This is really good stuff and sparking wonderful philosophical debates between me and my friends (several of them have degrees in philosophy, and one friend in particular ADORED your video on thje ethics of superpowers).

Isn't the case that even if superman is good, we end up depending on him to do certain things? I mean, not only coercitive intervention limit our freedom, i might be afraid to loose some benefit.

Yeah maybe the giant is what is defending dragons from attack the village. Theb you say you don't wanna hang out with him and he says he wants to leave town to nicer people. Then boom dragons come and lay waste to the village.

Exactly so! I’m not sure what’s worse being a slave who resents their condition or one who loves it.

I can live with slaying my own dragons

But... This is also assuming a mechanism to stop the giant is possible or exists. It seems like this ends off implying that we're obligated to create these mechanisms.

True Dan, but only if we value freedom (as republicans understand it). If we are utilitarians we might say living under a benevolent despotism or epistocracy is perfectly fine if it produces the greatest happiness for the greatest number. Personally, I'm far too protective of my personal autonomy to trust in the powerful.

@@drblunt the powerful have done nothing except prove their ineptitude and untrustworthiness. Leadership, as it's been called for the last few thousand years, is hubris, a mischaracterization, and repugnant.
