Textures, 3D, wood slats can look good. But, I imagine they're a nightmare to clean.

Ew...slat walls are a fantastic place for spiders to hide!!! 😳 Whoever came up with this idea and is now selling it, needs to spend a few months CLEANING them a year after installation.

Corny, passé solutions to fix a boring wall. Unless you're either a pro or expert at DIY, you're not going to be happy with these solutions. Hang some artwork. Walls seldom need to be the focal point of a room. If you've got the money, support your local artists. Short of funds? Estate sales, then resale shops, and finally thrift stores. Put in the leg work, and you will be amply rewarded.

@thepaintpeople Everyone has something. It's all in varying degrees.

Agree agree agree! I preach this constantly to people who want to put word art from Home Goods or mirrors on their walls -- or nothing at all. Also I always suggest local college end-of-term art major shows; the students would love to make a sale and need the money. And restaurants sometimes feature the work of local artists and would be happy to broker a sale as well.

Real antique art is going for next to nothing these days. The collectors only want modern art. Old landscapes that used to be worth thousands are going for hundreds.

@Heatherw-xt4xs If you're spending 1000s of dollars on a single painting, you're not decorating your home. You're an art collector who was savvy enough to have foreseen the crash in the art market.

Both wallpaper and real color actually look so much better when they're done on the whole room instead of one wall. Accent walls SHOULD be over. Just commit, put up some art on top of it, which is what walls need, and enjoy. Texture? Wash? Thanks but I already lived thru the '80's.

Pretty sure your opinion isn’t the deciding factor on what looks good and what doesn’t. What’s even cooler is that a lot of people would disagree with you and love accent walls.

@miggs80 Dev's opinion may not be the popular choice, but that doesn't make him wrong. I've studied decor for 60 years, and I can tell that the average homeowner/lady in charge, seldom has the ability to discern what will actually work in her space. Anyone can pick up a paint brush, anyone can nail up a board. Knowing when it will enhance your decor takes more than just wanting to give it a try.

@ thanks true. I think people do a feature wall bc they’re afraid of a whole room of whatever, but the truth is that when it’s a whole room, it fades into the background of the space, whereas as a feature it’s always screaming “look at me” and is jarring. People forget that color and pattern also coexist with furniture, lamps, art, books etc. I’ve been looking at design for about 40 years and the feature wall thing has never made sense to me.

@Dev_KG The examples in the video, for the most part, are in giant rooms with totally coordinated neutral decor. The bare walls, plain rugs, and nondescript furniture, all color matched in neutral tones, can handle one giant feature wall. How few people are in that demographic? That's not your average home. Obviously, most of those rooms were professionally decorated.
