Jim I was born in 1952 and grew up on the streets eventually I became a gang leader. Because of pain suffering and agony I hit the very bottom of all. I was finally ready to listen to God's voice now that I had No options and God had all my attention. I am now a ordained minister in Anchorage Alaska speaking to churches and traveling to our villages because of the drug and alcohol issues. Jim keep up the search for God's will in your life and the hunger to hear God's voice for your direction in everyday life.

23 years ago, I was in a dark place. I had always been an angry man and at 40 I had lost everything. It was everybody else's fault. I continued believing that for about 6 months. One day, I met an older lady and told her my troubles. She made no comment and thought about it a while and then she said "You're being tested." I didn't know what she meant by that. I had always worked and paid my way. I thought I was a strong man. I believed I had always done the right thing. She continued "Anyone can do easy. You could spend your whole life and never have to face reality. It's when things go wrong that you find out who you really are. Whether you're truly strong or not." I never met her again but before parting I asked what I should do. "Pray and learn how to forgive." I was in a bad way and I'm not especially religious but I decided to go to church and pray for God's help. What followed I can only describe as an epithany. A moment of realisation that was unimaginably painful to go through. I woke one morning and sat thinking about my life and the words this lady had left me with. Oddly, I began to think about myself but not the version of myself that I found palatable. I saw the real version of what I had become. A big strong man that took no shit from anyone and barked a little at other people. A bit of a bully. I had become like my father and it was the very thing I had not wanted to be. I saw myself as I truly was without the protection of ego. A veil drawn aside revealing an ugly truth. I wept for hours to the point of dribbling. I couldn't control it and it felt like an exorcism. I was alone. By late afternoon it was over. I was exhausted and for the first time, probably in my life, I felt at peace. I wasn't angry. This made me able to think about forgiveness. What it meant to forgive. I'd always thought forgiving people was a weakness and it's much better to get back at people in some way. Make them pay. My father thought the same. I never knew any other way. God had shown me, through my chance meeting, there was a second option. I didn't have to spend my life in conflict. I began to see that I could forgive people and, by doing so, set myself free. The best way to control a conflict can be to let it go and I'd never been able to do that. I finally understood the saying 'To forgive is divine' and I felt it deeply. Wrongs had been done to me so I could wrap myself in those chains or I could let it go and feel them fall away. I spent that evening, apart from wondering what the hell just happened to me, thinking about the things in my life that had made me unhappy and forgiving those involved. Just as importantly, I started the process of forgiving myself for all the bitterness I had held for so many years and all the stupid things I had done. I began to understand myself and how I had arrived here. I swear that all of this happened in a single day and I know it was God at work. The next morning, a Sunday, I awoke and felt a lightness that I can't describe. I knew I had changed but I didn't know if it would last. I thought it would last because I had never felt so at peace with myself or, as Jim Carey said, in grace. I got myself ready and, leaving the house, bumped into the son of my elderly neighbours. He came to me and apologised for parking his car for a few minutes outside my house. Everybody knew not to park outside my house or there'd be trouble. I gazed at him and I felt shame. I told him he could park his car wherever he wanted. "Park on my drive if I'm not here." He stared at me and seemed confused. I watched him drive away and felt both happy and sad. Happy because I felt the joy of kindness and sad because, in his eyes, I could see the person I had been. I went to church to thank God (and to guarantee his continued support) The remainder of the day, I made a list of all those I had hurt. Over the coming days and weeks, I contacted them and asked for their forgiveness. I can't tell you how happy they were to hear from me and that I was asking for their forgiveness. Some couldn't remember what I had done but appreciated the sentiment. Everybody forgave me except one. She told me to f@@k off. I hope she has forgiven me by now. Over the next 6 months, I kept the house I thought I would lose. More importantly, I won custody of our 6 year old daughter. What followed was the happiest years of my life and they continue to this day. My daughter is a Masters graduate and has a successful career. She is married and has 3 sons under 3 1/2 years old. She owns her house and as happy as anyone could be. She has a wonderful husband. She calls me 10 times a day. I visit once a week. I am very close to my daughter and her family. Recently, my eldest grandson looked at me and said "Grandad, you're my best friend."

Wonderful and amazing. Jim Carrey has always had faith budding in him, proven by the fact that long before he was famous, he wrote himself a check for a million dollars for acting services rendered. Not that that should be the ultimate goal, but it's not surprising he would be drawn to Christ. I appreciate his openness and humility and a sense of not having to have it all together to be worthy of love and grace...which he then readily extends to others. This is a man speaking from his heart about the reality of suffering, a situation which visits every human being that has incarnated to this world. To know that we are one with the divine Christos is to become a redeemed redeemer. Prayer and meditation are a means to integrate with the divine and to "wake up" to the Kingdom.
