I personally see this movie as a movie about grief Thor is in the denial stage, refusing to allow himself to feel the pain of loss, so he's overcompensating by being goofier than ever Jane is in the bargaining stage, trying to use Mjolnir to prevent her death Valkyrie is also bargaining, but this time it's about the death of her culture and everything she knew. She's trying to keep Asgardian culture alive in whatever manner she can, even though it turns New Asgard into a tourist trap. Their last working ship is a theme park ride, their grand plays are kids entertainment and even Mjolnir is in a display case to be gawked at. Gorr is obviously in the anger stage.

Put me in the camp of people who really enjoyed this film in the theater for its emotional arcs and payoffs. I thought that Thor's characterization was perfectly in tune with how he'd been portrayed up to this point, and Jane's story is tops all around. Gorr is a great villain, if underutilized -- I heard rumors that some of Christian Bale's scenes were so intense they had to be cut to keep the PG-13 rating. I'm also not one of those people who obsesses over the CG as long as it's not intrusively bad. My biggest problem was and remains the pacing. The script was heavily cut down, in part because of rewrites that put too heavy a burden on the VFX team, so they had to pick and choose what to keep, and it shows. There just isn't room for everything to breathe and it feels like some important transitional scenes were skipped. It's interesting to note how many of the Phase 4/5 properties have had to do with family and end up in some sort of surrogate parenthood: Hawkeye, Thor, Dr. Strange, [spoilers]. It seems that being a dad is the MCU's highest calling.

I love the way that all three of the weapons had a kind of agency to them. Apart from Stormbreaker acting jealous, the way Mjolnir was hovering next to Jane in the hospital felt a lot like "I want you to help him, but I know what it's going to do you, it's up to you." And when Thor snatched Thunderbolt out of the air, I pictured it telling Zeus "You've been doing party tricks with me for three thousand years, so I'm going off with the guy who wants to use me as a weapon, bye sucker!" I have a feeling that whether you like the screamy goats corresponds a lot with whether you're a pet owner. Thor powering up the kids was great. He could probably have taken out all the monsters by himself, but not quickly enough to stop any of them going round him and killing some of the kids - so he made the kids like him, in a move Gorr would never have predicted in a million years. Re Guardians of the Galaxy 3: brace yourself, there will be some heavy scenes of animal cruelty.

Thor Love and Thunder happens between Avengers Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special. Apart from the tonal inconsistencies, there are two things that I wish this movie did. 1. Properly explain that Jane's cancer was a result of having an infinity stone inside her in Thor 2. 2. See more of the consequences of Gorr's actions. Apart from the opening and the distress calls from the Guardian's ship, we don't ever see any other gods being attacked, or Gorr's adventure in getting to Earth. The Necro Sword gave him flashes of visions, but the fact he knew to go exactly to Earth was weird. I would have liked an insert where he learns that Asgard was destroyed, and they now live on Midgard.

26:04 my favorite funny moment Korg makes for a great narrator. The only other MCU characters I feel that can compete with him are Luis and Kamala. I had a feeling that the title Love and Thunder had a deeper meaning, but I didn’t expect it to be nicknames for Thor and his new daughter. A decade ago I never imagined they would implement the screaming goat meme into a comic book film, but here we are. They don't mention their names out loud, but they're called Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. The New Asgard tour guide is Darryl Jacobson. He appeared in the Team Thor One-Shots and starred in his own short titled Team Darryl. Gorr's daughter Love was portrayed by Chris Hemsworth's real-life daughter India Rose. In fact, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Taika Waititi had their kids join as some of New Asgard's children. Not only that, the kids who were brought to set were asked to draw monsters on paper. Then those drawings were submitted to the visual development team to create the shadow monsters that we see in the final film. The idea started when Taika’s daughter drew a monster and showed it to her dad, and that was in the early stages of development. They had yet to start filming at the time. Imagine if the Guardians knew about Eternity. If they stuck around long enough, either Nebula or Peter would have wished to revive Gamora whereas Drax would bring back his wife and daughter. I didn't expect for them to be around for much of the movie, but when I saw it in theaters for the first time I was hoping to at least get a teaser about where they're headed next. At least we kinda got a glimpse of it in the Guardians Holiday Special which you already saw. Following their time with Thor, the Guardians buy Knowhere from the Collector and have Cosmo join the team. At least the wait is almost over. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is in theaters now, and it should arrive to Disney Plus in about a month or two. Lastly, if Jane and Heimdall managed to arrive to Valhalla, I wonder if original Loki also made it in. He did try to stop Thanos himself. Maybe that alone qualifies as a warrior's death to grant him entry. At least we still have his analyst double who's no different than the original. He's still our one and the same Loki. I'm not gonna lie: I was hoping for a cameo from Analyst Loki, but I guess it isn't time for the brothers to reunite just yet. Hopefully we see them together in one of the upcoming Avengers films. One's gonna be called the Kang Dynasty, and the other Secret Wars. We still have a ways to go, but the Avengers will reassemble.

Which of the surviving heroes will be in these two new films, though, and will we see some of the new heroes like Moon Knight in either of them, too?

Oh, thanks for those informations. Didn't knew it was Chris' real daughter. That of course may explain the great chemestry between them. Would really like to see more of them.

You'd have thought Thor, who knew about Eternity considering it's embedded in Asgardian Mythos what with the Asgardian Seal, would've have gone there to undo Thanos Snap... But hey, just one of the many reasons this movie actively destroys the Infinity Saga

@@EntertainmentFan11I dunno about Moon Knight. I would love to see Marc and Steven again, but I dunno how well Marc would work with the Avengers. Furthermore, we barely know Jake Lockley.

I actually did love this move, my only problem was the harsh transition from silly comedy to dark drama, Ragnarok did it much better, other than that I did love this movie. Only other thing is they did film the actual first transformation of Jane, I do see why they did the reveal they did with us seeing her first when Thor does. And maybe in the flashback the actual transformation wouldn't have the same effect, but it would still have been cool to see it.

I like this movie. It only needed one or two more scenes showing Gor actually butchering some gods, and it would have been great. I think most of the negativity around this movie was because of expectations. Gor is a popular villain and his story in the comics is really serious and just one of the best Marvel stories. And the Jane gets cancer story is also a good one. So this movie took two beloved stories and sort of half assed them both. But if you don’t have any of those expectations going in, you won’t be disappointed and this movie is fun and enjoyable as its own thing.

Most of the issue is that in the comics Gorr is a very serious and imposing character who Thor has to take seriously. We don’t get to actually see him killing any gods or doing anything cool really. He just kind of pops up here and there. Plus they rushed over his backstory too quickly. All the serious backstory looks like it got removed from the story in favor of corny and repetitive jokes. I can understand having some humour but it dragged on so long that we missed out on a huge opportunity to make Gorr a really compelling villain who actually was formidable for Thor. At no point in this movie did it ever feel like thor was in any real danger of being killed. That’s just bad.l when the main build up is supposed to be on that level. I felt more terrified of hela than I did here with Gorr. Should’ve just been more Gorr, more GORE, and less jokes from thor. If they would’ve balanced it out a bit more then this movie would’ve been fantastic. But they went a bit overboard with the comedy and lack of consequences.

Hemsworth, Portman, Bale, and Waititi’s kids are littered throughout the film. Most notably, Gorr’s daughter is portrayed by Hemsworth’s daughter India Rose.

They didn’t spell it out in the movie, but in the comics every time Jane transformed to Thor it purged her body of her chemo drugs.

By the order of release of what's left: I am Groot (post credits in episode 5), She Hulk: Attorney at Law (post credits in episodes 1,2,3,4 and 9), Werewolf by Night, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (one post credits) and Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (two post credits). You already saw the Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special so I don't put it between Wakanda Forever and Quantumania.

This movie... wasn't as bad as some people seem to imply. It isn't one of my favourites but I kind of like it. Thor asked Mjolner to watch over Jane. He didn't say she was worthy, the hammer decided that on its own, but yeah he set the stage for her. On one hand it is sad to see the "heroes" of the MCU step down or pass on... but the reality is the action in these movies isn't easy and real people age. The multiverse is the ultimate "reboot" or return for any character... but that won't make the actors younger. I hope to see many more heroes rise, even if I'm sad when the fade away.

It really is as bad as most make out. Horrific in fact. It's so bad I could and have written a dissertation on why it's so bad. A Vanity project to massage Taika Watitis ridiculous ego.

This is the ONLY entry in the MCU I haven’t seen twice (or more). I did not feel good about this movie as I was walking out of the theater. Still don’t feel good about it. I really glad you enjoyed it though Addie.

NOTES: - Since the movie doesn't do a detailed job of explaining what EXACTLY is going on with Jane and Mjolnir: Mjolnir instantly restores Jane to perfect health when she transforms into her Goddess Of Thunder form. It heals all her wounds, stops any diseases she has, and purges all poisons and toxins from her body. That SOUNDS great. But it isn't. It's a temporary fix that makes things worse. Because the thing is that it only PAUSES her diseases and makes them not affect her while she's transformed, AND her chemotherapy is treated as a poison/toxin and gets purged from her body. That means that each time she transforms back into regular Jane her cancer resumes and her chemotherapy is gone and has to be started over from scratch. Using Mjolnir is slowly killing her. - Thor's goats are mythologically accurate. Thor has two pet goats that pull his chariot. Their names are Tanngnjóstr ("Toothgnasher") and Tanngrisnir ("Toothgrinder"). They're also immortal. Sort of. Thor kills and cooks them, and they just resurrect the next morning. - Eternity is the first and only true god we've met in the MCU. He's TRULY omnipotent. He is THE god of the Marvel Universe. - Gorr's daughter, "Love" is played by Chris Hemsworth's real life daughter. It is POSSIBLE that Love is just a nickname like Thunder, and she's simply Gorr's resurrected daughter. It's ALSO possible that Love is the MCU version of Mistress Love, which would make her the second true god in the MCU. .............................LESS IMMEDIATELY RELEVANT............................ TRUE GODS: The TRUE gods of the Marvel Universe are sentient living embodiments of aspects of reality. They're sometimes known as the Abstracts. - Eternity is the living personified embodiment of time itself. - Infinity, Eternity's twin sister, is the living embodiment of space itself. Together they are the living sentience and embodiment of the universe itself. They ARE the Marvel Universe. They are the Time-Space continuum. Counterparts to Eternity and Infinity are: - Death (Lady Death), the personified embodiment of death, the source of death, the embodiment of entropy, decay, and ending. - Oblivion, the personified embodiment of nothingness, the void, that which never existed to begin with. - Galactus, the Devourer Of Worlds. A giant planet-eating space god. He's a lesser god who is the balancing force between Eternity/Infinity and Death/Oblivion. Through his endless cosmic hunger he brings death and oblivion to the eternal and infinite. The life force of devoured worlds sustains him. And once he has devoured all that there is to devour, all the energy he has consumed will explode out of him and cause the next Big Bang, giving birth to a new Eternity and Infinity. He's sort of the god of renewal and rebirth. - Abraxas, the embodiment of pure destruction. He's Galactus' opposite. Destruction and death without renewal or rebirth. Others of the true gods are - Master Order - Lord Chaos (Order's opposite) - The In-Betweener (a lesser god who maintains balance between Order and Chaos) - Mistress Love - Sire Hate (Love's opposite) - Now & Then (the children of Eternity who are the living embodiments of the present and past) - etc On a universal level, Eternity, Infinity, Death, and Oblivion are the four most powerful beings in the universe. But each of the Abstracts is just a universal part of a multiversal Abstract. Every Marvel Universe has an Eternity who is its living embodiment. Infinite Eternities. But all the infinite Eternities are part of the multiversal Eternity - the being who is the personified embodiment of all time in the Marvel Multiverse. But then even the Multiversal Abstracts have a boss - The Living Tribunal. The Living Tribunal is a giant glowing golden man with a three-faced head that float above his shoulders (no neck). Its three faces represent Equity, Necessity, and Vengeance. The Living Tribunal is the judge of the Multiverse. It maintains justice and order, and makes sure the Abstracts stay in line. And then even the Living Tribunal itself has a boss - The One Above All. The One Above All is the absolute supreme being in the Marvel Multiverse. It is the canonical in-story embodiment of the will of Marvel Comics itself. The real world company as a character in the comics. Every writer, artist, editor, executive, Marvel, Disney.....the real life people. The companies themselves. The One Above All is truly omnipotent, because it being real life will of Marvel means it has no rules to govern it. When it (very rarely) appears in the comics, The One Above All tends to take the form of Jack Kirby - the main artist/writer/editor who co-created most of the Marvel stuff with Stan Lee. - The One Below All. It's sort of like......Mega Turbo Satan. It's the same being as The One Above All. Just the opposite side of the coin. A different aspect of the same entity. The evil version. The personification of all the evil ideas Marvel comes up with. .............................EVEN LESS IMMEDIATELY RELEVANT............................ MOST of the "gods" we meet in the Marvel Universe are just super powerful aliens and other beings. Asgardians, Olympians, the Ennead (the Egyptian gods), Abrahamic "God", Cthulhu, demons/devils/dark gods (Mephsito, Dormammu, Chthon, etc), the Vishanti (the gods of magic - Agamotto, Oshtur, and Hoggoth), etc etc etc. The Celestials (who you saw in the Eternals) are the creations of The First Firmament - the first Eternity. Every time a "Galatus" archetype god eats the whole universe and births a new one, a new Eternity is born. We are currently on the 7th Cosmos (iirc). The FIRST Eternity was called the First Firmament, and he created the Celestials to....create the universe. The Celestials are his minions whose job it is to create planets and stars and galaxies and stuff. The Skyfathers - the chief deities of each pantheon (Odin, Zeus, Vishnu, Ra, etc etc) are all empowered far beyond the rest of their kind. Like Odin possessed the Odinforce. In death, the Odinforce passed on to Thor (sometimes now known as the Thorforce). The Skyfathers are SUPER powerful compared to the rest of their kind, and under the level of the Celestials. A lot of these beings who get called "gods" tend to be around the level of Celestials. Like Dormammu, Mephisto, the Vishanti, Cthulhu, etc. FAAAAAAR more powerful than average Asgardians or Olympians or whatever. Most of the powerful superheroes fall in the zone between average Asgardians and Skyfathers. Like Spider-Man, Groot, Drax, Gamora, Nebula, Black Panther, etc are probably about on the level of Thor's best friends. Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Vision, Hulk, etc are less powerful than the Skyfathers. Uatu and the other Watchers, who you saw in What If? aren't actually gods, but they're virtually omnipotent (for most purposes) aliens. Their entire race is roughly on the level of low-level true gods, like Galactus.
