Two points for questions you raised: 1. Why doesn't Thor give out his powers more often? He's only really gained that since the death of his father. Remember that Odin gave enchantments like that, so only as he learns to use the Odin-force can he do bigger stunts like that. 2. For how goofy the movie is, it's not just a Taika Watiti film, but one that's framed as a tale from Korg's point of view. We get the spooky start to Gor, and from then on it's all Korg's version of the events that play out. So if Thor seems dumb, remember it's Korg's view of Thor, not an objective one.

*''He's only really gained that since the death of his father. Remember that Odin gave enchantments like that, so only as he learns to use the Odin-force can he do bigger stunts like that.''* but then why he didnt do this on infinity war or endgame events? or during the opening when guardians need help? my theory is he needs a powerful magical item that goes well with his powers in order to share them. *''We get the spooky start to Gor, and from then on it's all Korg's version of the events that play out. So if Thor seems dumb, remember it's Korg's view of Thor, not an objective one.''* nah. opening was just one scene. even after korg's narration started we still got 5 more well executed, serious and emotional scenes without getting interrupted by jokes

I think the hard part for me with this movie is that for the first half everything is a joke. Gorr is starting to go down a dark path that should have some emotional weight to it, but Lady Sith and Thor just make jokes around it so it no longer has the weight. I wish the first half had the same tones as the last half. I think it had such potential to be an impactful story.
@elijah11642 жыл бұрын
Until Gorr attacks New Asgard the movie felt like a really, really long SNL bit. Ragnarok was hilarious but the emotional weight was still always there, even if they did undercut it at times. But yeah like you said, the entire first act here is just one extended joke, it barely even feels like you’re watching a movie. It’s a shame because as a whole, the story the movie wanted to tell was really nice, they just literally didn’t care to tell it for the first chunk of the film.
@ThatShyGuyMatt2 жыл бұрын
Good points. Movie goes from dark/sad to funny so much it makes it a mess.
@UncleMilo2 жыл бұрын
I agree. They let the humor get ahead of the plot. With Ragnarok, the story was alway priority over the humor. They should have done more to build up Jane's story so that her death would have more impact, we should have seen Gorr doing some on screen god-killing to increase his threat level and they should have had more with Thor and the Guardians where Thor could see how they were a family and maker the connective thread to the finale of Thor taking on the responsability of being a father. You didn't have to change much... just pull back some of the humor to build up the plot points. I mean... that's why Ragnarok worked because the plot points were throrough with the humor backing it up.

I agree with Steven. I love Ragnarok but this one overdid the comedy and often felt clunky. I love most of what Taika Waititi has done so far in the MCU and elsewhere, but the first half of this movie was rough. Everybody acted like an idiot and not even like an idiot version of the same character they're supposed to be portraying. They often felt like they were some other person. Like for example Lady Sif. She was a badass in every one of her previous appearances in the MCU, and in this movie she's there for a couple of minutes, loses an arm and acts like an idiot for a cheap laugh about her technically dying after a battle and thus not going to Valhalla. Instead of feeling like a funny MCU movie like Ragnarok of the Ant-Man movies, this often felt like a clumsy satire of the MCU in general that tried too hard to wink at the audience. Bale as Gorr was great as expected, but he was so good he often felt out of place and like he was in a totally different movie and nobody told him. I didn't hate it, but I went into it expecting to like it way more and instead ended up thinking it's one of the weakest MCU movies so far and though it has some good bits, they're ultimately overshadowed by some really sucky bits and weird choices. Taika Waititi managed to beautifully balance and blend comedy and drama in "Jojo Rabbit," so I know he can do it. But here? He failed miserably.

In norse mythology, Thor does have two magic goats. If I remember correctly, he can kill and eat their meat, then put the bones back into the skins and the goats will be reborn by next morning. A stinger scene or something of Thor eating the goats because he got annoyed with them too would have been the perfect punchline.

I rewatch this movie with you and i gotta say, i enjoyed a lot more the second time. The good stuff outweight the bad and silliest stuff for me. And i got the same reaction as Nikki. -Gorr was amazing, his scenes were the best -The Black and White scenes were awesome -I love the goats -The soundtrack, as a fan of Guns N' Roses, i like it! -Jane returning was something i didn't expect but i like her character much MUCH more in this one -The scenes of the kids charging againts the shadow creatures I just didn't like: -Characterization of Zeus -Korg, I feel like korg works better in smaller doses. -Some of the humor didn't stick the landing -Gorr needed more scenes. But all in all, i was entertained, i would say this movie works better if you are a fan of the humor.

I think Zeus makes a lot of sense honestly. He's not done shit that we know about for 2500 years and he's decadent and oblivious really fits the Greek gods as compared with the Norse ones. They are the cause of so many damn problems cause of their sexual transgressions and everything else and never help when they need it.

I just didn't like: -Characterization of Zeus -Korg, I feel like korg works better in smaller doses. -Some of the humor didn't stick the landing -Gorr needed more scenes. -Zeus was good. I did like they got much of his comic parts in it, while still changing him enough to fit LA -Korg's dynamic with Thor is the best thing in the MCU besides Loki and Thanos -Totally -Gorr was amazing and needed more scenes. Which the movie was at least half an hour longer to get more of a backstory for Gorr and more of him actually butcher gods

Thor at the beginning of the movie was going through a phase of rebirth/healing (Including his eyes). That's why he was like that and Stormbreaker has some emotions because it is also part Groot. Well, that's the theory anyway.

It's so weird, usually I really dislike Taika Waititi stuff and I also didn't like Ragnarok all that much because I thought it made Thor too ridiculous. But now with this one and hearing all the mediocre reactions I was fully expecting to hate it, and I honestly thought it was very solid. I came to expect the over the top "funny" shit that Taika does and it kinda worked for me here, especially because they also head really heavy undertones all the way through. Was pleasantly surprised!

Yeah I didn’t enjoy Ragnerok either as far as Thors character development. I feel it put him in Thor 1 type ego again & dumbed him down sort of like he regressed as a character. The last chunk of this movie (and many other parts) especially with him asking Gorr why would he spend his finale moments with him when he could spend it with Jane felt more in line with his pre-ragnerok development while still keeping a good balance of his humor as well.

The goats actually make sense bc in Norse mythology Thor actually DID have 2 pet goats(they didn't scream) that were basically immortal, he could butcher and eat them, but as long as he didn't break any bones they'd regenerate. But also Loki tricks someone into eating the marrow and made it so they couldn't heal correctly
@northwind25382 жыл бұрын
I'm still on the fence with this movie. Thor is essentially a caricature of himself now and I get wanting to make him comical but they straight up made him stupid. Gorr is the "God Butcher" yet we only see him kill one god onscreen. Criminal underuse of Christian Bale. Someone said that maybe this movie is so outlandish because it's a story being told directly by Korg but I still don't think that justifies how ridiculous it is to pour beer on an axe that 'feels' like you're cheating on it with a hammer.
