Magni, in actual Norse mythology, is one of the sons of Thor and is called the god of strength in the Norse pantheon. Which is kind of interesting that in the Marvel comics version of Thor’s son that it was he that caused his father to reverse everything that he did when he went mad as king Thor. In fact I wouldn’t mind actually seen the son of Thor Magni, be in a relationship with Hulk’s daughter Lyra, if they ever decide to bring her back.

I believe he was actually supposed to be so strong he didn't need Thor's belt that even Thor needed to be able to wield his hammer if I remember correctly. It's hard to keep the actual myths, D&D pantheon mythology, Marvel Comics mythology (and it's myriad alternate universes), and DC and Independent comics mythologies straight anymore 😅

Donald Blake was condemned to a living death, bound to the void between the Nine Realms and their respective afterlives. In Norse mythology, the honored dead gain entrance to Valhalla, but those who die of natural causes or lived a life of disgrace fall to Helheim, a realm presided over by Hela, daughter of Loki and Angrboda (Yes, MCU Hela was a child of Odin, but the mythological and comic versions are not.) Those judged to be men and women of good nature are allowed to pass into Niflheim, where they are allowed to indulge themselves and socialize amongst others of comparable virtue. Donald Blake was not allowed within those realms, as he existed as a displaced spirit bound to a living vessel… just imagine being locked away in complete isolation without so much as the perception of time. Sounds like the poor guy had every right to turn on Thor and instead of understanding his plight, Thor elected to torture him in an even worse way.

He was shunted off and forgotten basically till he went mad, and then was punished by his jailers son who should be like a brother to him considering their bond, but he instead curses him for something beyond his control as what mortal mind could take that? A good man, condemned for the God's own folly and misplaced justice. Free Blake!!

I'll check this out to see where it goes, but I'm more interested in learning of whatever happened to Magni of the main 616. Back in 79 they did a story where Thor learns of a Ragnarok 2000 years ago, and that he had 2 sons, Magni and Modi. That every time after a Ragnarok, Odin would re-emerge by absorbing the survivors and restart the cycle all over again. But Magni and Modi were never absorbed, and what happened to them since is unknown. Sadly the part of the story with his sons was never further explored, which always bothered me cause Thor would go looking for them. I doubt it'll happen but I'm still hoping.

It's been 2 decades since I've read Jurgern's run, but a few things I wonder from what I can recall. Did Magni do much of anything? I remember a flash forward with him in an odd-shaped helmet on a boat, but not him fighting anyone. I felt the end of Jurgen's run was rushed for the new creative team leading to Thor Disassembled. Was that the case or did the run end as Jurgens intended?
