I saw a guy wearing a pair of these at the gun show two weekends ago. He had on sage cargo pants and a brown flannel shirt with a khaki fly fishing vest on. What looked interesting to me is he had his cargo pants bloused and riding high on the boots. As a USMC Veteran, I never saw anyone blouse a pair of cargo pants with boots like these along the rest of his outfit. It looked unique to say the least. It was strictly "outdoorsman" and not "tacticool" which stood out. I bet no one else noticed his boots and the way he was wearing them except for me. I am a boot nut and own about 30 pairs from the best names in the business myself. I knew these were Thorogoods from 20 feet away.

I've been wearing these for two weeks in sub zero weather. They're so warm and comfortable. They broke in in about two days. I'm standing on 7/12 pitch roof in a blizzard. They grip fairly well. Highly recommend. My only gripes was a wide doesn't really feel that wide. But it breaks in fast. And I wish they made it in other colors.

I know this is an old video but I've been wearing these boots for about 4 years, probably 6 months out of the year and love them. Now the outsole and midsole is separating. My only complaint is the synthetic welt cracks and makes resoling cost almost as much as a new pair of boots. But I think Thorogood discontinued them, why, why ,why. :) Do you have any recommendation's to replace this boot. Insulated, plain toe, wedge sole. welted construction.

The only problem I’ve had with Thorogood’s boots is the toe got creased on the inside of the boots it’s the unlined Moc Toe version. I tried to push it back out but it won’t stay in place. It feels like the toe has plastic under the leather instead of just a couple layers of leather even a more rubber type compound would be better than plastic.

Their good boots but I didn't think the insoles were that great. Everyones feet are different though.

I do realize this is years after this review but I'm in the market for the 6" American heritage and can't decide between the wedge sole non safety and the heel sole safety. I wanna use the boots just for getting around and stuff, so not work. Is the difference between wedge and heel massive? I don't need the safety toe some it's not for work. Are the ones with the safety toe much heavier or less flexible? I really need them to be comfy. You mentioned that the wedge soles wear away pretty quickly if you're using them for work. How long do you think they'll last for normal, non work use? Just daily stuff that is.

I'm currently wearing Thorogood 814-4203 style in a 11D and they fit perfect. I'm just wondering if you recommend I order the same size with this style and also the composite toe style 804-4210. Unfortunately I have no local retailer that sells Thorogood so Amazon is my only choice. Keep up the great reviews! Side note: if you could review these in composite toe

+Josh Dalton thanks for the grate question and Review request. I would say buy an 11.5 D just to give you a bit of room from the front. Unless your buying the empire toe boot. ( Not if this is that number I am sorry for not recognizing it.) If your toes have about 1/4" of space in the toe box on a non safety toe boot. Then I see no problem buying your size 11D. Just be prepared to go back and forth when ordering online. If you send me an email I can send you a few links with better shipping packages for the back and forth. [e-mail]

Boot Guy, how to you think these wedge soles would do in the winter. I'm not going to be going through knee deep snow, just cold, icy asphalt & concrete in the mornings mostly and climbing some metal rungs. Should i go with a lug sole? These boots look great but i can't justify buying something i won't be able to wear for 6 months...

hay bootguy I got a pair of Wolverine SPX 8 inch what size of boot laces you suggest. only had the boots for about three months and the laces are almost shot.and what kinda of laces you suggest I work in the grain industry.

I wear a 11.5 double e in normal pull on would wear the same size I just wondering never bought a lace up and I know a lot of the red wings I looked at on come in d and thorogood has my 11.5 ee been reading reviews they seem ok

Well I took this boot down to 22° below zero Fahrenheit. But, my partner said he got cold at 10°. So it's hard to judge.

get them with heel, flat sole is meant for walking on iron and is very slippery on mud.

+Larry Kuzmin yes, all American made welted boots can be resoled. In fact with the current skilled shoemaker's left. Any boot can be resoled. Have a look around KZbin? The thing that bugs me about Thorogoods and that cool looking "tobacco" tan color is it only holds and stays as long as you leave them alone. Put any mink oil, Obenauf's, boot oil or even Lexol on them and they turn a murky turd brown. This of course fades with use and time, but the original color will be forever altered and darkened from then on. No more than these boots run at discount sources, it's temping to just leave them alone and let them wear naturally. I don't think most guys will get a resole out of them anyway with that soft leather they use. The upper will be pretty worn and a resole costs almost as much as a new pair. My Thorogood moc toes got darkened considerably when I applied Obenauf's boot oil on them. These are only used for work and function was more important than appearance on this pair. I have another new pair in the box waiting collecting dust. I think I will let that pair go and keep the cool color as it came. So what, I am out $164.99 when they get wrecked. Looks better than what they turned into if you want to hang onto them and not beat this next pair.

I just cleaned them up a few days ago. Here are some before and after pics. I used saddle soap and a stiff dish-washing nylon brush on the uppers. On the white sole I used the same brush and Dawn dish soap. After they were rinsed and wiped clean and left to dry a liberal coat of Obenauf's boot oil (NOT THE LP) was used and buffed with a horsehair brush. Lots of attics, crawling around in crawlspaces, mud, dirt, rain,, snow, climbing ladders and on roofs, washing out A/Cs and EACs with a garden hose and getting your feet wet etc...etc... These are not pampered by any stretch. They seem to be holding up pretty decently given the reasonable price I paid.
