But Michael has this thing where he always kept to the script when it came to his performances. He wanted to recreate the music video on stage as best has he could. Neither of them two have the charisma, stage presence or sex appeal Britney exudes so effortlessly for this type of performance. MJ wasn't looking for an artist to out-sing him or make it into some vocal duo display, something Whitney and Mariah did. That wasn't the type of duo wanted. Also Britney was the MJ of her generation during that time. It made complete sense. She's pop royalty just as he is pop royalty and was the only one delivering iconic hit, video, performance and look after another, consistently during that time. This was for a TV special. Michael actually performed this song twice, once with Britney and once without, so his choreo was already planned without her. She was a last minute addition, per his request. So they just basically recreated the video, of him chasing around his love interest, because they didn't have the time to choreograph an actual number. You know, if they had, Britney would have had some tight choreo. This was when she was at her PEAK and really feeling her oats. Michael would have respectfully done a routine that complimented Britney's dancing, had they been given the time to do so. But this is still an iconic moment in time, even if it isn't a showstopping performance.

Kinda disappointing that she never even danced. Her strength is her dancing, shes never gonna do well on a vocal battle against Michael who was just killing it here.
