Many owners of 4X4 trucks put larger tires on their trucks as their first modification. It looks cool, but accomplishes little, other than excessive wear, as you stated. My feeling is that auto makers spend millions of dollars designing these trucks for their specific intended use, and after market parts producers do not. I have a 2019 Power Wagon, and literally everyone thinks the stock tires are too small, and they change them immediately. I can honestly say, living in Montana, I have rarely met an off road obstacle that I couldn’t conquer with the stock set up.The few times I have do not justify the expense of larger tires, suspension upgrades, and the increased cost of maintenance.

Great info to all the ones that have no clue about bearings and suspension. 👍🏻👍🏻

That is why buying a factory built 4x4, with 35’s or larger is the best deal. If you are going to mod with bigger tires, you must do your homework in regard to components and such.

Cars too. This would explain why I got wheel bearing issues after buying bigger tirerack rims with lower profile tires. I though it was just a pothole. The low profiles also reduced the cushioning.

I choose to do the wheel bearings because I love the look of my savana and the ride got softer with the big tires… it’s not for everyone
@BruddaChimpDaBossАй бұрын
More likely it is the negative wheel offset putting the additional load on the bearing not the oversized tires on its own.

My 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 came with stock 20in tires, keeping stock will bearings last longer

Depends what you switch to and what the vehicle is. My 23 tacoma had 245/75r16 tires. Upgraded to 255/85r16 for more ground clearance. If I switched to 35s then it would start becoming an issue requiring a lift, control arm upgrade, and shims to correct the the drive shaft and cv angles. 33s don't change the performance much but 35s will. If the wheel bearing goes bad oh well, i'll buy a new one. The extra ground clearance is worth it offroad. C rated 6 ply tires weigh a lot more but it can actually stand up to the offroad conditions. Its all tradeoffs.

Is switching from factory-installed highway tires to say, heavier All-Terrain or Rugged- Terrain tires (same size) gonna affect the wheel bearings? Thanks in advance.

Don't forget fuel mileage drop those tires cost more than you think

I do lots of off-roading in the Arizona desert. Both my truck and jeep have 2” lift kits but run stock or slightly larger than stock tire size. My suspension components last way longer than trucks with 35s or better, and I go 99% of the places they go.

I do oversize my car only by 20 mm wide (cars) and leave the series the same so 1/3 to 1/2 in taller. Never had a problem, trucks though go way over as in this video.

Wait, you mean installing larger tires , wheels , suspension lifts will cost you more money and cause pre mature failure?? Obviously this is true. What’s not obvious to the average consumer is that aftermarket parts that you sell will fail even faster. So stick to genuine and watch how long they last.

wow what a huge wheel bearing, just looking at it looks like it cost $$$$, im really glad that my wheel bearings are just fist size and cost $

You know what is the problem with custom modification in general? Consider this; -car manufacturing companies spend millions (at least) designing a car -an individual will spend X amount of dollars on one aspect of the vehicle Does it make sense? Not yet? -car manufacturing company do an RnD on a car which takes years before it gets to blueprint. Some cars have been around for more than a decade and is literally an evolution from the first gen. Toyota does this a lot thus making their products “bullet proof”. -an individual who wants to modify his/her car spends x amount of time choosing what wheels to install In conclusion: Stock set up is balanced build. Every part serves a purpose. Personal modification, often times, only considers a portion not the entirety. But even though this is the hard reality, there will always be THAT person who thinks he/she knows better.

If you hit a lot of holes and washboard, bigger tires will soften the ride, especially airing down a wee bit.

Nah bad maintenance schedules has nothing to do with soze of wheels when theyre moderately sized like those. 35s arent bad on these trucks. They go bad when they go bad, and OEM isnt known for being super reliable after 100k let alone 200k miles.

The problem is less of a big tire problem and more of a cheap quality bearing problem
@derekwoolley9729Ай бұрын
Don't try wider size tyreson a Tata vehicle. They are not made to handle the extra pressure and bearing will fail. Speaking of experience on behalf of a friend who had a bad experience.
