Gotta love Casström! I've got the Woodsman, with the bog oak handle by Roger Harrington. It's my absolute favourite as of now. Great video, Thor! See you on the next one!

If I could only pick one the two here, which should i pick? The idea is to use it together with a small forest axe on general bushcraft. Perhaps a would bring a traditional Mora for fine task and a double spoon knife. My concerns are mainly the Fält knife perhaps being to long or the no 10 having to thin handle.

Casstrom actually advise not botoning with there knives as they won't be responsible for blade damage. There is a review on youtube were an English guy done light battoning with his Lars falt knife and the edge of the blade was absolutely destroyed. He got it replaced but now casstrom put a note in your knife box explaining about the warranty issue regarding battoning. I have the TBS boar in stainless steel it looks very similar and is very reliable superb knife. Having said this I'm not pulling casstron down I own the No 10 forrest knife and it is incredable.

Hi Dave, thx for your comment, that is worrying.... The first Lars Fält knife i got a little chip in the blade after using it, (NOT Bartoning) I send it back and got a new with the answer that it was a fault in the blade. but now im not so sure!!! Nothing happened with the new knife though. Anyhow, if they recomend that you should not barton with it it is NOT a knife i recomend, like I say, this is not something I do all the time, but a good buchcraft knife should be abel to take it. And I do bartoning for the smaller kindle with my knife! Im sure that it is not in Lars Fält spirit that a knife should not be able to barton Regards Thorbjørn

Hello Guys, Firstly, I wanted to say that I'm glad that you both have Casström knives, and are happy with them! :) Secondly, I just wanted to say that we don't actually advise against batoning per se. Our warranty states that 'Casstrom knives are normally ok to be used for batoning using clean wood free from knots...' Where folks have to be careful is making sure that when they are batoning they are using wood free from hard knots, that they are aware of the outside temperature regarding the steel, etc. This is to avoid the risk of chipping or edge damage. I personally have used my Lars Fält knife on countless occasions in the Swedish forest, and in every season. I have used batoning many times and the knife is absolutely fine. I am always checking what I am batoning, to see if there is any features that I should be avoiding in the wood. The review you speak of was actually an issue with the grind, and the knife was replaced. We had a very small number at the outset that were ground with quite a thin edge, and these were quickly rectified. The guy in the review was very happy with his replacement knife, although there is no further review of this obviously. If I remember rightly, he did put something to that effect in his comments section. If you are confident that the piece of wood you are batoning is good, and free of obvious knots for example, then batoning with a Casström knife is fine. Go for it! Cheers! Leo (Casström UK).

Which is better No 10 or Lars Falt knife? In terms or handle, weight etc? One question more. Its carbon steel rusts easily or is relatively ok?

Really appreciate and enjoy your videos. I am leaning toward the no. 10 forest knife, though the Lars Falt has me thinking hard about my choice. Given only the Number 10 and the Lars Falt as choices, which would you choose? I have large hands, but both appear acceptable for size. I have a 50-year old Lusaka puuko, which is a smaller, but excellent knife. The blade is same length as the Number 10, but handle is smaller, works fine. Which Casstrom would you choose? Thank you.

You know if there's a knot in the wood after the first baton strike... Turn it round and hit the other end 😉

Hi James, hmmmm I know what u mean, but 2 things: 1. when I test a knife I want to make sure that it can take a beating, I agree that if you on day basic baton or choping with your knife it will were it down. but if im on the spot a good knife should be abel to chop or baton, without it braking. 2. I do baton smaller kindel on dayli basis white my knife, and in my project.
