I think Darth Plagueis would've been more interesting. Plagueis literally trained Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord who caused the downfall of the Republic and the brith of the Galactic Empire and Order 66. Plagueis was also the one who created Anakin Skywalker through midi-chlorian manipulation, basically making Luke, Leia facing against their Grandfather through the Force.

I think it would have confused too many Star Wars fans, to be honest. If you hadn't watched TCW, you would have been lost. I know a lot of people that avoided the shows because they seemed too kiddy, or had tried it but gave up because the movie and/or first season were so bad. And it would have turned off / confused the movie-only fans. (Which happened with Solo... at least, those that bothered to see it.) Or the fans that knew George Lucas said he had Darth Maul cut in half in TPM because he wanted it to be clear he was dead.

As someone who writes as a side-hustle, I can confirm that "eureka" moments where you instantly know everything aren't there. There are certainly moments where you find the central point for your plan, and you build upon it slowly, but something that large wouldn't have a single moment where everything pops into your head at once.

Maybe the meaning was a bit lost. Because eurekas come in bursts, as in you have one and then it can come again after a while has past. So for a project like a movie or a book you could have more than one of these moments as you go along allowing you to adapt to different ideas that are bound to pop up when you're constantly thinking about the story, the world, characters etc. In my view that moment Lucas mentioned was the "last" eureka moment where he had put all the pieces together. Well that's my take anyway.

100% agree. I have been working on a fantasy world myself because I really enjoy worldbuilding and storytelling and a looot of things changed in the past year. Great ideas do come but not in the form of the entire history of the world and its characters but more like an interesting storyline here, a faction there etc.

Most people are okay with or even like midichlorians. It was a (admittedly) large and vocal segment of those who grew up with the OT who hate them. Those who grew up with the prequels never had a problem. I always liked midichlorians for explaining how a technologically advanced society found a scientific way to quantify someone's connection to the force, which shouldn't surprise anybody. Also midichlorians somewhat work like mitochondria in real life.

Yes, he had outlines, but those changed even before he began writing the first and subsequent drafts. And he rewrote III after shooting had begun and then did massive reshoots after showing the rough cut and Spielberg, who claims to have liked IV after having seen the rough cut, didn’t buy Anakin’s turn in III.

This actually makes sense. The direction that Lucas had with Maul was setting up a crime syndicate in the Clone Wars and kept him alive after his encounter with Palpatine. Also, there have been talks of Lucas being a little.....too obsessed with Darth Talon lol. Also, that Darth Maul game kept on changing because of Lucas' insistence to add Darth Talon together with Maul and not knowing what even was Lucas' plan for Maul' story.

I think Talon would have been in the story, but I thought her Master would be someone else involving the Whills, or Plageuis (hence he seeded that in during ROTS). I think if Lucas brought back Maul, he would explain on screen (the saga movies) how he came back, or lived, and would retcon the TCW thing. Darth Maul to me is one of these characters that got more character development in TCW other than Count Dooku.

Count Dooku and Grievous got the short end of the stick in The Clone Wars. That and the absence of Durge are my only complaints about that show. Dooku especially should have gotten more development. Sure, he was definitely a bad guy by the time we met him, but he actually had compelling motivations, some of which were actually kinda good, and they've been barely explored.

I thought that it was going to be Luke's daughter. So I guess he was going to have Jaina (Han and Leia's child) be Luke's main apprentice then. In which case, yes, Sebastian Stan for Ben Skywalker. As for Naomi Scott, she can still be cast as a Jedi student, or something. She's very likeable (unlike Ridley!). I tried to find people who looked like Anakin, Padme, Luke, Leia, etc.

You know what saddens me is that people like us with limited time and average Joe's are able to imagine something that would honour the creator's vision yet the people who were handed Lucas' actual scripts, who have ample financial resources, entire teams of people and equipment at their disposal in so many years could not piece together the sequels! It is truly saddening. I'm glad you like my casting choices! I really think they are more appropriate and likeable and talented to portray George's vision on screen. I so so wish we had his definitive vision as movies. Hopefully one day we get them, this sudden news was a welcome upbeat headline when I was feeling down. The only thing is I am not convinced that Lucas would have brought in Maul. Talon yes. But I think he seeded in Plageuis into ROTS for a reason. The only way Lucas would bring back Maul would be retconning TCW's Maul storyline. Yeah Lucas literally said it in an interview that Anakin was the chosen one, and I mean he literally does everything the prophecy said. The only thing bad about George's idea is saying Leia is the chosen one. Maul in Rebels said he was no longer a Sith so him coming back wouldn't contradict the prophecy or anything.

@Vaiser 185 Palpatine disowned him as a Sith even in the Clone Wars. Feeding off the dark side, having hatred, and seeking revenge aren't concepts exclusive to the Sith though. You can use the dark side and not be a Sith just like Ahsoka can use the light side and not be a Jedi. The Sith as far as I know is a doctrine, a way of practicing the dark side that isn't synonymous with the dark side itself. If I remember correctly, some Jedi who turned to the dark side were called dark Jedi and not Sith.

After TCW ended, Maul would've still been alive somewhere in the galaxy and not killed off, so him seizing power makes perfect sense.

Stories are rarely set in stone (or ink) until it is written down, or filmed. Even creators like Tolkien didn't have the full story figured out at first. They (usually) have a general outline and figure out the little stuff as they go. They may even discover new ideas they didn't have at the very beginning, which alters the direction of the story. As time goes on (I'm looking at you J.K. Rowling), the author may change their mind about what they want their story to mean, but it's already out there. If we didn't have deadlines, storytellers may be improving/changing their stories for the rest of their lives.

Woah. Leia as the Chosen One. Really makes sense though. The prophecies from the "Master and Apprentice" novel fits that idea too. Anakin trying to bring balance through military aggression and fear juxtaposed against Leia trying to bring balance through Diplomacy is a really great idea. Would show growth in Leia's character when we first met her angry and sassy on the Death Star. I always liked the idea of Ep 9 having a "Miracle on 34th Street" type ending where someone is fighting to establish the new republic and clear the Skywalker name and, in doing so, elevates the Skywalker's legacy to mythic status (ascend to rule Mortis and obtain true balance in the force)

If Maul was indeed to reappear, it would have to be done just right. He was cut in half (which kills people), fell into an abyss (which kills people), at the bottom of which his disected, broken body would have bled out (which kills people). Leia "only" got exposed to a minute of empty space (which, admittedly, kills people) and practically no one thought THAT was feasible. All that said, a character like Maul could be a very interesting PoV throughout an alternative Sequel Trilogy. We could learn more about his origins, how he had to reevaluate himself after his defeat, what he was up to during the reign of the Empire, and why at long last he has come forth once more. Unfortunately, there's a great risk that we'd get none of that, but instead a CGI created Half-Maul-Half-Machine lightsaber swinging maniac who speaks exactly twice during three movies and exists for 1) fan service and 2) as a vacuous foil for the new protagonist.

The Maul and Talon thing reminds me of a fan fiction I heard about several years ago: what the prequels should have been by BanditIncorperated (you can find it on KZbin). The fanfic was made (as far as I know) in 2015 (same year as TFA) andI find it interesting that they could both have come up with the same antagonists. Unless Lucas changed his story after he sold it, which is something I can see as a possibility (Star Wars is his baby after all). In any case, it proves that Lucas listens to his fans, or that some fans (like Dave Filoni) are on his same wavelength.

I think there are some cool ideas here and I would have liked this trilogy more than what Disney made. I don't really like the idea of Leia being the chosen one because Anakin is as George has said, but he is the creator and can change that, plus the prophecy isn't exactly clear and as Yoda said in ROTS "A prophecy, that misread could have been". I think Anakin as a force ghost helping to guide a new hero to bring back balance again would work much better, or him guiding Leia, Luke, and the new hero would work much better because it should be about the legacy of the Skywalker family being tested with a new threat.

"This is what Disney Said No to" Uh no? George wanted to make the sequels with Darth Maul, he claims, after the first set of prequels. Which I highly doubt as the only info we got on 'the script disney toossed in the trash' was that Lucas wanted to use a teenage duo as his main protagonists who looked like Jaina and young Han Solo. Basically the traits we see in Rey would be in two annoying Disney teens heroes. Honestly even though it didn't wrap up great I'm glad we never got that. I honestly think his idea here is inspired from a collection of EU storylines he couldn't get to work and he's just now realized with Cade Skywalker and all that no longer canon he could put Darth Talon in an earlier timeline and cash in on the people who want a sexy female Sith again, and especially because she's popular with every era of fan. Wether it be because she's a sexy rare color of Twi'lek or because she has one of the best backstories to this day and it's not 100% dependent on her surroundings.

ya know, I remember when i first saw the Episode in The Clone Wars where Palpatine fights Maul and Savage Opress (when the episode first aired on TV i mean), and I remember thinking after watching the Episode that Palpatine not killing Maul was a set up for Maul somehow being the main villain of an Episode 7, 8 and 9 (this was before the Son Of Dathomir book came out), that's probably why i had originally thought Snoke was secretly Maul after i first saw The Force Awakens in theaters (that and Maul's appearence in the Season 2 finale of Rebels), then again, i was a kid when that episode aired, so I didn't know that much honestly.

I feel like Maul's end was a fitting conclusion to his character. He was cut down by Obi-wan in episode 1, consumed by hatred for years, tried to do everything to get revenge on Obi-Wan even tracking him down 20 years later to kill him but in the end dying in the arms of his enemy hoping that Luke would avenge him and the Jedi. Darth Talon would have been cool to see maybe as the main leader with no apprentice looking to get Ben Solo onto her side.

So this is very interesting because what i am seeing here from George is a very clear story and he knew what was key to his overall tale the rest of it he was flexiable enough to work based on fans reaction. I can actually liken this to a dungeon masters tole in d and d or other role playing games...there are some who are great story tellers that chose an end point work out the key events of what needs to happen to get them there and finally just think how to land the plot hook that makes the players want to engage in the story. Thats not to say they cannot be derailed and the poor reaction to the midcholirins and posative reactions to a bad guy that was made a legend to almost darth vader with at the time 3 lines. So it does not surprise me that while the overall direction of where he envisioned the final 3 movies of his skywalker saga wanted to go the overall plot content had now changed quite a bit given how much time has passed and he has had more chance to see feedback from what worked and did not in the star wars labelled projects released under disney. It is however good to hear these thoughts from his perspective and have it offically down in writing.

You know, before season 3 of Rebels aired, I too thought Maul was the reason the Sith survived into the Sequels. At the time it made sense to me, if Maul had managed to lay low and survive up until Episode 6, then he could try and take control of part of the Empire and take on an apprentice, using Palpatine's teachings in both cases to help. So I theorized he trained Snoke and eventually Snoke turned on him like the Sith do and took Klyo as his apprentice. But then season 3 of Rebels ended that theory with his death.

I hope one day his treatments will be published. Meanwhile, it is getting really confusing and partly contradictory concerning his alleged plans for the sequels. You never really know: was it like this in his outlines that he sold to Disney? Or is he just talking about earlier drafts? Because why doesn't Lucas talk about the new characters in this book, nor the midi-chlorians (which he did elsewhere)? Here it almost reads as if there are no new younger protagonists at all, but Luke and Leia have remained the main characters. He also says that his sequels only played a few years after ROTJ and that Luke and Leia are still busy building up the Jedi and the Republic respectively - is that really believable? Because his trilogy would have had to play at least 30 years later, just like Disney's trilogy, and Luke and Leia wouldn't have been still building the Jedi or the Republic. In addition, Darth Maul was never mentioned anywhere, but Darth Talon was. In the Art of TFA and TLJ books the Lucas treatment is partly mentioned, but there is no mention of Maul, only of Talon. Therefore, I suppose that Lucas speaks of several versions here: What he describes regarding Luke and Leia can only correspond to an earlier draft of the 80s or at most have served as a premise for the new trilogy. But I strongly doubt that this would have represented the current plot. I can't imagine Darth Maul being in the Treatment either, which he sold to Disney. I suspect that Darth Maul was in the script at an earlier stage, probably when Maul's story was written in TCW. Later, however, he was dropped out and Darth Talon was the only Sith to take the helm (she would then have seduced the son of Han and Leia). Regarding the aspect with Leia as the chosen one, I suspect that the formulation seems misleading. Probably Lucas means a Chosen One for this trilogy, not Chosen One in relation to the prophecy and the destruction of the Sith. Lucas wouldn't simply take away Anakin's status as Chosen One and hand over Leia. He has talked about this so often, it would simply be a too drastic retcon.

In the sequel trilogy, I would have wanted to see how Luke ran his Jedi order along with Leia. I feel that that certain characters would need reworking, like Finn. To make him interesting, I think he would have been part of an experiment to artificially create force sensitive storm troopers but the experiment went underground after the empire fell. Over time, he actually obtains the darksaber from someone, likely Moff Gideon, which I think would be fitting seeing how a traitor of the empire would obtain a weapon from an imperial remnant. Plus we'd actually SEE the darksaber in film, That would have set him a part from the others. Poe, I feel should have been force sensitive and was apart of Luke's order but left, not out of hatred, but because the jedi way of life was not for him, and he became a bounty hunter who uses the force, and works with his codebreaker friend. Also assisted by Rose, the mechanic. Rey should have been Anakin reincarnated which would have explained a LOT. Why she is so strong, why she has a connection to the skywalkers, why Anakin's saber called out to her and why Anakin's ghost was absent. Also explains why she'd call herself a skywalker in the end, AND the prophecy would actually be fulfilled if she destroyed Palpatine, seeing how it would be technically fulfilled if the reincarnation of the chosen one did it. Anakin's saber would fit her and Poe would use an orange lightsaber pistol. Kylo would be the main villain at first, allying with Snoke and his esoteric group. Snoke, I feel should have had his own order and not be some test tube creature made by Palpatine. They are trying to overthrow the republic. Not set up an empire but a dark sided theocracy ruled by a council, with the knights of ren ruling, but Kylo becomes Ben again. Snoke also has his own plans and agenda. Ben used a green saber, that was gifted by his uncle but he cracked it in a fit of rage, and had to make a crossguard. He bled it, but when he becomes Ben, he heals his crossguard and it turns into a white unstable crossguard saber, signifying that the pain has healed, but it still has left cracks or scars, much like how Ben went through his life. Luke still uses his green one and Leia uses a cyan one. The sequels would not focus on some civil war, but rather force orders coming together to fight for a common cause to preserve the new republic. We would actually SEE other orders like the Order of Revan, Imperial Knights and Guardians of the Breath, and they ALL have their own beliefs and agenda. Many of them are being divided and it's up to the new Jedi order to unite the warring factions and finally destroy the last of the knights of Ren, Snoke and his esoteric cult and finally Palpatine and the Sith Eternal. I could actually see the 4 main Jedi, Rey, Finn, Ben and Poe going to Exegol, after clearing the Sith fleet with the help and sacrifice from Admiral Ackbar. No star killer base, Don't mention planet destroys until the final movie where Palpatine did devise ways to make planet killing technology more effective when he destroys planets like Dantooine and Hoth. Admiral Ackbar sacrifices himself in a similar but different maneuver like Holdo's maneuver. The 4 main Jedi fight hoards of Sith troopers and marauders and finally face the emperor himself. People say it'd be cheap for Palpatine to come back, but actually I find it fitting. Think about it. Palpatine AND Anakin would return to face each other but in different ways, where Palpatine transfers his soul into a modified clone body, but Anakin, fearing the return of the Sith, gives up his immortality and reincarnates in a new body. This would REALLY feel like it's the skywalker saga. Prequels were about Anakin's life as a Jedi, than the originals showed his life as a Sith and the sequels would show him reincarnated in a new body: Rey, living a new life and a new adventure. Plus Rey would actually have to train to get strong. I'd have her fall in love with Finn as I think Reylo was kind of forced. What do you think? I would have liked to see SOMETHING like this in the films

I've always thought the alternative to having sold Lucasfilm was to pass the torch onto Katey Lucas (who was already writing for Clone Wars and wrote the Maul comeback) and Dave Filoni. He could've taken a backseat as creative consultant, technical advisor, and executive producer without having sold his life's work to The Empire only to see it reduced to almost nothing (had it not been for Filoni and Favrreau's Clone Wars and Mandalorian).

The main thing we need is George's Episodes 7 to 9 to get us to a "happy ending" point for the Skywalker family. Then fast forward maybe 100 years and do the Vong trilogy which could for example lead to a Jedi Civil War as they debate the merits of Jedi philosophy during the stresses of such a war for existence.

George Lucas seems to have had an outline for his sequels, he was simply fleshing out the details as he went along, I'm sure much would have changed right through filming. This was true of the original trilogy and prequels as well. If anyone doubts this I always recommend reading the preface to the original SW novel, tell me the groundwork for the prequels isn't there.😉

He killed Maul off in The Phantom Menace because Maul was just a tool to get to the next piece of the puzzle Anakin story taking away his father figure. And so on and so on it's been talked about many times Dave filoni said it best on that Mandalorian gallery show I believe on the second episode about to do the face and its importance in The Saga. But Lucas killed off Darth Maul not realizing he was going to become this ginormous icon and that's why you wanted to bring them back in the Clone Wars. Had he known Darth Maul would have been what have become such an iconic character you probably would have made it through all the prequels

Writing is an art and just like how a painter never thinks their painting is every "really" finished, so too do writers never really believe their story is "really" finished. I have a family friend who met George a long time ago and she said he didn't really regard himself as an amazing writer. He had fun writing the Star Wars Saga, but then it grew and became something more than he could ever know. He wanted people to go off and write these stories and evolve Star Wars as time goes by, but when he failed to find a decent director to do the Prequels he was more or less forced to write it all himself. He KNEW he wasn't the best man for the job but he couldn't get anyone else. He preferred other people who were more creative and better writers do to that job. Over time he developed a love for editing more than writing, as we know from all the edits released over the years.

I like the sound of Lucas' sequels for the most part, and the choice of villains would've been great. Just one thing: Darth Talon would need a redesign. Her current "clothing" is just someone's spank bank fantasy, and makes it difficult to take the character as anything but fan service. Other than that, anything Lucas would've come up with would've been better than what we got, even if it was as poorly executed as the prequels. At least it would've been STAR WARS.

One of the biggest missed opportunities IMO is moving on from the Jedi and becoming something else. That sounds more creative then "I am all the Jedi." The Rise of Skywalker just tried way too hard.

I hadn’t thought about it in those terms, but your comments towards the end about an original story..... that is spot on. Initially I obviously thought 7 was too close to four. On the good side, JJ recaptured the ‘vibe’ of SW. It felt like the OT, in terms of how the film was shot, how the effects were done, the lightsaber fights somewhere between 46 and 13, etc. But then to blow it by almost copying 4. It HAD TO be a desert planet. It HAD TO involve a Death Star like superweapon. That mask HAD TO refer to Vader. C’mon. JJ was supposed to be better than that. I read where they didn’t want Snoke dying in 9 cuz that would be too much like six. But like you said, the Galaxy is essentially left in the same place. But I don’t really fault JJ too much for 9, because he had to undo and/or work around the shit sandwich Ryan Johnson left on his table. What the fucking Fuxk?!?! Yeah, he tries some new shit, that was way too much off the mark that’s been established. I thought the light speed ramming was cool, but then it seriously creates major plot holes 1-6. And it’s sad cuz he had some awesome ideas. This is all KK’s fault. First, do your due diligence and learn that RJ likes his audiences to leave a films : 50% loving it, 50% hating it. That doesn’t fucking work in an established universe. But even worse........ I remember reading that when SW planned a 9 book series with 3 authors, the Lucas film creative folk sat down with the three writers and they hammered out a general framework for that house. Theyd agree on the initial premise/conflict, the general tone and scope of the end of the series, and agreed upon several major points that needed to happen in between(such things as who could and couldn’t die were biggies). Then within that framework they were allowed to go buck wild. It didn’t mean everything was approved; but they could try it. That was for novels. THEY DIDN’T DO THAT FOR A MASSIVELY IMPORTANT TRILOGY?! KK is an idiot. JJ should also be slapped for that. WTF. I truly can’t believe such a simple plan like that didn’t take place. I’ll go see every SW flick ever made. But they have such a long way to go before I ever anticipate something from them will be cool AF again on all levels.

He would run his crime syndicates while the Republic fell and during the time of the Empire he would keep building and then after Empire falls he'll take over like Thrawn, who should also should have been one of the main bad guys in the sequels.
