This is super cool but I'm wondering... It seems to me like tac-welding everything together is a bad idea. I've watched a ton of Forged in Fire (so you know I'm the world's leading blacksmithing expert 🙄)... but seriously. Wouldn't it have been better to tac-weld each bar used for the head together like you did, but also weld additional smaller ones in the nooks so you create a fully-welded, solid head? And I'm willing to bet it would have been better to hammer out a couple long, thin straps of steel and actually wrapping the head instead of merely tac-welding a few thin straps on the sides? Final thing I'm wondering is how secure the handle is inside the head. When you put it together and started welding it looked like the handle was not straight at all - Wouldn't it have been better to weld the bottom first with the handle standing vertically out of the head, and also fill the gaps with some molten steel? I really like the results but I'm wondering how durable it actually would be. Something like that would be handy to own if ww3 happens and you gotta survive. But how long would it last? A few strikes, a few weeks, months years or decades? Can it be strong but light?

You should really be throwing down some rope welds, instead of long tack welds. You’re just shallow welding, and for something you’re going to be swinging around, you want deep penetrating welds. You’re risking possible injury.
@julianschwonberg2983
@julianschwonberg2983 Жыл бұрын
It will hold anyways, there is no extraordinary force on the components, since it's for decoration purposes only. Also I think they do it for lesser heat influence. I do question the time factor though.

@@paulwright8378 Sanding belts are as easy to get a hold of as a grinder. You buy them at the same store mate. And it taking forever was the entire point. Hand tools are much more satisfying to use as the end result is then personal and not souless like machine tools.

@VestigialHead
@VestigialHead Жыл бұрын
@@paulwright8378 How much they cost has no bearing on how easy they are to get a hold of mate. That is decided by their rarity. There are multiple stores in the small city I live in that have them for sale. So they are not rare to any degree.

@@davidgordon8069 As far as putting someone down; My goal by commenting this is to make sure nobody just sees that video and decides they can build something structural using a technique like this. This is dangerous. Structural integrity is not to be messed with. If the creator of this video is just unaware - well, no he is. If he does know, and keeps on doing it just for the views (despite potentially endangering people) - maybe he deserve to be put down...
