Tony Leung played him so well, he is a legend! I also love the fact that as they say in the movie Shang Chi was the product of both his parents and they tell it in the fight scenes which I absolutely love. There are tons of legendary Hong Kong actors in this, including Tony Leung. I think for me, the heart and most compelling part of the movie is the tragedy of Wen Wu. This felt like his story. You can see in his eyes his sorrow, like when he hears that "We needed you, and you chose those damn rings" and his tears and shaking his head when Shang said "I wish that were true". The dragon and soul sucker I could care less about. To me this was the story of a Father who wanted to be strong and love his family and did it in all the wrong ways. It was so human. The irrationality, lashing out blaming his son for his wife's death (even though I'm sure he didn't really feel that way all this time, would know better) Shang Chi blaming his dad, saying he's going to kill him, another irrational but very human reaction. My eyes sweat seeing him flash back to his son through the ages before he died.

As a little girl growing up in Korea, I always loved martial arts movies, but, as a child, I associated them as either the real action violent martial arts movies and, what I called "magic" martial arts movies, where they showed the more supernatural aspects of the artform. I LOVED magic martial arts, the flying, the superhero-ish jumps and moves, the manipulation of chi on one's environment, the "powers". For me, Shang-Chi was taking all the beauty and wonder of magic martial arts, and placing it within the MCU universe. I LOVED this movie, and I feel it's one of the more interesting ones, like Guardians of the Galaxy, like Doctor Strange. LOVED it. And Katie especially, made it feel SO relatable. I AM Katie - the girl who moved to the US, whose parents were constantly speaking our native language to me, so I fully understood it on hearing, but I failed at actually speaking my first language due to repetitive and regular use of just English, and wanting to fit in with my American friends. A little overweight, a little weird, not at all athletic and sporty and able to fight, a little bit Americanized and not quite fitting in EITHER culture, and struggling to maintain equilibrium within that. Parents wanting me to achieve the success they KNOW I am capable of, but feeling out of place within that Asian parent dream. I related HARD to the Katie character, and I loved that she was kept as a vital part of the story, and not just a forgettable secondary character. I ALSO loved how well the ladies got along, Katie, their friend, his aunt, and his sister. I'm tired of the "women can't get along and constantly hate each other" trope in movies, so this was absolutely refreshing to see them all exhibit such camaraderie. Oh, and can I say, Michelle Yeoh is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous, at ANY age. And she still has moves - she can whip the ass of a person less than half her age. I can't get over the fact that she is damned near 60.

But in this movie, they allow for a natural healing to occur between the siblings who also understand that there is a common enemy between them and that they benefit aiding each other even when they have their differences. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a strong sibling duo! Much like Wanda and Pietro.

That’s why his dad took the pendants because he knew the day but he didn’t know the right path to take but then he knew both. Shang-Chi and the rest got though only because Moriss helped them stay in the pocket that you have to stay in the other days of the year. If you are not from Talo then you would never know how to find a way though. I also love the end battle! There is a quick cool detail at the end with Xialing and the dragon. I was late to movie night this week and stumbled on this instead. I LIIIIVE for your joy over this movie! No idea if the MCU will ever fold Shang-Chi back in 🤷🏻♀️. And yes, Morris and his creature buds are the best 💘. (edit: Must give flowers to the Legends, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh 💐💐)

The guy playing the archery teacher is Yuen Wah; he was a stunt double for Bruce Lee and is one of the "Seven Little Fortunes", a troupe of young performers from the Chinese Drama Academy (the most famous being Jackie Chan) that were in a bunch of the heyday Hong Kong martial arts films from the 80's and 90's. He's also in the movie _Kung Fu Hustle,_ which I highly recommend if you're interested in watching hilarious martial arts comedy.

All of the mythical creatures are actually from Chinese mythology, Morris is a hundun, a being of chaos. Chaos, in relation to the creation myth, is a void state, disorganized and innocent, childlike

I saw this at the cinema, and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It definitely rates as a delightful surprise. As soon as the fight broke out on the bus, and I saw the streamer guy from Spiderman, I knew I was in for a good time. :) Also, we see (once again) that, in most of the important ways, the quality of the villain defines the quality of the Marvel movie, and Tony Leung delivered the goods.

Thank you! I can't believe no one has mentioned Tony Leung till now. He stole the film in my opinion. His charisma and acting....whew.

The sequence with them in the forest was one of my favorite scenes in the MCU. Uncharacteristically elegant for the franchise and it was just a sweet moment and a good introduction to the character

Crazy timing on this upload! I finally watched it last night. Such an incredible movie. I like the comic character and I think they did a great job at modernizing the character while still keeping him pretty true to the material.

“I’m a try and grade this fight” in case you didn’t notice that’s the street vendor from Homecoming. The one that yells “ok Spider-Man! Do a flip!” I’m surprised they didn’t recognize Emil Blonsky aka The Abomination from The Incredible Hulk movie Seeing Trevor Slatery come back was such a trip. There were so many callbacks to super early MCU films I love it Wong doing karaoke is the best mid credits scene ever!

That's Abomination (from the first MCU Hulk movie) that Wong is fighting in the cage. The fight choreography was done by Brad Allan (RIP), a legend who learned from Jackie Chan.

Oh, wow! 😮 This was a pleasant surprise. I'm so glad you guys waited to watch this with us. This movie was breathtakingly beautiful. From start to finish, I had a huge smile on my face...like a kid at a huge attraction. I only realized I was smiling that hard, after the movie was over and my cheeks hurt. I was pretty bummed that I didn't get to see this in the theaters, before it left. Especially, after I watched it on Disney +. The cinematography and vivid colors left me speechless. The story was sad, but a good origin story for a future Avenger hero. All those nostalgic feels of watching old Kung Fu movies through the years. Some of the ones from the late 90's-2000's are amazing. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS HERO. Can you react to this one, please? It's a Jet Li movie. You will see a few familiar faces in it as well. It is so stunningly beautiful that it will blow your mind.

You do realize Wong was fighting Abomination from the 'Incredible Hulk' movie. I'm guessing he's gonna be enlisted to that Val lady from 'Falcon & Winter Soldier'for her new team. Probably the 'Thunderbolts.' Kind of a Suicide Squad, without the suicidal part. Love the vid, & loved the movie! 🤘😁

it warms my heart to see you both enjoy shang-chi so much 🧡 in case you didn’t know, the giant lion dogs from the ta lo village represent traditional chinese statues that are put in front buildings in real life - one lion dog protects the home from harmful spiritual influences, while the other protects the community from evil people. they’re an important symbol of chinese culture and mythology 😊 much love!🌻

I love this movie so much! I am a martial artist, and Kung-Fu is in my base, and this got me excited. What Shang-Chi's mom showed, in the fight scene with the dad, is a presentation of the Dragon style of Shaolin, Hollywood version. What bothers me there, we can't fly! Enough with the flying, make it more realistic Hollywood. Other than that, the movie is incredible. The weapon you've seen, with the chain, is the Shaolin whip, as my Sifu called it, and it's very hard to control it. I am a big fan of Iron Palm training, I do it myself. Beyond the colorful name, it's not just the fist, it's the entire body, you create micro fractures. This is not just increasing power, it could be a life saving training, as your bones are more powerful, and much less easy broken. But the problem, the way it was shown here, you don't hit with full force, you hit with minimal force.

I don't know if you remember Trevor from Iron Man 3. He was the actor that they hired, to be the Mandarin. However Shang Chi's father was the real Mandarin. And Wong was fighting Abomination, from the Hulk film.
