Since no one mentioned it, yes, the language used by the Dark Elves is called Shiväisith, and was constructed by David J. Peterson. He has also made languages like Dothraki and High Valyrian for Game of Thrones, the Fremen language in the Dune movie, several languages in Defiance, the Fire elemental language in Elemental (Pixar), amongst various others.

Loki becoming a favorite character is never a bad thing, in fact he is my overall favorite character in the MCU. Loki has been a fan favorite pretty much since his first appearance. I’d even go so far to say that Loki is more popular than Thor, but I’m not trying to start a rumble in the comments 😜 Hiddleston is absolute perfection as Loki and he really shines in this movie. I am happy you mostly enjoyed this movie, it is a top 3 favorite of the MCU movies for me. I just found your channel and am looking for to joining you on your MCU/Marvel journey! 💚🗡️💚🗡️💚

The infinty stones are the whole backdrop to all the movies you're watching. Just remember, the Reality stone(The eather) is now with the Collector. It'll be important later on. And as mentioned in the same scene, the Tesseract is on Asgard. That's 2 of the stones.

Yes Odin was rude to Jane Foster, which follows the comics. Odin never approved of that relationship- he considered it a distraction, especially given how short human lifespans are. By the way, in Norse mythology Thor and Sif were eventually married. Loki surviving after all was definitely a highlight of this movie, but we're left wondering exactly how he managed to replace Odin... And my favorite thing was probably Darcy having an intern ;)

Your reaction to Loki's apparent death was shared by audiences at the time Cristy. Loki was originally supposed to die in the film but test audiences didn't believe he was really dead, so they reshot the ending where he masquerades as Odin which you saw. Jamie Alexander, The Lady Sif, slipped on a metal staircase and dislocated her shoulder, putting her out of action for a month. Aside from a brief cameo in a future film and a couple of TV appearances (sorry, no spoilers!) this was her last real appearance in the role. 🔨😀

@@CristyReacts .. Loki got way too popular to let him die. Instead they gave him his own spin-off TV series, obviously starring Tom Hiddleston as Loki, as in the Thor movies including Thor: Ragnarok from 2017 and a very short appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder from 2022, and as you know he is also in Avengers movies, including Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Hiddleston has also made voice appearances in The Simpsons as Loki. The short film 'The Good, the Bart, and the Loki' from 2021 and 'Welcome to the Club' from 2022.

3rd! I'm glad you liked it. For some people they really do love this movie. It's not my favorite either but it did have to do a lot and set up a lot. I think the main thing that hurts this movie is the quality of everything they've made, just keeps getting better. And this movies villain was weak, not much character building or motivation, but again I think the studio used this film as a stepping stone for future movies.

When they say nine realms it actually mean the 9 galaxies in which Odin is the rulers over. For example midgard and Earth mean the same thing of course there are other planets in this Galaxy but it doesn't matter how many planets are in this galaxy Odin rules all it just the focus of the asgardians will be always on midgard.

In the MCU the 9 realms are not different galaxies, they are different planets located in other solar systems. In the comics they were different mystical dimensions but the MCU changed quite a few things regarding Asgardians and other realms/races of Norse mythology. Likewise the MCU's BiFrost is an invisible energy network connecting those planets instead of a physical rainbow bridge spanning the entire distance between them (the MCU's rainbow bridge only extends between Asgard's main city and Heimdall's observatory, the huge spinning machine that generates BiFrost portals). Asgardians have learned to access that energy network to travel between worlds, and the BiFrost energy has a multicolored appearance resembling a rainbow when they use it.

Easiest generally acceptable approximation of Mjolnir's name is me ol' near all run together. It's not quite perfect, but it's closer than most people get who have no familiarity with Norse mythology or Scandinavian histories. My familiarity is more in the area of mythology, but I'm far from an expert. The language used is real, in that it exists. It is a language created by a linguist who was commissioned to create the language. So, someone who studies languages was hired to create a language, so using that language, it would be consistent (just as if you wanted to say something in Hungarian, you wouldn't improvise it in the script and be grammatically incorrect, making people who speak Hungarian laugh at your ineptitude, you would have someone write the lines as they would be said in Hungarian, but this also means if they wanted to re-use this language later, it is developed, so if you want a line to be said in this language in, say, another movie, or maybe a TV show set in the same universe there would be a continuity.) I had never really noticed this before, but 16:40-16:49 for example, doesn't the destructive force they are using to cause the prison break, seem an awful lot like the effects for Extremis in the Iron Man film just before this in the MCU? I'm sure I'm seeing it because I arrived here directly from your reaction to that movie. It was very important when Heimdall could not see Jane, because part of the reason he is the guardian of The Rainbow Bridge, is that he can always see everything, regardless of location. So when she passed beyond his sight, Thor knew to be concerned. Stealth craft 17:40-17:45 "child's play" I think now you have seen Avengers, and you've spent a little time with Thor's friends. You might look into a TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" first season is set after the movie "The Avengers" I think you will find a small blessing there. Based on how you've handled the movies so far.

If you think Odin is a shitty dad to Loke here, try reading the norse mythology - ( keep in mind that Loke in the mythology indirectly killed the God of light and justice, known as Baldur by tricking a blind God called Hodr tp shoot an arrow of mistletoe at Baldur thus killing him ). Here is a small excempt. The Gods brought Loki to a cave and took three rocks which they bored holes. The sons of Loki, known as Vali and Nari, were brought there. Vali, in the form of a wolf, killed his brother Nari. The gods took his entrails and bound Loki to the rocks with those entrails. Skadi placed a serpent above Loki so the venom of the serpent would fall on Loki’s face. A wife of Loki, Siguna, stayed with him in the cave. There, she held a dish to get the venom out of Loki’s face. When the dish was full, she turned away to empty it. At such moment, the venom dripped on Loki’s face. The pain was so real that Loki screamed and writhed. People believed that the earth was shaken every time Loki writhed. Loki stayed in the cave until the days of Ragnarok.

Yeah Odin is harsh and yeah he has a dark past, he isn't a Saint.. But many of the things in this movie, things that he does or say, are 100% understandable from his POV His words and treatment of Loki, while harsh, is what he deserves... Look at all of the shit he did... As King, what was he supposed to do? Give Loki a slap on the wrist and stern look and let it slide?... Many people like to jump of the hate wagon for Odin, mostly with the sole purpose of releasing Loki from any responsibility for his own actions or in the hopes of making him look good; when they shouldn't... Loki's actions are his own, and he has done many, many, many, shitty things, even "evil" things that he needs to be held accountable for and shifting blame to Odin is not the way to do it. And when it comes to his apprehension towards Jane.. Apart from the later part of the movie where he might see her as responsible for the death of Frigga, which is pretty self explanatory... He isn't thrilled about the idea of Thor getting together with a "mortal" girl that's going to live only a hand full of decades... Once again, he is not only their father, but he is the King, he is the Allfather; he has to think about the stability of Asgard and all the realms, and making an outsider their queen, someone with little to no power, knowledge of the wider universe and that's going to be dead in the blink of an eye of most of their subjects is a very big "no no" for him... If Thor gets with Jane, she would be in line to be queen, with none of the qualifications for being so (unlike Lady Sif); and even if she does do a good job, even if the perfect case scenario happens and she is a "good", capable queen, that isn't going to last long... What would happen when she dies? The realm get's destabilized again; what would happen with Thor and his grief? He would probably be a mess, making him a non effective king (kind of like Odin in this movie with the lost of Frigga), and putting everybody at risk JUST IN A HAND FULL OF YEARS from the perspective of beings that live like 5 to 10k years

Thor: The Dark World isn't really that hard to follow though. Outside of Malekith (which is admittedly the weakest aspect of the film), the story is mostly straight-forward. Thor looks for Jane, Jane get infected by the Aether, the Dark Elves attack Asgard for said Aether, and Thor and Loki have to put their differences aside (along with some help from Thor's human friends) to stop Malekith. IMO, this film improves upon the first Thor in every way in terms of story, characters, action, visuals, cinematograpthy, as well as spending a lot more time in Asgard, even if it's not my favorite MCU movie, it's definitely up there as my favorite Thor movie.

@@CristyReacts you're right the original Thor comics did portray Asgardians as actual gods. However when the MCU started off, Marvel Studios was worried about possible backlash from religious conservatives. They didn't want the newborn MCU getting targeted for boycotts like the Harry Potter films were. So the MCU didn't acknowledge the existence of gods or magic, everything was explained as powerful aliens/cosmic beings and science/technology so far beyond human understanding that it became the basis for myths/legends of magic. As Thor told Jane back in the first movie "Your ancestors called it magic, but you call it science- I come from a land where they're one and the same". The MCU's Frost Giants, Asgardians, Dwarves and other races of Norse mythology were translated as aliens much longer lifepsans than humans (roughly 5000 years) although the Dark Elves apparently lived even longer and slept in suspended animation for millenia) Minor spoiler- In later phases (after the MCU was rolling and an undeniable success) Marvel Studios relaxed on that stance and introduced actual magic into the movies. They also backtracked and made Asgardians more godly, having them freely refer to themselves as gods, although they still only had 5000 year lifespans... but in Phases 1-2, the "god" title was intentionally avoided.

Odin isn't good he's a bad guy who does good things. Originally Odin had the tesseract and he use it to build the bifrost bridge. So that's why thor needed the cube in the avengers movie because Odin could still send someone off Asgard using dark magic but Thor will see only one strong enough to survive the trip also it was a one-way trip.

Ahh so they were able to repair the bridge once they regained the tesseract at the end of Avengers?

Malekith's motivation is simple. He was from a time when there were only darkness and dark elves in the universe. Since then all of this light, new places, and other races have shown up. One day Malekith decides that he liked things better in the good old days, so as far as he's concerned all of these people and all of their new stuff has got to go. He just wants darkness and dark elves in his universe. He's the ultimate xenophobe.

@@CristyReacts And kind of dumb, considering that the universe is already more than 99.9999999999% darkness anyway. A few little stars here and there bother him all that much? Just get a sleep mask or some blackout curtains.

Originally the movies were just doing some dumb things like not acknowledging asgardians as gods. They also switched Freyja to Thor actual mom instead of stepmom. They kind correct it as things move along about them being gods though.

This is the worst 'Thor' film. 'Ragnarok' makes up for it. I promise.

Many people agree this is one of the weakest MCU movies. Don't worry though when you get to the next Thor movie it will make up for pretty much everything you didn't like about this movie
