Hi Rogier, thx for all those details you share! What I´m eagerly waiting for is a video of a valve check since the intervals are rather short (compared to 40 000 km intervals on my WR250R) Especially to see what you have to rip off to get to the valve cover. Looks like a lot of work in front of the throttle body what I can see from this video.

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I did the 10k valve inspection and did not make a video of it. Getting to the valve cover is straight forward. Remove the side panels, fuel snorkel and air box. Then you can remove the valve cover. Measure the amount of valve play and if needed put in a different shim. Good chance that you drop the shim somewhere down in the valve area. Make sure you have a magnet on a stick ready to fish it out. I believe my exhaust valves had tightened and I needed to shim them both down a size. Remove old traces of gasket sealant. Clean the old gasket. Put a fresh bit of sealant around the round notches of the gasket, the ones that line up with the camshafts. Put cover back, don't over tighten. Go for a test ride. All in all not a difficult job. Fiddly yes, mainly because of the risk of dropping the shim and having to fish it out.

Thank you, I need to send my 2023 Athena ECU to my dealer as there is a new new map out to help with the low RPM abruptness of the throttle... where have you been Rogier?

Hi Rogier, your videos have been very helpful. I currently have a DRZ400E which I like a lot but it has it's limitations as you would probably know. Just wondering if you still have the PR7 and if so how many km's now and how is it going? If you could now buy another bike, what would you get?
@joacerbis

Thanks for your comment. I still own the PR7. Haven't gone anywere with it for a year except around the block due to Corona. It still only has a little over 10.000 km on the clock. I would like to have a smaller bike, an enduro. Yamaha yzf450 or a 250. I have discovered that I really enjoy technical terrain and I'm willing to go with little luggage and trailer the bike to where the fun starts. However if the Corona situation permits I'll take the PR7 to Morocco again this year. I have put a larger sprocket on the rear making it not suitable for long stints on the motorway, basically trying to turn the bike into an enduro which it isn't. So, it depends on what kind of traveling you intent to do with the bike. It is a wonderful bike. Dirtbike feel, plenty of power.

Hi Rojier, this question is not related to the ecu but I see you have Moto Master brake discs fitted front and rear. Could you let me know what the part numbers are so I can share them on the Australian PR7 Facebook group. Many thanks. Chris.

Dear Rogier, What is the maximum comfortable crusing speed on the highway with the AJP PR7 and what is the difference with luggage or without?
@joacerbis
@joacerbis 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jan, I get asked that question a lot. The bike is relatively light. This means that it is susceptible to wind conditions. The front screen is pretty good in holding off a reasonable amount of wind blast. No buffeting for me, and I'm 177cm tall. Still the wind is there and on your shoulders. You're sitting straight up, wide handlebars. Of course, wear hearing protection because it's going to be noisy. My experience after 25 years of riding is that throw away foam hearing protection is better than custom made. (Sorry, had to mention that, even you didn't ask for it) So, you're all comfy, dressed up right, not cold, proper hearing protection. Let's say there is no wind. Real GPS speed: 110kmh (68mph): All day. Not fun to sit on the autobahn at this speed of course. 120kmh (75mph): Vibrations are manageable. Wind blast gets very tiring. 130kmh (80mph): Vibrations become too much. Wind blast too much. Feeling sorry for the engine. Luggage or no luggage, I feel not much difference on the highway. Luggage may even make the bike feel a bit more planted.

Hi Rogier, Thanks for your extended explanation much appreciated. Sorry to be so nosy as I have another question that keeps me occupied. In this segment I see three options and what made you choose the AJP PR 7 instead of KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701? Thanks in advance. Cheers Jan
@joacerbis
@joacerbis 4 жыл бұрын
@@janwigger5853 I guess I didn't consider the KTM690 but only the 701. My reasoning being the 701 and the PR7 being a bit more hardcore than the 690. So I was trying to decide between the 701 and the PR7. The PR7 is much more finished straight from the factory. The 701 needs a bunch of mods, bash plate, screen, etc. PR7 has a 17liter fuel tank and I found that important. That makes the purchase price of the PR7 less. I was taken by the rally styling and that tablet. I found it fascinating. Now, the 701 makes more sense. More aftermarket parts. Better resale value. I'm not recommending either of them. Really you have to try to test ride them both.

@@JJamJ Hi. Absolutely not. I tested it and found out that it's not a bike for me. Too offroad (I'd say 80-20), too bumpy, no ABS. I couldn't imagine me using the bike. The test helped to realize that my BMW F 800 GS is great for me. But first and foremost that I need to work hard on myself to improve my riding.

@@JJamJ I think yes, if you intend to really ride 80 % offroad. And with offroad I don't mean just easy gravel roads. But rather sand, mud, rocks. And it seems to be made to be ridden hard. My skills as well as attitude don't allow me to do it. Also you can consider KTM 690 R with a rally fairing. It's better bike and has ABS.

Regelt de ecu ontsteking en fuelling?
@joacerbis
@joacerbis 4 жыл бұрын
