That scene with Askeladd and then the scene where Snake realises the weapons used in Thorfinn's stance will always give me goosebumps. Makoto Yukimura understands that past story telling and character development is the best way to show epic moments, not just action. Love your reactions as always!

Seeing Arnheid cry about her lost future with Gardar really chokes me up everytime. In the first half half of the season, she just seemed like a regular, bland love interest, but she has way more layers and I really appreciate Yukimura dedicating so much time to her.

We know it's hard not to resort to violence, especially to protect those you care about, but even Thorfinn's father said it: “A true warrior doesn't need a sword". Not everything can be resolved with a peaceful conversion, especially in these times that take place in the series.

You know the first time I saw this part I was insanely hype but also kind of sad at the same time. I hate that Thorfinn has to fight. It’s sad that sometimes conflict has to lead to violence. This is the only anime I’ve ever seen where I know there will be a consequence for violence and I don’t want Thorfinn and Einar to have to suffer it’s consequences. Truly, Peakland Saga.

The muscle memory Thorfinn recalls in that moment at the end sent chills to just about every VS fan out there. Despite the pacifist route he's chosen, he still retains the warrior within himself and calls upon it when needed, it's absolutely beautiful and brought a tear to my eye when I saw it. mob psycho and odd taxi are great choices, Monster is amazing but it's SUPER slow and is like 70+ episodes long, so maybe a bit too long. Breaking bad is the best anime

I also LOVE the fact that Askaladd is Thorfins inner warrior. It shows that Thorfinn really did have love for him. "He's got his arm around him" Thorfinn thought of Askaladd at a moment when he was being tested and its what made him feel strong and safe. Beautiful man. Learning how to love someone who is an enemy is a really powerful theme. True strenght man. True bravery.

I think also Askeladd is more of a fatherfigure for Thorfinn than Thors at the moment. I think he might need to redeem himself a bit more in his own eyes before his actual father shows up as his guide/conscience.

I think it was just that Thors represents the idealistic pacifism and Askeladd was more of a realist. So his realism is what was needed to push Thorfinn forward in this case

I understand where you‘re coming from with ‘defense’, but I don’t think that’s the intention here. Gardar also saw pretty much everything he did as “defending” himself and those he loved, and I don’t think we’re meant to see what he does in a particularly positive light either. It’s just so easy to justify violence by saying it’s necessary, and Thorfinn doesn’t want to live in a violent world.
