's a pretty different movie. It looks like they kept the most basic aspects of the plot the same but almost everything else should change. I originally was really resistant to the idea of them remaking that movie, but seeing what they've done with it, I am curious to see how it turns out. As someone else said it looks less like a remake and more like a complete re-imagining of the story. I expect there may be one or two homages to the original but the overall style looks nothing like it. I am glad they didn't try to emulate Argento's style because that would just be pointless.
@JesusGomez-ob2qt2 жыл бұрын
@@masterchain3335 three years later, what are your thoughts on the remake?
@masterchain33352 жыл бұрын
@@JesusGomez-ob2qt Some of it was interesting but overall I didn't like it very much. I didn't dislike it because it was different from the original - I didn't have too much trouble seeing it as its own thing. It just didn't really captivate me, and I found the final act of the film to be rather sloppy and just poor film making. To be fair, the finale of the original is weak compared to the rest of the film too. I do recommend people see it and make up their mind, but for me it was kind of disappointing.

Thom Yorke - Suspiria LA listening The score was amazing. About 5 or 6 of the tracks were songs with vocals and all. There is a second version of ‘Suspirium’ with guitar and more electronic elements. I preferred it over the single version that was just released. There is one track with lyrics about “taking a bird under his wing”, and I personally believe that was one of the best songs he has ever written. The piano chords and his vocals/lyrics were so beautiful. There is a track that felt like it could fit on Kid A. It had a groovy bass line with pounding drums.

I sure hope he plays some of them in his upcoming solo shows, maybe finish with Suspirium alone on piano instead of Spectre as he has been.

I've always believed the piano was where Thom really was the most beautiful and creative sometimes in the simplest of ways. Pyramid Song, Like Spinning Plates, Codex to name a few. Sit Down Stand Up is masterful.. to be able to sing like that and still keep the piano in rhythm with the electronic beat is otherworldly. One of my all time favorite songs, and one of Radioheads most underrated as well.

This is a waltz thinking about our bodies - Questo è un valzer che pensa ai nostri corpi What they mean for our salvation - Quello che significano per la nostra salvezza With only the clothes that we stand up in - Con solo i vestiti con cui ci alziamo Just the ground on which we stand - Solo il terreno su cui stiamo Is the darkness ours to take? - L’oscurità è nostra da prendere? Bathed in lightness, bathed in heat - Bagnato nella leggerezza, immerso nel calore All is well, as long as we keep spinning - Tutto va bene, finché continuiamo a girare Here and now, dancing behind a wall - Qui e ora, ballando dietro un muro When the old songs and laughter we do - Quando le vecchie canzoni e le risate facciamo Are forgiven always and never been true - Sono perdonati sempre e mai stati veri When I arrive, will you come and find me? - Quando arriverò, verrai a trovarmi? Or in a crowd, be one of them? - O in una folla, sarai uno di loro? Wore the wrong sign back beside her - Portava il segno sbagliato accanto a lei Know tomorrow’s at peace - So che il domani è in pace

Great translation! That said, as a native English speaker I don't think "lightness" means "leggerezza" in this context - maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but based on "darkness" in the previous line I believe that "lightness" is referring not to weight, but to light (luce), and so it would be better to say 'illuminazione' or 'luminosita'. Either that, or it's actually meant to be ambiguous in English, in which case either translation is fine xP.
@filopaa19906 жыл бұрын
Bathrobe Warrior Absolutely correct! Bathed in lightness and heat makes perfect sense because he’s implicitly referring to the Sun. I believe “immersi nella luce, immersi nel calore” would fit better, also plural.
